100-year-old Days of our Lives fan meets cast members
Ann Young didn't know what to expect when 12 News sat her in front of a laptop and dialed a number on Skype. The people who answered were people she had only seen through her television set-they were members of her favorite show, Days of our Lives. Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) was joined briefly by her co-star Kristian Alfonso (Hope Brady) to wish Ann a very happy 100th birthday. After Kristian returned to work, Ann talked with Deidre for almost 20 minutes. They talked about the show, about Ann's love for the characters and the entertainment. Deidre asked Ann what her secret to long life is.

"Oh, surround yourself with young people, and lie about your age," Ann said.

Soap-opera green card marriages (and how they turned out)
We’ve all seen our share of “business arrangement” daytime-drama green-card marriages that turned into something else … both good and bad. The most famous example is probably General Hospital's Robert and Holly.

Katherine Heigl on Grey's Anatomy: "I can't umagine the show without McDreamy"
Heigl also addressed rumors that she could potentially return to Grey's for season 12, shooting down any speculation that there was some semblance of truth.

"There is not, I'm sorry," Heigl said when ET asked if there was any truth to the matter.

The Young and the Restless star Joshua Morrow selling his $6M home in Pacific Palisades
Morrow's home is just as impressive as anything the fictional Newmans might own. Listed for sale at just under $6 million, the six-bedroom home in Pacific Palisades, CA, features an impeccable interior design. On the first floor, the formal dining room comfortably holds a table for 12 under a candle chandelier. A fireplace provides warmth, and a bay window adds natural light. Why elaborate, explanatory opening sequences are making a comeback on television
Strangely, in an era when title credits are shrinking into nothingness, backstory-explicating openers are making a comeback. This year, the Netflix comedies The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Grace and Frankie and the CW’s supernatural crime drama iZombie have all featured longish, plot-summarizing opening sequences. These programs tell very 21st-century stories—of an indomitable woman’s cheerful struggle to move past a traumatic experience, the knock-on effects of two seventysomething men’s announcement that they’re in love and want to get married, and a comic-book-inspired tale of a physician who solves murder mysteries by eating the victims’ brains—but they all begin each episode with credits that are both intensely modern and totally retro.

A Downton Abbey musical could be in the works
Downton Abbey composer John Lunn, said in a radio interview that he’s working on a live performance about Lord Grantham and the gang. “There’s talk of [creator] Julian Fellowes and I and some of the cast doing a live tour the way Dr. Who did; 70% of it will be music from the show,” he said. “There might be some Elgar, there might be some jazz of the periods. Some of the actors will likely recite. We’ll have a screen. We may have the music live to several scenes. Julian may be the host.”

Hulu to launch Showtime premium package for subscribers
Hulu will offer Showtime to subscribers for $8.99 per month — 18% less than the $10.99 the cabler’s OTT service will cost through device partners — in addition to $7.99-per-month Hulu subscription.

Another World and Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon joins Syfy alien drama Hunters
Hunters chronicles the disappearance of a decorated Philadelphia cop’s (Nathan Phillips) wife, which leads him to a secret government unit assembled to hunt a group of ruthless terrorists — shadowy figures that may or may not be from this world. McMahon, will play McCarthy, an unhinged junkie and Hunter cell leader with a predilection for house music and violence. McMahon also stars in Syfy’s upcoming miniseries Childhood’s End, which premieres in December.

Taraji P. Henson covers W, recalls almost passing on Empire role: "I was like, 'this is stupid!'"
"I was like, 'this is stupid. Hip-hop—dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.' But then I started to think, Cookie is going to piss so many people off! She hits her son with a broom; she talks back."

The controversy over the confederate flag has reached Hazzard County
Warner Bros.’ consumer licensing division — which for decades has licensed images of the The Dukes of Hazzard's iconic General Lee car for use on everything from T-shirts and model cars to lunch boxes and kids’ underwear — has opted to stop sanctioning the manufacturing of any products featuring the stars and bars.

Shayne Ward addresses Coronation Street 'crisis' rumors

Created by the Wachowskis along with Babylon 5’s J. Michael Straczynski, Sense8 is a gargantuan feat of both creativity and capitalism: Its narrative spans eight cities and its production budget permitted travel to all of them.

Mexican soap operas build cultural bridge with China
Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa once said:" Culture has done for Latin America what politics and economics have failed to achieve: integration."

The cultural bridge that has connected the two regions via the small screen has been in place since at least the 1980s, following the production of The Rich Also Cry (Los ricos tambien lloran), a Mexican soap opera that was an enormous hit in China.

The Tony Awards Broadcast: Broadway’s Chance to Woo America
The annual Tony Awards broadcast is, of course, about honoring the best of a theatrical season. But there is more than one way to win the night: For producers, the real battle is over wooing ticket-buyers, and the broadcast’s musical numbers are seen as the single most important way to do that.
