Stacy McQueen stars as Annette Champagne in Pretty.
The wait is over: Indie Series Award-winning Pretty returns today with the first brand new episodes in over two years. And now that it’s back, the show that redefined what it meant to be a "Toddler" with a "Tiara," is breaking new ground, taking on a "Dance Mom" theme.

"This is a whole new Pretty," promises series creator/writer/director, Steve Silverman, "When we decided to do a new season, we didn't want to take our Champagne family back to the pageants. So the idea came to me to push the story forty years forward and move us into reality TV’s new obsession, dance competition shows."

The sublime Stacy McQueen and scene-stealing Dee Freeman return for the new season. Added to the cast are Adrienne Wilkinson (Venice, Xena), Michael Caruso (Emmy-nominated DeVanity), and Diane Delano (Fumbling Thru the Pieces).

Daytime Soap Operas: Best & Worst of 2014
"B&B has the best production values (by far), best music, exotic location sequences and was the most consistent soap of 2014."

The Best of Soaps 2014
"No moment this year was more fantastic—or fantastical—than when Luke Spencer, a drooling vegetable held captive in the Miscavige Institute for the criminally crazy, came face-to-face with his evil look-alike, Fluke."

Turkish soaps invade Latin America, land of 'telenovela'
Dubbed in Spanish by Chilean actors, Thousand and One Nights has achieved an audience share not seen in years in the South American country, reversing the sinking fortunes of the channel airing it. Chilean channel Mega was a struggling network when it bought Thousand and One Nights after the program was turned down by Canal 13, one of the country s leading broadcasters. The series began airing in March and soon became the most-viewed show of the year, pulling the rest of Mega's programming by its coattails. The channel now has the top news show and morning program, as well, and is the only Chilean network on track to turn a profit in 2014.

Trustee Blasts One Life To Live and All My Children Producer Prospect Park's Chapter 11 Disclosure
U.S. Trustee Roberta A. DeAngelis argues that PPN's disclosure statement should be rejected because the plan itself is defective and would only take effect once funds are available to pay administrative and priority tax claims, a situation that seemingly depends on the company succeeding in its $95 million lawsuit against the ABC television network.

INTERVIEW: Steve Silverman Previews The Hot as Hell Web Series Festival

PRETTY and THE INN creator Steve Silverman teamed up with FUMBLING THRU THE PIECES creator Julie Smith earlier this year and founded the Hot as Hell Web Series Festival, which will debut in Palm Springs on Friday, August 16. They pulled in a few other top-notch showrunners (from DEVANITY and VENICE) and came up with what promises to be a unique and fun three-day event. We Love Soaps caught up with the Indie Soap Award-winning Silverman to find out more.

So how did the idea for this Fan Fest come about?

"Julie Smith and I have been very good friends for several years now," Silverman explained. "A couple of months ago right as the festivals were gearing up--LA Webfest, Hollyweb Fest---I turned to Julie and said, 'These festivals are great. Why aren't we doing our own thing? And why aren't we doing something that's fan based? Why don't we do something for the fans?'"

NEWS ROUNDUP: Steven Weber Joins DALLAS, Shocking DALLAS Reveal, Nathan Parsons, Jordan Lane Price, Peyton List

AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Steven Weber lands recurring role in DALLAS
Weber will play Governor McConaughey, an ambitious politico who conspires with Cliff Barnes and Harris Ryland to take down the Ewing family. Weber will first air in Season 2′s 12th episode.

DALLAS star Jesse Metcalfe on Christopher's Big Ride; Plus, a big revelation from J.R.'s past
[MAJOR SPOILER ALERT] The March 4 episode features the environmentally conscious Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) stepping up his war against cousin John Ross (Josh Henderson) by competing in a winner-takes-all car race for a lucrative methane fuel contract.

Off the track, Christopher's long-absent uncle, Gary Ewing (Ted Shackelford), returns to town to help Bobby (Patrick Duffy) — and the episode ends with some troubling news about J.R. (Larry Hagman). His death the following week will lead to a shocking reveal that J.R. is behind the disappearance of Chris' mother, Pam (Victoria Principal, who last played the role in 1987).

"All hell breaks loose," Metcalfe teases. "As we peel back the layers of the onion, a lot of things come to light. J.R. was attempting to set something in motion, and that involved Pam. I can't reveal more, but I'm excited about the possibility of Victoria Principal coming back to the show."

How Social Media Made SCANDAL a Hit in Season 2
Live-tweeting parties where the cast interacts with the fans online during both airings using the hashtag #AskScandal - seem to have paid off.

Nathan Parsons on BUNHEADS Romance, Stripping For His Bosses, GENERAL HOSPTIAL Offer
Any chance Parsons and Jonathan Jackson (now a regular on Nashville) will show up for a reunion of the Luke Spencer spawns for GH's 50th anniversary? "They're actually talking about that and it would be so good to see everybody," Parsons says. "They call every now and then and ask if I'd be interested in coming back for something longer. If the situation is right, I'd absolutely do it, but things have been pretty busy lately and pilot season is happening. So we'll see."

The Surprising Power of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS
The ABC Family phenomenon and its digitally-inclined stars — Lucy Hale, 23; Ashley Benson, 23; Shay Mitchell, 25; and Troian Bellisario, 27 — are changing how networks measure success, one photobomb, tweet, status update, and Keek video at a time.

Jordan Lane Price

Kevin Bacon recalls playing Tim Werner on GUIDING LIGHT in Soap Opera Digest interview
"I was Tim The Teenage Alcoholic for pretty much the entire year and then I learned something which was very important about soap operas," he explained. "There was a guy who had been on the show for years and he took me aside and he said, 'Ya gotta be careful about doing anything too well because they will write that for you again and again and again.' In this guy's case, he was an amazing crier, like at the drop of a hat, full-on waterworks. And he was kind of like the patriarch on the show and yet, because they saw him cry so well, t"

"So, I was doing a scene where the pressure was building up on Tim again and I was getting more and more angry and I said to the director, 'Hey, I'm thinking about maybe just punching this locker, just out of frustration, punching this locker,' and he said 'Yeah, that's a great idea. Punch the locker.' So, they said action and I punched the locker and the next week, I got a script where I was punching the desk and then I was punching that and punching that. Every week, I was punching something and I became Tim The Teenage Alcoholic Puncher with a swollen hand. This is my first chance to be on television again since then."

4th Annual Indie Soap Awards Nominations Announced

4th Annual Indie Soap Awards Nominations Announced Today

- Surge of "extraordinary" shows this year; committee "inspired;" faced with "excruciating choices."
DEVANITY and OUT WITH DAD most nominated drama series; HUSBANDS, THE BLOODY MARY SHOW,  and PRETTY most nominated comedies.
- Winners to be announced Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at legendary awards show.

New York, NY (December 17, 2012) - Could this be a turning point in the history of Television? The entire world wide web?

"After breaking all these records (to begin with, we had the most submissions ever and the most nominations ever) we faced a daunting task.  Excruciating choices.  Haggling and horse trading were at an all-time high. But the quantity of high quality made it all worthwhile.  We were definitely inspired.

"But honestly, we barely avoided fisticuffs during the final meeting! There just has never been so much carnage after reducing each category to only six nominees," said We Love Soaps founder Roger Newcomb.

"We used to argue on behalf of a potential nominee, 'it's so good, it could be on TV.'  This time, to make the cut, it had to be, 'this is excellent, it's better than anything on TV!'  It's extraordinary. I think we've passed an historic landmark for the genre.  In so many ways, the shows on this list are better than the scripted, serialized programming on network Television.  Than anything on network Television."

Over 40 web series received at least one nomination.  Almost 100 were submitted.  To be considered, among other qualifications, shows had to be independent, scripted, professional and serialized. And, they had to broadcast at least three episodes in 2012.  In addition to general excellence in TV programming, a special premium is placed on series which follow the mission of the Awards' charity sponsor, the Indie Series Network.  Their mission is to bring quality, independently-produced TV series, with socially relevant messaging and artistic merit, to under-served audiences.

Happily, everyone who worked on one of the series that was accepted for consideration, whether nominated or not, is invited (and encouraged) to attend the enormous, star-studded, industry-only gala celebration planned for February 19, 2013 at New World Stages in New York City. All-access Guest Passes for the event (really a series of events) just went on sale - at a discount, early bird rate, for now. Series will all be able to sit together for the actual Award Presentation Ceremony as long as they reserve their assigned seats before January 5.

NOW, THE NOMINEES
DEVANITY and OUT WITH DAD led all drama series with nine nominations each.  HUSBANDS, THE BLOODY MARY SHOW and PRETTY each had nine nominations on the comedy side.

THE INN: "Freaky" Photos of Denise Alexander, Mark Gantt, Crystal Chappell, and More

Something scary just happened!

There was a flicker, a creak, a cold draft--and then, about five minutes ago, my inbox lit up with... exclusive new photographs from THE INN, the latest (and creepiest) creation of Indie superstar Steve Silverman.

Where did they come from? How did they get here?

Like so much else about this spooky series, it's a mystery. All I know, is that the photos, which appear to be from the set, can't be found anywhere else--only on We Love Soaps. But they do seem to raise more questions than they answer. I wonder what it all means?

Tell us your thoughts in the Comments section below, but keep in mind, THE INN emerged from the same nutty noggin that created Best Web Series (Comedy) Indie Soap Award Winner PRETTY, a rather oddball work of genius. We'll have to be creative...

So, now, let's see, in addition to Denise Alexander, it looks like we have: Ray Proscia, Mark Gantt, Kyle David Pierce, Stuart Allen, Chuck Sloan and... sweet mother of God! It's Crystal Chappell! Let's look for clues.

Let's start with the great Denise Alexander, pictured above.. All Steve will reveal about her character is her name: "Lola." And yes, she is wearing a wig.  Is that a cloak and a broom as well?

INTERVIEW: Steve Silverman Previews What Makes THE INN So INNteresting; Casts Crystal Chappell In Lead Role

Steve Silverman, dubbed "the junior Ryan Murphy" in our interview with Joan Van Ark, just announced Crystal Chappell as the lead in his new project, THE INN. Silverman is best known as creator and showrunner of PRETTY, the five-time Indie Soap Award winning web series that was named Best Web Series (Comedy) at this year's ceremony. We Love Soaps caught up with Silverman today to find out more about what's ahead on THE INN.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: You're probably most famous for creating PRETTY, which has won a ton of awards and amassed an enormous cult following. What inn-spired you to start over?
STEVE SILVERMAN: Well, I don't know that I'm "starting over" - haha - I prefer "moving forward." I love PRETTY, it's been a wild, fun, awesome ride, beyond anything I could have imagined. After three seasons, it's time to try something new, branch out a bit, and most importantly for me, show an audience what other tricks I have up my sleeve.

THEY'RE WAITING: The cast of PRETTY needs your help on $5 Friday!
"We would love to give you another season. But the truth is: another season costs money."

Thus proclaims Indie Soap guru (and Indie Soap Award winner) Steve Silverman, "The PRETTY Guy," who is officially campaigning to fund another season of Indie Soap Award darling PRETTY. First, let us say--Hooray for more PRETTY! For awhile there, we had feared the worst.

But also--Steve may be PRETTY, but he's also pretty smart.  What he says is all too true. Ultimately, it's up to all of us to ante-up if we want more of our favorite shows.

National Gay Lesbian Chamber Of Commerce Partners With Indie Soap Awards

As organizers of The 3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards, We Love Soaps TV is honored to announce our Community Partnership with The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, New York Chapter (NGLCCNY).  NGLCCNY is committed to forming a broad-based coalition representative of the various interests of LGBT owned and friendly businesses, professionals, and students of business for the purpose of promoting economic growth and prosperity of its members.

We spoke with Richard Oceguera, President of the respected organization, about the cultural impact of the Indie Soap Awards in the New York LGBT community.  "NGLCCNY is proud to support the talented artists who are creating this exciting new wave of video content," he said. "That many of the nominees are LGBT is a testament to the massive creative and business genius that our community has to offer!"

While daytime television has wavered in its commitment to accurately and respectfully representing the lives of gay/lesbian individuals, Indie Soaps have always portrayed members of this community with complexity, depth, and resilience.  This year's nominees such as ANACOSTIA, ANYONE BUT ME, EMPIRE, GREGORY WAY TV, HUSBANDS, HUSTLING, OUT WITH DAD, PRETTY, and VENICE, all prominently feature LGBT characters with real strengths and flaws.  They are part of the very fabric of their shows, not trounced out for a "special episode."

Such diverse and rich portrayals help to transform lives, empower viewers, and validate a sense of universal experience.  Similarly, NGLCCNY offers opportunities for New Yorkers who wish to succeed in business, improve connections, and empower their personal and professional communities.  We are grateful to Mr. Oceguera for recognizing this commitment in the Indie Soap Awards, and look forward to seeing all of you there!
