Remember short-lived CBS primetime soap 'Beacon Hill'

Springfield now finds himself among other musical icons along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Springfield received his Walk of Fame star along Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Live Nation building Friday. GH's Jason Thompson (Patrick) and Y&R's Doug Davidson (Paul) were among those in attendance.

The "Jessie's Girl" singer says he owes the fans for his career in show business. He said he walked along the Walk of Fame as a youngster and hoped to one day be successful enough to merit a star. He also dedicated his star in the memory of his father, who Springfield said unfortunately passed away just as Springfield's career was taking off.

Ed Martin writes: "CBS has also experienced uncommon growth in daytime (especially with The Young and the Restless and The Talk)and remains a vital player (and one that continues to demand much attention) in late night. (In addition, it is entering the summer programming arena with great gusto, not by filling it with cheap reality shows and Canadian pick-ups, but by producing scripted series such as “Under the Dome” and “Extant” that are custom designed for escapist summer viewing."

Soap stars get Sapphic in web series 'Beacon Hill'
Alicia Minshew: "The difference is the budget for one. The TV studios have more money. However, I am proud of how high end and beautiful Beacon Hill looks! Another difference is that we are on location, which gives it more of a film feel instead of being in a studio like on TV. The pace is the same…QUICK!"

EastEnders' Jake Wood on Lucy mystery: '15 endings will be filmed'
[SPOILER ALERT] Wood has said that the soap's bosses are planning to film 15 different endings to the Lucy Beale murder mystery. The show launched a long-running whodunnit storyline at Easter as Lucy was found dead on Walford Common. The plot will run until EastEnders' 30th anniversary in February 2015.

Wood's character Max Branning is among the many suspects in the story, but he told ITV's Good Morning Britain today (May 5) that he may only discover the outcome when the reveal episode airs.

Asked whether Max is the culprit, he replied: "I genuinely don't know. I think there's about four people in the world who know at the moment. I'm certainly not one of them."

NEWS: GENERAL HOSPITAL Pen-Pal Murder; Lupita Nyong'o's Soap Opera Past; TV vs. Online Video Stats; L.A. LAW Season 1 Out on DVD; Ryan McPartlin; Leven Rambin

Soap-opera pen-pal network may have led accused killer to L.A.
A New York parolee accused of fatally strangling a retired teacher in Hollywood may have come west after developing a network of pen pals, some that apparently grew from a shared fondness for GENERAL HOSPITAL. Three months after he was released from prison after serving 20 years for murder, Scott Kratlian showed up in Hollywood and allegedly strangled one of his pen pals, 82-year-old Harry Major.

The relationship between the convicted killer and the retired Hollywood High School teacher was probably one of many the inmate fostered over the years while imprisoned at Marcy Correctional Facility outside Syracuse, said another of Kratlian's pen pals. Kratlian was part of a GENERAL HOSPITAL fan club whose enthusiasts wrote to one another, Jason Ward said in an interview.

You Won't Believe How Big TV Still Is: Staggering viewership numbers and dominant revenue figures
A new study from Nielsen, conducted with ad targeting firm Simulmedia, contains plenty of insights, but among the most striking is the size of either industry. Nielsen rarely pulls back the veil on exactly how big the TV and video worlds are (they do mint the currency in the former, after all), but here it is in black and white: There are 283 million television viewers monthly (the population of the United States is 313 million), each watching an average of 146 hours of TV.

Compare that with 155 million online video viewers averaging just shy of six hours monthly on mobile and almost six and a half hours over the Web. So while TV’s audience is still almost twice that of digital video, the amount of money in digital isn’t even 5 percent of the mammoth $74 billion chunk of change in television. What’s going to bring about growth in the former, said Amit Seth, Nielsen’s evp, global media products, is equivalency.

MAD MEN Stars Dish with The Saturday Evening Post About Audition Tapes, Childhood, and Fan Reactions

As cable television readies itself for the first half of the final season of AMC’s acclaimed period drama MAD MEN, The Saturday Evening Post interviews Jon Hamm and five other key cast members as well as series creator Matt Weiner.

In March/April 2014's cover story, legendary Hollywood reporter Jeanne Wolf sat down with the cast, asking how they've grown and why fans project so much love and hate on their characters. The Post complements the story with a cover based on a Norman Rockwell illustration that appeared in its Sept. 17, 1960 issue (see below). Fans will enjoy the bonus section following the interview. In "Real Mad Men at Work," the Post throws open the doors to its archives to presents a look back at the “new” look of vintage '60s-era art and advertising.

Below are excerpts from the article.

Larry Hagman's Son on Emmy "In Memoriam" Controversy
Sunday night's Emmy Awards telecast tried to do something a little different by singling out five stars who had recently passed away and independently eulogizing them with anecdotes from their respective former co-stars and friends.

The stars remembered with a special moment on last night's telecast were James Gandolfini, Jonathan Winters, Jean Stapleton, FAMILY TIES creator Gary David Goldberg, and Cory Monteith. Other stars fondly remembered in the In Memoriam montage included Hagman, Dennis Farina, Annette Funicello, Conrad Bain, Lee Thompson Young, Eileen Brennan, Bonnie Franklin, Jeanne Cooper, Allan Arbus, Charles Durning, Alex Karras, Jack Klugman, Julie Harris, Andy Williams and Roger Ebert.

"I think three seconds was short," Preston Hagman told ET. "I think all of them were short. If you are going to honor [the 'In Memoriam' recipients], honor them with the respect and dignity that they portrayed. Do it for everyone. These are very talented people. The actors that they’re honoring have done so much for the industry... If you're going to respect and recognize them then do it correctly."

MAD MEN Final Season Expanded To 14 Episodes, Will Be Equally Portioned Between Spring 2014 & 2015

AMC announced today that the final season of the Lionsgate series MAD MEN will be expanded to 14 episodes and equally portioned with seven episodes airing in spring of 2014 ("The Beginning") and the final seven episodes of this iconic series ("The End of an Era") airing in the spring of 2015.

"This approach has worked well for many programs across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with Breaking Bad which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second half premiere than had watched any previous episode," said Charlie Collier, AMC president. "We are determined to bring MAD MEN a similar showcase. In an era where high-end content is savored and analyzed, and catch-up time is used well to drive back to live events, we believe this is the best way to release the now 14 episodes than remain of this iconic series."
