Starz Summer 2014 New Series: 'Power' and 'Outlander'

The summer on Starz is highlighted by two new series drana Halt and Catch Fire and the fourth season of Hell on Wheels. Find out more below:

'Outlander' to Premiere August 9 on Starz

Starz announced today that its highly anticipated new original series Outlander, adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: The Next Generation") will debut Saturday, August 9th at 9pm ET/PT. The sixteen-episode first season is currently shooting on location in Scotland.

Starz also released the official image of the key art with the tagline, "What if your future was the past?" The poster depicts Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a married British combat nurse from 1945 who mysteriously falls back in time to 1743 Scotland, where she is torn between her husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a Scottish warrior who comes to her rescue. The image represents Claire's physical and emotional journey. At the start of the series, she is a woman who has been transported into the past, but she's reaching back and trying to stay connected to the life and husband that are now beyond her reach. Starz collaborated with The Refinery and photographer Frank Ockenfels 3 to create the key art which was shot on location in the Scottish highlands.

Starz Releases New Trailer for 'Outlander'

The upcoming Starz series Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. The series, adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books by Ronald D. Moore, is currently filming on location in Scotland and is set to premiere on Starz this Summer. It follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945, who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743. Upon her arrival, she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. But when she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited. Now, Claire's heart is torn between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Laura Donnelly & Lotte Verbeek Join OUTLANDER

Starz in association with Sony Pictures Television has announced today that Laura Donnelly will play the role of Jenny Fraser in the original series OUTLANDER. Fellow cast member Lotte Verbeek was announced earlier this week to play the role of Geillis Duncan.

The series, adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books by Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), is currently filming on location in Scotland and is set to premiere on Starz in 2014.

Production Begins on Starz and Sony Pictures Television's OUTLANDER

Production began Monday on the Starz and Sony Pictures Television original series OUTLANDER.

"Day One and the battle is joined," said executive producer Ronald D. Moore. "We fight to do justice to the material and the fans. We'll return with our targes or on them."

Adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international bestselling novels, the series is filming on location in Scotland and will air on Starz in 2014.

Graham McTavish & Dougal MacKenzie Join Starz Original Series OUTLANDER

Starz in association with Sony Pictures Television has announced today that Graham McTavish (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, 24) will play Dougal MacKenzie and Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot, Gangs of New York) will play Colum MacKenzie in the highly anticipated original series OUTLANDER. The series will be adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books, with the first two episodes written by executive producer Ronald D. Moore and directed by John Dahl. OUTLANDER, which is set to premiere on Starz in 2014, will begin filming in Scotland, where the series is set, this fall.

John Dahl To Direct First Two Episodes Of OUTLANDER

Starz in association with Sony Pictures Television announced today that director John Dahl (DEXTER, BREAKING BAD) has signed on to direct the first two episodes of the highly anticipated original series OUTLANDER. The series will be adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books, with the first two episodes written by executive producer, Ronald D. Moore (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION). OUTLANDER is set to premiere on Starz in 2014.

Tobias Menzies Cast in Starz & Sony Pictures TV's OUTLANDER

Starz in association with Sony Pictures Television has announced today that Tobias Menzies (GAME OF THRONES, Casino Royale) will play the roles of both Frank Randall and Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall in the original series OUTLANDER. The series adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books by Ronald D. Moore (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION) is set to premiere on Starz in 2014.

Menzies will join Sam Heughan who was recently cast in the role of Jamie Fraser.

The OUTLANDER series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale.

OUTLANDER Coming To Starz In 2014

Starz Chief Executive Officer, Chris Albrecht, announced today that Starz will partner with Sony Pictures Television to greenlight OUTLANDER, an original series adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international bestselling books. The network has ordered 16 episodes of the series which will begin filming in Scotland this fall. It is slated to premiere in 2014.

The series adaptation for OUTLANDER will be written by Ronald D. Moore (STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION). Moore is best known for his work on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which won him a Peabody Award in 2006. Ronald D. Moore and Jim Kohlberg are executive producers of OUTLANDER, which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining and Supply Company and Left Bank Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.
