'Empire' Fall Finale and Premiere of 'Star' Set to Air on December 14

On Wednesday, December 14, FOX is presenting a night of music and drama. Airing one night only at a special time, Empire's Season Three fall finale (8 p.m. ET/PT) kicks off the night, followed by the special premiere of Star (9 p.m. ET/PT). From Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy, Star will then premiere in its regular time period with an all-new episode Wednesday, January 4 (9 p.m. ET/PT).

Featuring a soundtrack of original music and stunning music performances, Star is an emotionally powerful drama that follows three talented young singers -- desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom -- as they navigate the cut-throat music business. The series stars Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award, Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award winner Queen Latifah as Carlotta and Emmy Award nominee Benjamin Bratt as Jahil, and newcomers Jude Demorest as Star, Ryan Destiny as Alexandra, Brittany O'Grady as Simone and Amiyah Scott as Cotton. The series also will feature guest stars Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz, supermodel/actress Naomi Campbell and Grammy Award-nominated musician and actor Tyrese Gibson.

Steel Magnolias Brings In 6.5 Million Viewers For Lifetime

The Lifetime Original Movie Steel Magnolias, a television adaptation of the iconic play and 1989 film, reached new heights for the network, averaging 6.5 million Total Viewers in its world premiere last night, becoming Lifetime’s third most-watched original telecast ever -- posting its best delivery since 2006 (Life is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story) -- and the number one cable movie among Total Viewers since 2007 (excluding miniseries).

Starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah and also starring Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye, Condola Rashad with Jill Scott and Alfre Woodard, the Sony Pictures Television-produced film averaged 3.2 million Adults 25-54 viewers, Lifetime’s best delivery in the demographic for a movie in 17 years since the 1995 premiere of Almost Golden: The Jessica Savitch Story, and a cable best since 2006.  Among Women 25-54, Steel Magnolias has become Lifetime’s most-watched movie in network history with 2.5 million viewers, a cable best since at least 2004, according to Nielsen Research. It also averaged 3.0 million Adults 18-49 viewers (cable’s best since 2007), 2.4 million Women 18-49 viewers (cable’s best since 2010) and a 4.9 Household rating.

Steel Magnolias Movie Coming To Lifetime October 7; Watch A Sneak Peek

The world-premiere of the highly anticipated Lifetime Original Movie Event, Steel Magnolias, is set to debut Sunday, October 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.  Golden Globe® and Grammy® Award winner and Academy Award® nominee Queen Latifah stars in and executive produces the film, a television adaptation of the iconic play and 1989 film of the same name, reuniting her with producing duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, from the Oscar and Golden Globe winning Chicago and Hairspray.  Directed by Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun), the film will feature Queen Latifah taking on the role of ‘M’Lynn’ and starring alongside Tony® Award winner Phylicia Rashad as ‘Clairee,’ Independent Spirit Award nominee Adepero Oduye as ‘Annelle,’ Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad as ‘Shelby,’ with Grammy winner Jill Scott as ‘Truvy’ and Golden Globe and multiple Emmy®- winner Alfre Woodard as ‘Ouiser.’
