BEACON HILL finished in first place for the second week in a row. The second season premiere of WALLFLOWERS was second, followed by new episodes of THE DREAMERS, PUNKED and SUBMISSIONS ONLY.

Indie Series Awards Spotlight: Lead Actress - Drama

The Indie Series Awards celebrate the best in independently produced, scripted entertainment created for the Web. In the next of our 5th Annual Indie Series Awards Spotlight features, We Love Soaps takes a look at the nominees in the Best Lead Actress - Drama category: Kate Conway, Out With Dad, Sierra Hersek, Dark Pool, Alicia Minshew, Tainted Dreams, Lisa Roumain, Split, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Hustling and Colleen Zenk, Thurston. Watch the nominated work featured in an episode of each of their series below:

5th Annual Indie Series Awards: Complete List of Nominations

Nominees for the 5th Annual Indie Series Awards were revealed in a special episode of We Love Soaps TV earlier today. The ISAs celebrate the best in independently produced, scripted entertainment created for the Web.

Hustling led all web series with 9 nominations. Out With Dad was next among Dramas receiving 8 nominations, followed by DeVanity and Progress with 7, with EastSiders and Thurston earning 6.

Among Comedies, Wrecked led with 7 nominations, followed by Bloomers and Husbands with 6. Noirhouse and Professional Friend each received 5.

A record-breaking 56 web series received at least one nomination.

"We had an all-time high number of shows submitted this year," said Roger Newcomb, founder of the Indie Series Awards and editorial director of We Love Soaps.  "The shows that have been nominated in the past keep getting better and the new series blew us away."

The 5th Annual ISAs will take place on April 2 at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, hosted by Carolyn Hennesy, who received a nomination in the "Best Guest Star - Comedy" category for her work on Single Siblings.

OUT WITH DAD Is Back With New Beginnings For Rose & Nathan

Kate Conway and Caitlynne Medrek star in OUT WITH DAD.

This year's Best Drama winner at the 4th Annual ISAs, OUT WITH DAD, is back with its Season 3 premiere episode ("Starting Out"). Rose (Kate Conway) and Nathan (Jonathan Robbins) are finished moving into a new place, and Rose receives a meaningful new present from dad. Later, Claire (Caitlynne Medrek) invites her to dinner. Now she just has to figure out one thing: Is this a date?

WATCH: OUT WITH DAD Season 3 Trailer

In February, OUT WITH DAD was named Best Drama Series at the 4th Annual Indie Soap Awards (The ISAs). Creator and showrunner Jason Leaver hilariously stated in his acceptance speech, "I love making Out with Dad." Those of us in the audience laughed, but in thinking about it more, it's obvious just how true of a statement that was. When a writer and producer loves what they are doing, and are passionate about their work, it shows on screen. Perhaps this is one of the reasons We Love Soaps loves OUT WITH DAD. As much as Leaver enjoys making it, we love watching it just as much. And now the highly anticipated 22-episode third season is hopefully not too far away. The trailer was released this week along with the following Season 3 description:

Life is getting more complicated as school starts again for Rose and the rest of the gang. She and her father experience new highs and lows in their lives. How 'out' is Rose prepared to be? Is Nathan ready to tell Rose about his relationship with Angela? Can Vanessa be who her parents want her to be? What does the future hold for Claire and Rose? Ready yourself for new twists and turns in OUT WITH DAD, the continuing story of a teenage girl, struggling her way out of the closet with her supportive father by her side.

Indie Soap Award-winning HUSTLING has started production on Season 4. Yes! Has Sebastian La Cause, winner in the Lead Actor category at The ISAs the past two years, gone blonde? Stay tuned for updates as production progresses.

Departing THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Emmy-winning actress Michelle Stafford has posted a teaser for her upcoming Indie satire THE STAFFORD PROJECT. On July 28, she took to Twitter to answer fan questions about the series. She described the show as a "comedy web series about an actress named Michelle Stafford who tries 2 juggle everything as it continuously blows up in her face."

When asked how many episodes are planned, she replied, "8 so far!! Hopefully in the long run 88!!"

The 4th Annual Indie Soap Awards (ISA4) were held on Tuesday, February 19 at New World Stages in New York. THE BLOODY MARY SHOW took home three ISA statues including Best Web Series (Comedy). OUT WITH DAD won two including Best Web Series (Drama).

The ISAs celebrate the best in independently produced, scripted and serialized entertainment created for the Web.

A total of 18 web series received at least one Indie Soap Award.

4th Annual Indie Soap Awards Nominations Announced Today

- Surge of "extraordinary" shows this year; committee "inspired;" faced with "excruciating choices."

- DEVANITY and OUT WITH DAD most nominated drama series; HUSBANDS, THE BLOODY MARY SHOW,  and PRETTY most nominated comedies.

- Winners to be announced Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at legendary awards show.

New York, NY (December 17, 2012) - Could this be a turning point in the history of Television? The entire world wide web?

"After breaking all these records (to begin with, we had the most submissions ever and the most nominations ever) we faced a daunting task.  Excruciating choices.  Haggling and horse trading were at an all-time high. But the quantity of high quality made it all worthwhile.  We were definitely inspired.

"But honestly, we barely avoided fisticuffs during the final meeting! There just has never been so much carnage after reducing each category to only six nominees," said We Love Soaps founder Roger Newcomb.

"We used to argue on behalf of a potential nominee, 'it's so good, it could be on TV.'  This time, to make the cut, it had to be, 'this is excellent, it's better than anything on TV!'  It's extraordinary. I think we've passed an historic landmark for the genre.  In so many ways, the shows on this list are better than the scripted, serialized programming on network Television.  Than anything on network Television." 

Over 40 web series received at least one nomination.  Almost 100 were submitted.  To be considered, among other qualifications, shows had to be independent, scripted, professional and serialized. And, they had to broadcast at least three episodes in 2012.  In addition to general excellence in TV programming, a special premium is placed on series which follow the mission of the Awards' charity sponsor, the Indie Series Network.  Their mission is to bring quality, independently-produced TV series, with socially relevant messaging and artistic merit, to under-served audiences.

Happily, everyone who worked on one of the series that was accepted for consideration, whether nominated or not, is invited (and encouraged) to attend the enormous, star-studded, industry-only gala celebration planned for February 19, 2013 at New World Stages in New York City. All-access Guest Passes for the event (really a series of events) just went on sale - at a discount, early bird rate, for now. Series will all be able to sit together for the actual Award Presentation Ceremony as long as they reserve their assigned seats before January 5.

NOW, THE NOMINEES

DEVANITY and OUT WITH DAD led all drama series with nine nominations each.  HUSBANDS, THE BLOODY MARY SHOW and PRETTY each had nine nominations on the comedy side.

National Coming Out Day: The Best of Daytime Soap Operas

On October 11, 1987, half a million people participated in the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. It was the second such demonstration in our nation’s capital and resulted in the founding of a number of LGBT organizations, including the National Latino/a Gay & Lesbian Organization (LLEGÓ) and AT&T’s LGBT employee group, LEAGUE.

The momentum continued four months after this extraordinary march as more than 100 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists from around the country gathered in Manassas, Va., about 25 miles outside Washington, D.C. Recognizing that the LGBT community often reacted defensively to anti-gay actions, they came up with the idea of a national day to celebrate coming out and chose the anniversary of that second march on Washington to mark it.

The originators of the idea were Rob Eichberg, a founder of the personal growth workshop, The Experience, and Jean O'Leary, then head of National Gay Rights Advocates. From this idea the National Coming Out Day was born.
