in NYC. Photo Credit: Photo by Sue Coflin/Max Photos
From 1993 to 1997, Sonia Satra starred as Lucy Cooper on the CBS daytime drama Guiding Light. Lucy eventually left Springfield behind after marrying Alan-Michael Spaulding (played by Rick Hearst, then Michael Dietz). After leaving Guiding Light, Satra guest-starred on Baywatch and played Barbara Graham on ABC's One Life to Live, and went on to appear in a number of movies and TV series including Hyacinth, Soldier of Fortune, Pride & Loyalty, The Drum Beats Twice, Redum and The Men Who Built America.

Today, the multi-talented Satra has added certified life coach, fitness instructor, and award-winning motivational speaker (she was president of the National Speakers Association – NYC!) to her list of accomplishments. She also recently co-hosted a new talk show, Healthy Lifestyle with Eraldo on WMCN-TV. She had fun getting some healthy cooking tips while interviewing Dina Deleasa-Gonsar, known as "The Dish it Girl."

We Love Soaps spoke with Satra about her journey, including the lessons learned from her time on soaps.

"Where I am today is absolutely a combination of everything that I've done, all sort of built on each other," she says. "In terms of acting, that's where I started to learn the whole mind-body thing. And the discipline of that life is completely applicable to having your own business. From a mindset perspective, and a mind-body perspective, and a work ethic perspective, it's all been really helpful."

NEWS: Jordan Clarke, Sonia Satra, John Stamos, Dusty Rhodes, Jerry Penacoli, Danielle Harold, 'Game of Thrones' Finale

Guiding Light alum Jordan Clarke enjoys being a handyman
Jordan Clarke lived a working actor’s dream, going from primetime bit player to beloved, award-winning star of Guiding Light, playing Billy Lewis for many years. He was also a part-time handyman. In his latest feature, BuzzFeed's David Kushner recounts his relationship with Clarke as a handyman over the past few decades.

"Fixing things had a tangibility that, after all these years reading lines, he craved. He savored the satisfaction of making a new cabinet and seeing it being used in someone’s home. There were no lights shining down, no directors giving him orders, no egotistical co-stars. There was just him, a hammer, and a problem to solve. 'As wonderful as acting is,' he told me, 'this is more satisfying.'"

Where Are They Now: Former Guiding Light actress Sonia Satra
Sonia Satra is perhaps best known for her life as a soap opera star, having appeared in both Guiding Light (Lucy) and One Life to Live (Barbara). However, she is now known for her role in the world of fitness.

Where Are They Now: 'Guiding Light' Actress Carey Cromelin

Paul Williams and Caroline Cromelin. Photo Credit Yana Paskova for The New York Times
Carey Cromelin, who played Lewis Oil secretary Wanda Hyatt on and off Guiding Light during the show's finale 24 years, was featured in a New York Times story on Monday. Cromelin and her husband, Paul Williams, and their 11-year old twins, live in an Upper East Side brownstone. Their apartment has a windowed air shaft that their landlord has controversially sealed, which eventually led to the family receiving an eviction notice.

Five years ago, the building’s owner covered the top of the shafts to stop leaks that had begun to make the walls crumble.

Losing light and not-quite-fresh air in the heart of one’s home would be difficult enough for Ms. Cromelin and her downstairs neighbor Jillian Murray. Then they refused to let workers in to place drywall over their already darkened windows. The landlord responded with eviction notices in 2013.

In a twist of fickle justice, two housing court judges ruling on almost identical living situations reached opposite decisions. Ms. Cromelin gets to keep her windows for now, but Ms. Murray might lose hers, or even her apartment.

Three other eviction cases have been brought against Cromelin and illiams, including a nonresidency case in 2011. It claimed the family actually lived at a farmhouse near Danbury, Conn., grounds for terminating their stabilized lease. Each time, the family was allowed to stay.

Complicating the decisions, the Buildings Department could soon revoke its approval for the work because a city board ruled in November that closing the shafts “cut off existing (albeit minimal) light and air to the room used as a bedroom” and violated the building code.

Ms. Cromelin said she and her family were hopeful they would again see the light of day inside their apartment soon.

To celebrate, they may form a band, with Mr. Williams on guitar, Ms. Cromelin on piano, George on saxophone and Virginia on trombone, plus Ms. Murray, who plays the trumpet.

“We’ve all been sued so many times,” Ms. Cromelin said, “we’re thinking of calling ourselves the Respondents.”

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Shelly Burch (ex-Delilah, ONE LIFE TO LIVE)

Nelson & Shelly
I met Shelly Burch back in my early soap days, my first day working on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. My buddy Louan Gideon (who would go on to play Liza Sentell on SEARCH FOR TOMORROW a few years later) and I were playing shoppers in a mall scene where Shelly's character, Delilah, was being arrested for shoplifting. As a WONDER WOMAN fan, I thought Shelly was the closest thing I'd seen to the iconic Amazonian Princess super heroine. Tall, glamorous, vivacious and with a wild mane of hair teased into a glorious frenzy of 1980s-volume.

I later learned that, in addition to being one of Llanview's most popular vixens for several years, she was also a Broadway baby...garnering rave reviews for her work in shows like "ANNIE," "STOP THE WORLD-I WANT TO GET OFF" and "NINE." NY Times critic Frank Rich even gushed in his praise of her: "a Modigliani goddess with a strong voice and almost unearthly presence."

One of the wonderful things about living in NYC, and particularly being part of the showbiz scene, is that sooner or later you reconnect with friends & colleagues from your past; No Facebook or Twitter needed! That's just what happened recently when I attended a benefit evening featuring Tony Award winner Martin Charnin, lyricist, writer, and theatre director best known as director and lyricist of the musical "ANNIE" (Brace yourself for the upcoming Will Smith all-star movie remake and subsequent theatrical revivals/sequels).

NEWS ROUNDUP: Gloria Loring Opens Up About Sexual Abuse Plus Her Relationship With Don Diamont. Plus, Nadia Bjorlin, Peter Galman, James Pickens Jr.

Gloria Loring's New Book Explores 'Coincidence' That Shaped Her Life, Including Relationship With Don Diamont
"Don [Diamont, currently playing Bill Spencer on B&B] and I were together for three years," says DAYS alum Loring. "He came from a family that was very respectful and schooled in the old ways. His mother and father were just the finest people, and they raised their children to be that way. I didn’t respect myself very much. I used to call myself names, and when my marriage ended, I felt guilty for breaking up the marriage to Alan [Thicke]. I felt all the powerlessness of my childhood come up."

"I was on DAYS at that point and earning a six-figure income. I was supposedly a celebrity and all of that, and I supposedly had all this talent, but I felt like a beaten-up child. So, all my powerlessness came up and Don came in and treated me with such kindness and respect, and paid attention to everything I was thinking or doing. He was so attentive. I had not been paying attention to what I need. So he taught me how to pay attention. Don is a really nice man, and family is number one with him. He has really great qualities. I have been very blessed to have him and others in my life. When we parted, because he knew he had to go off and have a family of his own, because family was so important to him after the passing of his own father, I said, “What is the most important thing he gave me?” I realized it was the respect and the attentiveness. I knew I had to start doing that for myself. It’s taken me a long time. I could still do better, but Don was an important person in that process."
