Ron Raines To Star In "Newsies" For Two Months As Joseph Pulitzer

In a perfect casting choice, Tony nominee Ron Raines will assume the devious role of Joseph Pulitzer in Disney’s "Newsies" on Broadway beginning October 9 at the Nederlander Theatre.  Raines will step in for the show's original star John Dossett through December 16.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, "Newsies" follows Jack Kelly (Corey Cott, who replaced new SMASH star Jeremy Jordan), a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged boys, who dreams of a better life far from the hardships of the streets. When publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike.

VIDEO: Cameron Mathison Performs with Broadway's 'Newsies'

ABC has released a GOOD MORNING AMERICA segment featuring special correspondent Cameron Mathison as he joins the cast of Broadway's "Newsies" for a rehearsal and performance. The segment aired on Monday April 16.

During Mathison's time with the show, which is currently at the Nederlander Theatre, he made a series of cameos during a performance, after having spent the day with the company learning how to be a "newsie." Included in the clip is Mathison's conversation with star Jeremy Jordan.

Mathison is best known for his role as Ryan Lavery on ABC's ALL MY CHILDREN. In addition, he was a contestant on ABC's DANCING WITH THE STARS.
