'Dark Shadows: Reincarnation' Receives CW Pilot Script Order

The CW has given a pilot script order to “Dark Shadows: Reincarnation,” a one-hour gothic horror drama based on the original Dark Shadows soap opera by Dan Curtis.

The reimagined show will be a modern-day continuation of the strange, terrifying, and sexy saga of the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine — a mysterious, influential, publicity-shy group hiding a ghastly secret: For the past 400 years, they’ve lived under a curse that bedevils their blueblood with every imaginable supernatural creature and horror.

Warner Bros. Television is the studio, and Mark B. Perry will write and executive produce. Michael Helfant, Bradley Gallo, Tracy Curtis and Cathy Curtis will also executive produce, with Tracy Mercer for Amasia Entertainment.

Reincarnation is a the third TV iteration of Dark Shadows — the original series aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. Curtis was also behind a 1991 remake of the horror series which was canceled after one season.

The original series starred Jonathan Frid as the vampire Barnabas Collins, Grayson Hall as Dr. Julia Hoffman, Joan Bennett as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and Alexandra Isles as Victoria Winters. Johnny Depp starred as Barnabas Collins in 2012 a film remake of Dark Shadows, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer as his wife Elizabeth and Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Hoffman.

'Riverdale' Honoring Luke Perry in Season 4 Premiere, with Shannen Doherty to Guest Star

Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced at Sunday's Comic-Con 2019 panel that the season four premiere will feature a special tribute to Luke Perry. Perry's longtime friend and former costar Shannen Doherty will guest star in a special role in the episode, which will air Wednesday, October 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Entitled "Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam," the season premiere will reflect Luke Perry's enduring legacy and the indelible imprint his character, Fred Andrews, had on Riverdale.

The casting of Doherty continues her long association with Perry, which started in 1990 on Beverly Hills, 90210, and continued for nearly 30 years. Perry and Aguirre-Sacasa had long planned for Doherty to appear on Riverdale. Her presence on the series "is something that Luke wanted to happen since season one," said Aguirre-Sacasa. "They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said 'yes.' It's very impactful."

It was also announced at the show's Comic-Con panel that Kerr Smith (The Fosters, Life Unexpected) will play Riverdale High's new principal, Mr. Honey, in a recurring role. Smith will first appear in the second episode of season four, entitled "Chapter Fifty-Nine: Fast Times at Riverdale High." Aguirre-Sacasa describes Smith's character as "a bit of a hard-ass who takes a harder line with the students this year, especially with the seniors."

Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Marisol Nichols, Madelaine Petsch, Mark Consuelos, Casey Cott, Charles Melton, Vanessa Morgan, Skeet Ulrich, with Madchen Amick.

Kelly Ripa Joins 'Riverdale' as Hiram's Mistress

All My Children alum Kelly Ripa is the latest family member in the Consuelos family to join the cast of Riverdale.

On Tuesday, the Live with Kelly and Ryan host revealed to her followers that she would be starring alongside her husband Mark Consuelos on the CW drama, playing his character Hiram Lodge's mistress.

"It's a family affair," she wrote on Instagram, alongside a dimly-lit photo of herself where she sits crossed-legged in the big leather armchair and holds a whip in her hands.

"Hiram's mistress. 23 years of auditioning for a role I was born to play," she joked. "Coming soon to the @thecwriverdale"

Ripa's character, Mrs. Mulwray, is said to be described as "Confident and tough… she’s a beautiful, icy, femme fatale who gets caught up in a conspiracy that’s much bigger than she initially realized," Entertainment Tonight reported.

Mark Consuelos joined the CW’s take on the Archie comics in season 2 as mobster Hiram, the scheming father of Veronica Lodge.

This past August, it was announced that the couple's eldest child would play a younger version of his dad’s character in the third season of Riverdale, which premiered on October 10.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Michael Consuelos would appear in a flashback episode which stars KJ Apa and Lili Reinhart who would take on the roles of their on-screen parents, too.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Maddison Brown Joins 'Dynasty' as Kirby Anders

Australian actress Maddison Brown is joining the cast of Dynasty in Season 2 as a series regular, playing the role of Kirby Anders.

The daughter of Carrington estate manager Joseph Anders, Kirby technically arrived on the scene in the final moments of the CW drama's first season finale, though viewers can now put a face to that foreboding voice.

According to the network, "Kirby grew up in the staff’s living quarters with her father … and sides more with the downstairs occupants than the upstairs. She has a fraught history with the Carringtons, specifically a tempestuous relationship with Fallon that was the reason for Kirby’s exile from the Manor years ago. And while she returns to Atlanta to make amends with her father, she will certainly continue wreaking havoc on the Carringtons."

Brown's casting comes shortly after The CW confirmed that Nathalie Kelley will not return as Cristal in Season 2, and it will be revealed that Kelley's Cristal was an imposter. The "real" Cristal will be played by new series regular Ana-Brenda Contreras. In addition, Nicollette Sheridan (Alexis Carrington) has been promoted to series regular.

Dynasty kicks off its second season on Friday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. ET.

Michael Consuelos Will Play Young Hiram on Upcoming 'Riverdale' Flashback Episode

Michael Consuelos, the son of All My Children alums Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa, has been cast to play the high-school version of his dad in an upcoming flashback episode of Riverdale.

Entitled "The Midnight Club," the hour will be subversive take on the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club, revealed showrunner Roberto Aguire-Saccasa last week during the Television Critics Association 2018 summer press tour in Beverly Hills.

"We are going to learn about a really, really dark secret in Riverdale that the parents have been keeping since they were in high school," he said.

The show's younger cast will be playing their on-screen parents in the episode, but some questions remained as to whom would fill in for Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) and Hal Cooper, as neither of them have sons on the canvas..

Teen Hiram is the first acting gig for Michael Consuelos, currently a junior at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Meanwhile, Mark Consuelos took home the award for Choice TV Villain at last night's Teen Choice Awards.

The new season of Riverdale premieres Wednesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Ana Brenda Contreras Joining 'Dynasty' as the "Real" Cristal

In the first season finale of Dynasty on The CW in May, Cristal's fate was left up in the air with the character shot and left inside a burning building. It looks like that mystery has been solved, at least in terms of Nathalie Kelley's run as the character.

After playing the role of Cristal Flores — the new wife of Blake Carrington — in the first season, Kelley announced in June that she wouldn't be returning to the show.

The network has now confirmed that telenovela star Ana Brenda Contreras will take over the role in the drama's upcoming second season. Furthermore, Contreras is said to be playing the "real" Cristal, though it's unclear what that means exactly.

Asked for the reason for the switch, CW president Mark Pedowitz said, "it's a wild soap, these are things you do on a soap."

Dynasty returns to The CW for season 2 on Friday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. ET.

'Dynasty' Picked Up for Full Season on The CW

A modern re-imagining of the iconic primetime soap, centering on the powerful Carrington family as they defend their throne against the Colbys, new rivals and threats, and even each other. Dynasty is from CBS Television Studios in association with Fake Empire, with executive producers Josh Schwartz ("Gossip Girl"), Stephanie Savage, Sallie Patrick, Esther and Richard Shapiro (the creators of the original Dynasty) and Brad Silberling.

'Dynasty' Reboot Debuts Opening Sequence (Video)

The new title song and opening for The CW's Dynasty, which was unveiled before this week's episode by Vulture, is titled "Guilt Is for Insecure People." Because the song wasn't ready for premiere week, showrunner Sallie Patrick decided to wait for the third "1980s-centric" episode to introduce it. Emmy nominee Paul Leonard-Morgan composed the shorter and modern update of Bill Conti’s original song and conducted an orchestra at Capitol Records in Hollywood to record it. The original song was nearly three minutes long; Patrick says she was happy the CW gave her 15 seconds, since many shows don’t even have title songs these days.

“The original is so iconic and we wanted to pay tribute to it in some way,” Patrick said. “I love that anthemic quality of what Bill Conti did with that theme. It was so romantic. Paul found a way to adapt that trumpet and that piece he captured from original score and give it such swagger and a new context. Which generally is the theme of our reboot: giving it more attitude and swagger and energy than the original had at that point in time.”

'Dynasty' Sneak Peek: Matthew's Funeral

After earning modest premiere ratings, The CW's reboot of Dynasty returns tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT with the opportunity to gain some momentum.

In "Spit It Out," when it's discovered that Matthew's "accidental" death may have involved foul play, the spotlight falls on the Carringtons themselves. The family must swallow their own suspicions of each other and close rank to defend the clan.

Meanwhile, Cristal (Nathalie Kelley) struggles with what it means to be a Carrington, while Fallon (Elizabeth Gilles) begrudgingly helps cover up Cristal's affair to protect the family name. Despite their efforts, everything comes to an emotional head at Matthew's funeral.

Meanwhile, the gang becomes increasingly concerned for Archie's (KJ Apa) well being after noticing a string of unusual behavior from him. Elsewhere, Betty and Veronica (Camila Mendes) approach Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Josie (Ashleigh Murray) for their help saving Pop's, while Jughead's (Cole Sprouse) attempt to find FP (Skeet Ulrich) a new lawyer may have some serious repercussions.

Ratings: 'Riverdale' Returns Strong, While 'Dynasty' Has Modest Debut

The CW drama Riverdale returned strong on Wednesday night for its Season 2 premiere, doubling the 18-49 audience from its first finale. The overall viewer growth was even larger, with millennials really flocking to the Wednesday episode.

Unfortunately, new companion series Dynasty didn't fare as well, debuting to pretty modest numbers.

The CW ranked sixth among broadcast networks in the ratings with a 0.6/2 and fifth in viewers with 1.8 million. Riverdale at 8 returned with a 0.8/3 and 2.3 million viewers. At 9, Dynasty debuted to a 0.4/1 and 1.3 million viewers.

When Blake chooses Cristal over his own daughter, Fallon sidles up to Blake's biggest rival, Jeff Colby (Sam Adegoke), to seek her revenge.

Meanwhile, when Cristal's nephew Sammy Jo (Rafael de la Fuente) comes to town, her carefully concealed history could bring her future crashing down - and who knows who else she might take down with her.

'Riverdale' Returns Tonight on The CW, Mark Consuelos Joins the Cast as Hiram Lodge

I recently binge-watched the first season of The CW drama Riverdale, and loved it. The show kicks off its second season tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

In "Chapter Fourteen: A Kiss Before Dying," as Fred's (Luke Perry) life hangs in the balance following the shooting at Pop's diner, Archie (KJ Apa) struggles with the emotional aftermath of what he witnessed.

Meanwhile, as Veronica (Camila Mendes) steps out of her comfort zone to support Archie, she learns that her father Hiram (All My Children alum Mark Consuelos) has arrived to Riverdale earlier than expected. Elsewhere, at Pop's diner, Pop Tate (guest star Alvin Sanders) recounts the chilling details of the shooting, which leaves Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) questioning the gunman's true motives.

Lastly, after running into Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) at the hospital, Betty and Kevin (Casey Cott) are surprised to learn about the fire at Thornhill.

'Young and the Restless' Alum Hartley Sawyer Joins 'The Flash' as The Elongated Man

If you were hoping to see Ralph Dibny on The CW drama The Flash, it turns out that isn't such a stretch! Former The Young and the Restless actor Hartley Sawyer will be stepping into the recurring role of Dibny, better known as the Elongated Man, next season on the hit #DCTV series.

Described as one of the Flash's most iconic allies, Ralph Dibny - a.k.a. The Elongated Man - is a fast-talking private investigator with investigative skills that rival those of Batman. Upon discovering he has the power to stretch his body to any shape or form, Dibny uses his new abilities to help Team Flash solve one of Central City's greatest mysteries.

In the comics, Dibny developed as a private eye after he struck out on his own, but it's fitting that he's making his live action debut on The Flash. The character first debuted in 1960's The Flash #112, where he became a supporting character in the comic before later appearing in Detective Comics and eventually joining the big league as a member of the JLA. He also played a key role (along with his wife, Sue Dibny) in 2004's impactful Identity Crisis.

The Elongated Man's abilities are all in his name - he can alter and contort the shape of his body to make it longer, larger, flatter, or just about any other shape imaginable. Combine that with his brilliant detective skills and he's likely to become a powerful new ally to the Scarlet Speedster.

Sawyer played Kyle Abbott (Jack's son) on The Young and the Restless, and you may have seen him on the CW Seed's Saving the Human Race or Anna Akana's Miss 2059.
