'General Hospital' Nurses Ball Will Air May 24-26

Lynn Herring stars as Lucy Coe on General Hospital.
General Hospital's annual Nurses Ball sponsored by Aveeno returns Tuesday, May 24 on ABC. Founded in 1994 by Port Charles resident Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), the Nurses Ball is one of fictional Port Charles’ most glamorous charity events dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness and research. Stunning red carpet fashion, breathtaking musical performances and plenty of intrigue and drama define this exciting programming event.

“We are pleased to bring back the Nurses Ball this year and delighted that Aveeno will continue as our corporate sponsor,” said Vicki Dummer, head of Current Series Programming. “The Nurses Ball brings awareness to AIDS research while giving our immensely talented cast a chance to showcase their vocal talents.”

“This will be GH's 12th Nurses Ball and each year our wonderful viewers have come to expect plenty of music, dance, glamour and of course an abundance of drama,” said Frank Valentini, executive producer, General Hospital. “There’s a lot of exciting performances and appearances in the works. You won’t want to miss it!”

In addition to gorgeous gowns and elegant tuxedos, viewers can also expect to see some familiar faces from a morning news program and other entertainment news shows, all making cameo appearances on the Ball’s red carpet. As always, the Nurses Ball (running May 24-26) will be the backdrop for several dramatic events taking place in Port Charles including a popular resident whose life hangs in the balance, a surprising arrest, a new couple and much more.

General Hospital will celebrate its 53rd anniversary on April 1, 2016. It is both the longest running American soap opera currently in production and the longest running scripted television drama currently in production.

DEVILS: We Knew Frons; Alternative is Dummer

When it comes to the future of ABC's scripted dramas, what's bigger news than the departure of Brian Frons? The promotion of Vicki Dummer, the woman who was honored as one of 2010's top five most powerful people in reality TV by The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

One of the criteria was "Greenlight power. Can the person get a show on the air?" Apparently, she's got the power. Unfortunately, for every new show, there's one that was cancelled. Can we infer that Dummer is equally well-known for "making room" for her unscripted, alternative, "reality" shows?

From THR:
Dummer and Saade didn't have any freshman breakouts this season; it just seemed that way. "Dancing With the Stars" and "The Bachelor" hit series highs, and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," "Wife Swap" and "Wipeout" have held up, making up for slight disappointments like "Shark Tank" and "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution." "We're constantly putting on fresh paint and tweaking the engines," Saade says. (In the case of "Stars," that meant wearing less clothing and bringing on a new co-host, Brooke Burke.) The duo credit their Midwest roots for their sense of what clicks with reality audiences. "Vicki and I both grew up in Ohio," Saade says. "That gives us the perspective of America."
