1967: On Another World, Liz (Audra Lindley) was happy to hear that Bill (Joseph Gallison) suspected Madge of Danny's murder.
1967: Australian Broadcasting Corporation soap Bellbird premiered. It remained on the air until December 1977.
1968: On Dark Shadows, Julia (Grayson Hall) protected Tom Jennings (Don Briscoe) from a gun-toting Barnabas (Jonathan Frid). After Tom vanished, Barnabas went to the window to look for him. When he turned around Julia had escaped.

1945: President Harry S. Truman announced that Japan had surrendered to the Allies (World War II). Thousands thronged into the streets throughout the United States to celebrate V-J Day. The official ratification of the surrender didn’t take place until September 2, in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri.
1945: On Pepper Young's Family, Harry, Betty, Pepper (Mason Adams) and Mrs. Green discussed Harry and Betty's upcoming marriage. Since the kids didn't want to wait, they went off once they received Pepper and Mrs. Green's permission.
1945: On Ma Perkins, Mathilda Pendleton (Beverly Younger) dropped by Ma's (Virginia Payne) and wanted to know all about Jeff and Stella Carlon (Marilou Neumayer). Gary Curtis (Rye Pillsbury) confronted Stella, wanting to know what had been troubling her recently.

1966: Donald Briscoe assumed the role of Tony Merritt in Days of our Lives. A message appeared on the screen to explain the recast: "The part of Tony Merritt will be played by DONALD BRISCOE."
1980: Another World returned to 60 minutes daily, after more than a year of 90-minute episodes, to make room for Texas. Russ (David Bailey) and Tracy began their honeymoon, and Jamie (Richard Bekins) had dinner with Mac and Rachel.

1933: The Romance of Helen Trent premiered regionally in Chicago. The show began airing on the CBS Radio network that October and remained on the air until June 24, 1960. During its 27-year run, three actresses played Helen--Virginia Clark and Betty Ruth Smith in Chicago, and later Julie Stevens in New York. The Romance of Helen Trent had a following so intense that at the height of its popularity the show received 1,000 letters a week offering advice on her many problems.

1949: Irna Phillips' These Are My Children premiered on NBC. It was the first major network television soap opera. It ran weekdays at 5 p.m. until it went off the air just weeks later, on February 25.
1967: On Another World, Mary (Virginia Dwyer) and Jim (Shepperd Strudwick) were relieved knowing [The Guiding Light's] Mike Bauer got on a plane and left Bay City.
1968: On Dark Shadows, Barnabas (Jonathan Frid) was furious to awaken again as a vampire. Ben (Thayer David) had promised to drive a stake through Barnabas' heart, but couldn't go through with it. Ben explained that he was prevented by the witch, Angelique (Lara Parker), from keeping his word.

1937: Irna Phillips' The Guiding Light premiered on NBC Radio. The show ran on radio (NBC then CBS) until 1956. In 1952, the series transitioned to CBS-TV, airing both on TV and radio until 1956. The show ran on TV until September 18, 2009, making it the longest running scripted series in broadcast history (18,262 episodes on TV and radio).

1966: On Peyton Place, Rodney Harrington (Ryan O'Neal) visited Allison Mackenzie (Mia Farrow) at Doctors Hospital. She had told Rodney she loved him on the day of his arraignment but she no longer remembered her feelings for him. The episode was written by Sonya Roberts and Rita Lakin. Lakin went on to become head writer of daytime soap opera The Doctors.

1965: On Scarlett Hill, Kate (Beth Lockerbie) and Pearl discussed their fears that Ruth was only marrying Mr. Quill for his money. Sheila became extremely rude to Pearl when Pearl tried to show her pictures of the five-year-old she was about to adopt. Sheila revealed a bit of her tragic life to Stan. Ruth openly admitted to Kate that she was only getting married for the money, knowing there was nothing Kate could do to stop her, and Ruth discovered the recording device Pearl planted in the hopes of catching the avaricious woman's plans on tape.
Note: Scarlett Hill, a daytime serial about the residents of a hotel in Scarlett Hill, New York, originally ran in Canada from 1962-1964. This episode is from the show's first syndicated run in the United States.
1972: On The Edge of Night, Adam Drake (Don May) ran through the streets of Manhattan in an attempt to find and propose marriage to Nicole Travis (Maeve McGuire) by midnight.
1976: NBC aired the final episode of the Another World spin-off Somerset after a six year run. The show was canceled to make room for another P&G soap, Lovers & Friends.
1980: On Another World, as the party guests counted down to the New Year, an intoxicated Pat Randolph (Beverly Penberthy) collapsed just as Philip Lyons (Robert Gentry) proposed. The Brady Bunch star Christopher Knight made his first appearance as Leigh Hobson.

1968: On Dark Shadows, David (David Henesy) felt guilty for causing Roger's "accident."

1966: On Dark Shadows, David Collins (David Henesy) discovered Victoria Winters (Alexandra Moltke) in the secret room but was afraid he might get into trouble so he ran away and left her there still tied up.
1967: On The Doctors, Dr. Matt Powers (James Pritchett) revealed to his wife, Maggie (Bethel Leslie), that the hospital board requested he use the morals clause in Althea's contract to terminate her employment.

1931: Myrt and Marge premiered as a primetime soap opera that followed the lives and escapades of two chorus girls. Creator Myrtle Vail (Damerel) pitched the idea to the Wrigley chewing gum makers, naming her lead characters Myrtle Spear and Marge Minter. Myrt and Marge became the first radio series Wrigley sponsored. The show moved to daytime in January 1937 (a few weeks before The Guiding Light premiered) and ran until 1942. Vail revived Myrt and Marge as a syndicated series from 1946-1947.

1968: Joan Crawford made the second of four appearances on The Secret Storm as Joan Borman Kane, substituting for her sick daughter Christina Crawford.
1968: On One Life to Live, Joe (Lee Patterson) told Anna (Doris Belack) about his feelings for her, which went beyond the boundaries of friendship. Meredith (Trish Van Devere) had left the hospital but nobody knew where she went. Karen (Niki Flacks) was the only person who saw Meredith leave, and Larry (Paul Tulley) was concerned since he and Meredith were supposed to be getting married tomorrow. Dr. Jim Craig (Robert Milli) told Dr. Price Trainor (Thurman Scott) about a patient, Carla (Ellen Holly), who had been receiving outside treatment. Jim wanted Price to assist him with Carla but he was unaware that Price was attracted to her as well.
1975: On Ryan's Hope, Delia (Ilene Kristen) intensified her efforts to make trouble for Frank. After Mary (Kate Mulgrew) found out that Delia destroyed the campaign headquarters, Delia convinced Mary that she wanted only good to come out of the campaign for Frank.
