Victoria Rowell, Shemar Moore & Mishael Morgan Returning to 'Young and the Restless' for Kristoff St. John Tribute

Three former cast members will return to The Young and the Restless to help say goodbye to longtime star Kristoff St. John, who died on February 4 at the age of 52.

Shemar Moore (Malcolm Winters), Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters) and Mishael Morgan (Hilary Curtis Winters) will participate in several episodes of the CBS daytime drama to pay final respects to St. John, who played Neil Winters since 1991. According to EW, Moore will reprise his role as Neil’s brother for two episodes airing April 25-26, while Rowell and Morgan will appear as themselves in a special tribute episode on April 29. The latter will include former and current cast members sharing memories of St. John and will also feature clips of St. John's most memorable moments.

Moore made his last appearance on Y&R as Neil's brother in September 2014. Rowell's Drucilla was a fan favorite from 1990-2007. Morgan played Hilary Curtis from 2013-18.

The Y&R plot line will address St. John’s passing beginning April 23. Genoa City learns of the unexpected death of Neil, so family and friends gather to remember their beloved father, colleague, brother, and friend. The story will continue through the remainder of the week.

“We all miss Kristoff immensely and are understandably still in a bit of shock,” says executive producer Anthony Morina to EW. “Our hope is that this storyline and tribute episode airing in April will honor the legendary character Kristoff helped create, and provide our audience with the opportunity to say a meaningful goodbye to Neil Winters.”

Victoria Rowell & Doug Davidson Remember Kristoff St. John on Steve Harvey Show

Longtime The Young and the Restless fan favorites Victoria Rowell (Drucilla) and Doug Davidson (Paul) joined talk-show host Steve Harvey on Tuesday to discuss the legacy of Kristoff St. John (Neil) and the hole his death left in the soap opera, and the world.

"His departing this earth comes to me in waves," Rowell told Harvey. "I have moments of reprieve and then I'm in disbelief because it seems impossible that such a big spirit would be gone."

She also addressed his fans directly, telling them, "Kristoff absolutely loved you," and noted how "Kristoff was the kind of person that if he was running through the airport, people would follow him right into the bathroom because they just thought they had it like that with him ... It was just beautiful to watch him interface with his fans."

Davidson said his most enduring memory of his friend was that "he was just so full of love ... In any circumstance, if you were having trouble dealing with anything, he was always very supportive and would be there for you."

Victoria Rowell Lays it Down in 'The Rich & The Ruthless'

The Rich & The Ruthless, the much-anticipated dramedy created by and starring The Young and the Restless fan favorite Victoria Rowell, premiered on Robert L. Johnson's Urban Movie Channel (UMC) last week. The second episode was released on Saturday, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The Rich & The Ruthless is loosely based on Rowell's popular novels "Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva" and "The Young and the Ruthless: Back in The Bubbles". Written by Rowell and the brilliantly funny Jamey Giddens, the plot centers on Augustus Barringer (Being Mary Jane's Richard Brooks), creator of daytime's only black-owned soap opera, as he battles ruthless network executives, scheming underlings, temperamental soap actors, and budget cuts to keep his show in production. Rowell (who also serves as executive producer and director) stars as Augustus's fresh-from-rehab wife Kitty, a former soap queen determined to reclaim her spotlight.

Robert Richard plays Barringer bad boy, Max, a soap opera writer. Chrystale Wilson (The Players Club) is nefarious suds diva Alison Fairchild Roberts, who thinks because she's married to one of the producers she's the Queen Bee. Dawnn Lewis (A Different World) is Beth, the long-suffering wardrobe mistress, and .

The Young and the Restless alum Brenda Epperson appears as network executive Edith Norman. Former Bold and the Beautiful star Mykel Shannon Jenkins is soap hunk Derrick Taylor, while B&B's recently returned Kimberlin Brown is set to appear as the mysterious Dr. Maya Cooper.

There are plenty of laugh out loud moments, including a laundry room scene featuring Rowell in the second episode. Alesha Renee (MTV's Girl Code) is fabulous as plucky soap heroine Calysta Jeffries, while the supporting cast steals a number of scenes.

Rowell also brings the drama, and delivers my favorite line so far during Kitty's argument wtih August.

"My fans will never forget me, because I laid it down!" Kitty snarled at the end of the first episode.

'The Rich and the Ruthless' Coming Soon to Urban Movie Channel!

Victoria Rowell's long-awaited series, The Rich and the Ruthless, will premiere later this month on Urban Movie Channel. Written with Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens, R&R is a character driven story centered on two kindred spirits— soap ingénue Calysta Jeffries (Aleesha Renee) and legendary producer Augustus Barringer (Richard Brooks). The moment he auditioned her years earlier for the role of Ruby Stargazer, Augustus knew he had found his latest muse in the raw and talented Calysta.

While the driving arc is the complicated bond between Calysta and Augustus, R&R is "a multigenerational, dramedy ensemble piece. The audience will grow to love, hate and, in some cases, love to hate many among the motley crew of vicious soap divas, chiseled hunks, and treacherous network television executives who make up this world."

The cast includes Victoria Rowell as Kitty Barringer, Mykel Shannon Jenkins as Derrick Taylor, Chrysale Wilson as Alison Fairchild Roberts, Robert Ri'chard as Max Barringer, Michael Colyar as Willie Turner, Elizabeth Carlisle as Emmy Abernathy, Valenzia Algarin as Veronica Barringer, Hunter Bodine as Randall Roberts, Brenda Epperson as Edith Norman and Shadoe Stevens as Phillip McQueen. Kimberlin Brown also appears as Dr. Maya Cooper, while Dawnn Lewis plays a bitter costume designed named Beth.

Check out the fun series trailer below, along with a sneak peek from the first episode.

Victoria Rowell Ends Lawsuit Against Sony Pictures, Corday Productions

Victoria Rowell has ended her lawsuit after reaching a settlement.
Victoria Rowell, who played Drucilla Barber Winters on The Young and the Restless for 14 years, is no longer continuing her lawsuit against Sony Pictures and Days of our Lives producer Corday Productions in court for failing to hire her. On Monday, a judge dismissed the case after being informed of a settlement.

Two years ago, Rowell filed claims alleging that her outspoken advocacy for African-Americans both in front of and behind the camera had cost her a chance to be cast again on the soap. Her complaint discussed communications with CBS CEO Leslie Moonves and Sony's former chief Michael Lynton and presented statistics about racial discrimination in the soap industry.

Buchanan, charged with felony DUI in a head-on collision just outside Buellton in May, pleaded not guilty in Santa Maria Superior Court on October 14.

Buchanan (Vicky on Another World, Sarah on One Life to Live, et al) appeared with defense attorney Meryl Chambers, who entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of her client. Deputy District Attorney Tiffany Dix is prosecuting the case.

Before he was a tech titan worth $70 billion, Bezos said he spent his childhood summers on a ranch with his grandfather watching the soap opera Days of our Lives.

Eric Braeden offers The Young and the Restless brass input on his character, Victor Newman
“To be frank with you, I think that over the last few years, the scales tipped toward [Victor] being a bad guy,” Braeden tells Soap Opera Digest. “And, I have asked them to kindly not pull back on it but to remember that Victor always justifies his actions because something preceded it.”

Victoria Rowell speaks out about her discrimination lawsuit against CBS and Sony
“Here in Hollywood, I have long championed diversity,” says Rowell, who played Drucilla Barber Winters for years on The Young and the Restless. “Not only for African-Americans, but for all minorities, for gender bias, et cetera.”

The upcoming trial is set to take place on April 17, 2017, and Rowell is confident that she’ll be pleased with the outcome.

“I believe that I will prevail,” she says.

Justin Hartley on Ellen.
This Is Us star Justin Hartley Strips Out of His Shirt for a Good Cause
In partnership with Ulta, Ellen DeGeneres asked the recent Young and the Restless alum up to get hit with water balloons during Thursday's episode of her daytime talk show, all in the name of breast cancer research.

The objective was simple—Hartley sat tight in a chair while DeGeneres and her other guest, Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams, took turns pulling sticks from a Jenga-styled contraption. As they pulled out the sticks, the balloons began dropping on the Hollywood hunk's head.

General Hospital awkwardly works in mention of Marvel Comics movie Doctor Strange
Product placement has been popularized in the entertainment industry these days to boost promotion. This often happens between shows or films under the same mother company to help endorse a certain product. As for the unexpected Doctor Strange mention on General Hospital recently, viewers slammed the crossover for being totally irrelevant and obvious.

In a conversation of Ned Ashton (Wally Kurth) and Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero) where the former expressed his sweet talk to the latter saying "I missed you," Olivia blurted out, "Well, Dr. Strange is about to hit theaters pretty soon." The conversation went on with Ned saying, "You may be surprised to hear this, but if I can't see that movie with you, I won't see it." The scene ended with Olivia kissing Ned.

GH airs on ABC, which is owned by Disney, which owns Marvel, which is distributing Doctor Strange.

Set in Atlanta, Star revolves around three talented young singers (Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady) who navigate the cutthroat music business on their road to success. McCrary will play Otis Leecan, a nasty piece of work who’s obsessed with his foster daughter Simone (O’Grady). He will do everything in his power to drag her back from Atlanta after she runs away. He’s clever, manipulative and dangerous. But he’s met his match in Simone and her sister Star (Demorest).

Bryan Cranston reflects on his soap opera start on Loving
"There was something that happened when I turned 25, and I got a job in New York on that soap opera [Loving]. It wasn’t necessarily the soap opera that did it for me, it was the timing. I felt like I crossed a threshold. I felt like I belonged, that I wasn’t fooling anybody and deserved to be there. Even though that’s the Joe Stuart period where [the Loving producer] fired me unceremoniously. But even then, as you saw, I was licking my wounds, and I went to Central Park and saw the marathon and felt, I’m going to do this next year. And I did."

Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon get dramatic for Tonight Show soap opera sketch
Called In the Dust of Night, Hamm and Fallon played two friends and business partners who always find themselves in dramatic situations – usually ones that involve a cheating scandal with Fallon’s girlfriend. Nutri-Brex prices surge in China following appearance on soap opera Ode to Joy
Weet-Bix, which is known as Nutri-Brex in China and U.K., is a cereal in the form of a biscuit. The cereal, which is highly popular in Australia and New Zealand, has been on the shelves in China for eight years.

It was only with its appearance on the popular Chinese soap opera Ode to Joy earlier this year, however, that millions more discovered the brand, spurring demand that emptied local supermarket shelves.

"We were doing okay then but then along came this opportunity and we just saw this huge spike in sales," Mark Roper, international business manager at Sanitarium Health & Wellbeing, which produces Weet-Bix, told CNBC's Street Signs on Wednesday.

He Stars in a Spanish-Language Soap. Why Is He Driving for Uber?
Pablo Azar, the green-eyed Mexican telenovela star, stepped out of a limousine and walked down the red carpet at an awards show here last year amid the usual celebrity mayhem. Cameras flashed. Fans shouted. Azar, 34, smiled broadly and walked inside.

But after the awards show, Azar did something his army of admirers would never have imagined: He changed out of his suit, climbed behind the wheel of his car and started his shift as an Uber driver, a job he relies on when he’s between acting gigs to pay his bills.

Azar's credits include Reina de corazones and Marido En Alquiler.

Netflix breaks up with Mexico’s Televisa in the most soap-opera way possible
The beginning of a recent Netflix Latin America ad explained to viewers that the streaming content company has just parted ways with Mexico’s main television station, Televisa. The video showed a preppy-looking young man with slicked-back hair, buttoned-up shirt and a high-pitched voice. He looks devastated. A young woman walks into the room.

— What is it, my love? Why the long face?

— Netflix took off my favorites series...

Netflix is making fun of what was some of its own most-watched content. The break-up means that Netflix no longer offers the content that Televisa was supplying, mostly soap operas. And it has chosen to tell viewers about it in the funniest way possible. The message is clear: “We are eliminating the soaps, but leaving you other much more interesting series.”

'The Young and the Restless' Alum Victoria Rowell Visits 'Oprah: Where Are They Now?' on October 22

Victoria Rowell
Currently airing its eighth season on OWN, Oprah: Where Are They Now? has featured a number of soap opera stars over the years. Up next is former The Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell on Saturday, October 22nd.

The episode also spotlights singer Aaron Carter, who was a pop star by age 15; and actor Jim J. Bullock (Too Close For Comfort).

Rowell played Drucilla Barber Winters on Y&R from 1990 to 2007, when she left the series. She filed a lawsuit in February 2015, claiming that CBS, Sony Pictures and other media companies refused to rehire her after she advocated for greater diversity among those who worked on the daytime drama. The case has not yet been settled.

In the clip below, Rowell opens up about her admiration for all Misty Copeland has done on and off the stage.

Victoria Rowell Lawsuit Versus 'The Young and the Restless' Moves Ahead

Victoria Rowell
The ongoing lawsuit Victoria Rowell is pursuing against CBS and Sony, which she claims has prevented her from resuming her role on CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, has taken another step forward in the legal system.

The actress’s original complaint was stalled in November, 2015, but after an amended version was filed, a judge has ruled that the lawsuit can proceed.

In the latest version, Rowell charges that when she expressed interest in a role on DAYS, also owned by Sony, her name was omitted from the audition list.

Rowell played Drucilla from 1990 to 2000, then returned in 2002. She left on her own accord in 2007 but claims her desire to come back has been intentionally blocked, which she alleges is in response for advocating for more diversity in soaps.

Former 'The Young and the Restless' Star Victoria Rowell Files Amended Complaint Against Sony, CBS

Victoria Rowell
Last month, we report a judge had dismissed a lawsuit filed by former The Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell against Sony Pictures Television and CBS. The judge did, however, allow a future filing under certain conditions, and now Rowell's attorney have filed an amended complaint in an effort to prove the actress was systematically discriminated against during her time on the the soap.

"On my behalf, my counsel filed an amended complaint to strengthen and clarify my claims of retaliation and discrimination against Sony, CBS and other defendant,” Rowell revealed in a statement. "We intend to vigorously prosecute these claims."

The actress left Y&R in 2007 after 17 years playing Drucilla Winters.

Below, watch Rowell's press conference from earlier this year when she announced the lawsuit.

Judge Dismisses Victoria Rowell Lawsuit Against Sony Pictures Television and CBS

Victoria Rowell
On Tuesday, California District Judge John A. Kronstadt dismissed a lawsuit filed by former The Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell against Sony Pictures Television and CBS. Y&R's production company and the network that airs it won their bid to dismiss the case alleging she was systematically discriminated against during her time on the soap.

The judge dismissed six causes of action against Sony with leave to amend.

“Plaintiff’s first and second causes of action for failure to rehire on Y&R are dismissed, with leave to amend, if Plaintiff can do so in good faith and in conformance with the analysis in this Order,” the judge told Rowell.

Rowell filed the lawsuit in February alleging that the producers of Y&R refused to rehire her for that show or The Bold and the Beautiful. The actress left Y&R in 2007 after 17 years playing Drucilla Winters, claiming she had suffered years of racial discrimination, harassment and resistance from CBS executives to increase diversity on the daytime soap.

CBS hit back in a statement saying the suit had “no merit and that they were going to “vigorously defend” the case. They moved to dismiss Rowell’s lawsuit contending, among other things, that her demands violate the First Amendment.

The judge rejected CBS and Sony's First Amendment and anti-SLAPP moves against her case, and it's possible Rowell could file again if she can come up with additional evidence to prove her claims.

'The Young and the Restless' Cast Member Speaks Out About Victoria Rowell, Anonymously

Victoria Rowell
Radar Online recently spoke with a "leading cast member" from The Young and the Restless about former star Victoria Rowell, who sued the show's producer Sony and the CBS network earlier this year, claiming racism kept them from hiring her back to play Drucilla Winters again. The cast member asked not to be named because of concerns they could be dragged into Rowell's lawsuit drama.

The cast member said, “This isn’t a set that has racism as part of the fabric of what makes up the cast and crew. It’s a very diverse cast, and the fact is that Victoria was just difficult to work with. She is tremendously talented, but like a lot of people in this business, there is a huge ego there. At times, Victoria did act like a diva. She would always count her lines and want to see other cast members’ scripts, and could be seen comparing on screen time."

"It’s truly a shame that Victoria is no longer a part of the show because she was wildly popular with the fans, however," the source said. "Scenes with her on-screen and off-screen nemesis Michelle Stafford were legendary! There was absolutely no love lost between those two.”

Would you like to see Rowell return to Y&R as Drucilla? Do you think it's still possible at this point?

CBS, Sony Say Lawsuit by Former ‘Young and the Restless’ Star Victoria Rowell Is 'Patently Absurd'

Victoria Rowell
CBS and Sony Pictures Television have filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit by former The Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters), who claims that she wasn't re-hired in retaliation for her “public and private complaints regarding the lack of diversity in front of and behind the camera on the show.” She further claims that she also attempted to join Y&R’s sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful, but was denied.

In the new legal papers, filed in U.S. district court in California on Wednesday, the two companies not only re-assert their earlier contention that casting decisions are protected by the First Amendment — they say that Rowell never actually applied or auditioned for a role on Y&R after her 2007 departure from the soap opera.
