Freeform Reveals Premiere Fates for 'Marvel's Cloak & Dagger,' 'The Bold Type' & 'Famous in Love'

At the inaugural Freeform Summit today in Los Angeles, opened by "grown-ish" stars and musical artists Chloe x Halle, Disney's young adult television network announced a strategic shift in the brand as they hosted a series of panel discussions addressing activism, social change, representation in television and various other important issues defining modern youth culture. "At Freeform, we're purposefully and passionately moving our brand forward by defying expectations and dismantling conventions; busting stereotypes of theme, cast and culture in service to a more inclusive world on and off screen," said Tom Ascheim, president of Freeform.

The network-wide event was led by pioneers of change in television, entertainment and cultural evolution and featured the leading voices at the forefront of Freeform's 2018 programming slate, including Yara Shahidi, Karlie Kloss, Kenya Barris, Katie Stevens, Karey Burke, Aisha Dee, Nikohl Boosheri, Trevor Jackson, Melora Hardin, Joanna Coles, Marlene King, Amanda Lasher, Peter Paige, Bradley Bredeweg, Joanna Johnson, Eline Powell, Esther Povitsky, Benji Aflalo, Meghann Fahy, Elliot Fletcher, Olivia Holt, Aubrey Joseph, Jeph Loeb, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Joe Pokaski and more. Also in attendance and contributing to the conversations were key influencers, tastemakers and pop cultural titans who are impacting cultural change through storytelling, mentorship and engagement.

Freeform Gives Siren a 10-Episode Order

"Siren" takes us inside Bristol Cove - a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean. The series stars Alex Roe ("The 5th Wave") as Ben, a bright marine biologist who finds himself drawn to Ryn, a mysterious new girl in town played by Eline Powell ("Game of Thrones"), who is a strange young woman with a deep dark secret. Fola Evans-Akingbola ("An American Exorcism") stars as Maddie, also a marine biologist who works with Ben, and is highly suspicious of Ryn. Ian Verdun ("Life's a Drag") stars as Xander, a deep sea fisherman on a quest to uncover the truth; and Rena Owen ("Star Wars" Episodes II and III) as Helen, the town eccentric who seems to know more about the mermaids than she lets on. Based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White who both serve as executive producers.
