'Guiding Light' Star Tina Sloan to Perform 'Changing Shoes' at the Delaware Children's Theatre on April 18

Tina Sloan
Soap star Tina Sloan, best known for her long-running role on Guiding Light as Lillian Raines, has teamed up with Emmy Award winner Donna Swajeski, for an upcoming performance of her hit one-woman show, "Changing Shoes." The show will benefit the historic Delaware Children's Theatre, which was founded by Marie Swajeski and is now in its 42nd season.

The performance will take place on April 18 at 8 p.m. at the Victorian Delaware Children's Theatre building, which is a local landmark. The red carpet event will include with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. prior to the performance and a separate Town Hall question and answer session with Sloan on Sunday, April 19.

Sloan and Swajeski worked together for years on Guiding Light, where Swajeski was a writer for the show. They are thrilled to collaborate on this exciting production to raise money for much needed repairs and equipment for the Delaware Children's Theatre. The theatre seeks to enrich children's cultural experiences, help young talent to find their way to the stage and continue a tradition of affordable, high quality theatre to Wilmington and
surrounding communities.

“Changing Shoes” is a play about change. It’s about finding the courage to transform yourself, to learn how to twinkle again after your lights have been dimmed. This play is for anyone who has ever stood in front of the mirror and asked, “Can I stay in the game?” The answer is yes – you just have to change your shoes!

Sloan wrote a related book, "Changing Shoes: Getting Older–NOT OLD—with Style, Humor and Grace," published September 2010 by Gotham Books/Penguin Group in hardcover.

Spanning more than 40 years of her life, “Changing Shoes” begins when Sloan has a chance encounter with an old pair of shoes while dressing for the Daytime Emmy Awards. The shoes launch her on a journey through the past, from sexy starlet to leading lady to daytime matriarch, ultimately forcing her to confront her question: “What do I have to do to remain vital?” As one of the characters in the play tells her, “Always wear your own shoes, otherwise your feet won’t know where to take you.”

Tickets for the event are $150 per person and include the red carpet cocktail hour, show and Town Hall session the next day (or $120 for the show only). Purchase tickets online at dechildrenstheatre.org or by calling the box office at (302) 655-1014. To match the theme of Sloan's show, guests are encouraged to wear their most sensational shoes or even decorate their own, and show them off at the exciting VIP red carpet event.
