Carly Schroeder Coming to 'General Hospital' as Serena for Lee Baldwin Tribute

Carly Schroeder, who played Serena Baldwin in General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, will be making an appearance on GH for this week's tribute to Lee Baldwin, Scott's (Kin Shriner) father and Serena's grandfather.

The show revealed the news in a tweet on Sunday, writing, "Surprise! @Carlyfries18 returns to #GH this week - for a special tribute to Lee Baldwin. @kinshriner @TheLynnHerring @thejonlindstrom"

Serena was born via surrogate mother Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) when it was discovered that her mother Dominique Stanton Baldwin was dying, but wanted to leave her husband Scott Baldwin with a child. Lucy made Scott and Dominique's dream possible by carrying Serena until birth.

Emmy Award-winning actor Peter Hansen, who died on April 9 at age 95, played the character of attorney Lee Baldwin off and on between 1965 and 2004. In 1997, he also played the character on Port Charles. He was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards in 1974 and 1979.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Brad Maule Revisits His GENERAL HOSPITAL Past (Part 1 of 3)

With GENERAL HOSPITAL celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, We Love Soaps has been catching up with some of our favorite actors from over the years including Kin Shriner, Lynn Herring and Robin Mattson. Up next is actor and singer Brad Maule, who played Dr. Tony Jones on the show from 1984 to 2006. In Part 1 of our exclusive interview, the Texas native talks about some of his early acting experiences and landing his fan favorite role on GH. Check it out below.

WE LOVE SOAPS: You grew up in Texas and were a theater major in college at Stephen F. Austin. How early on in life did you know you wanted to be an actor?
Brad Maule: I didn't know exactly what I was going to do but I knew from the time I was two years old. When I plowed my parents never worried about me because they could hear me singing in the field. I was always a show business kind of person; I just didn't know how to manifest that.  I always felt different. I wanted to wear slacks when everyone else worse jeans. I wanted to live in a brick house and not a farm house. Just weird stuff. [Laughs]

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Are Vampires Returning To Port Charles? (Spoilers)

Soap opera crossovers have always existed in a universe where actors sometimes play the same character on two different series, while other times an actor moves from one show to another as a new character. In the case of GENERAL HOSPITAL, its 1997-2003 spinoff PORT CHARLES and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, actors are doing both. PORT CHARLES star Lynn Herring returned to GH in December and, according to a new story by TV Guide Magazine, the soap is going to address the fact that a lot of people in town look awfully familiar to Lucy Coe from her PC days.

On Monday, January 14, Lucy will drop by Kelly's Diner for some chow and spot John McBain, the good-guy cop that moved from ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Llanview played by Michael Easton, who previously played Caleb on PORT CHARLES.

[SPOILER ALERT ahead]

INTERVIEW: Rebecca Herbst On GENERAL HOSPITAL, Scott Reeves, Liason Fans & Smile Train

GENERAL HOSPITAL star Rebecca Herbst
When she was six, Rebecca Herbst told her mother that she wanted to be on television so that she could play with the toys. Since then she has appeared in over sixty national commercials, and guest-starred in many television series including L.A. LAW, BEVERLY HILLS 90210 and BOY MEETS WORLD. She starred with Jaclyn Smith in the television movie Kaleidoscope, and with Christopher Lloyd in the feature film Why Me? She also played series regular Suzee in SPACE CASES.

In August 1997, Ms. Herbst originated the role of Elizabeth Webber on GENERAL HOSPITAL. She's been honored with three Daytime Emmy® nominations for her work on the soap, including one nomination earlier this year. She met her husband, Michael Saucedo, on the show, and the happy couple now has three children: Ethan, Ella and Emerson.

We Love Soaps caught up with the talented and generous Ms. Herbst to talk about GENERAL HOSPITAL and to find out what makes Smile Train's Season of Smiles campaign so important.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: You've been through several transitions behind the scenes at GENERAL HOSPITAL. This year we've seen some people come and go, and a lot of familiar faces return, either short-term or long-term.
REBECCA HERBST: I'm an easy going person and just go with the flow. But I'm excited to see so many familiar faces, and to see where the stories are going. Frank [Valentini, executive producer] and Ron [Carlivati, head writer] are doing the best they can to keep our feet on the ground and to keep GENERAL HOSPITAL going.

Lynn Herring Returning To GENERAL HOSPITAL

Lynn Herring is returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL, according to a report by Soap Opera Digest. The resurrection of the Nurses' Ball prompts Herring's return on December 14 as Lucy Coe, who is sought out for her expertise on the big event.

Read our four-part interview with Herring from 2009 here. She explained at the time she expected to return to GENERAL HOSPITAL after PORT CHARLES was canceled.

"I called right after PORT CHARLES was done and said, 'I feel extremely unfinished, can you give me a couple of shows as Lucy just to say goodbye to the audience and have me go away?' And I was told no, that there wasn’t that crossover feeling anymore. That was very painful to lose a whole show, but then also told be told that Lucy didn’t have a connection. I was really surprised because I didn’t think two or three shows would have been that much to do just to see Doc and Lucy riding off into the sunset."

The Lynn Herring Interview: Part Four

In this final part of my interview with AS THE WORLD TURNS actress Lynn Herring, the actresses weighs in on what is lacking in GENERAL HOSPITAL today (and soaps in general).

We Love Soaps: You have been married to Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman on DAYS OF OUR LIVES) for 28 years. What is the secret to staying married for 28 years?
Lynn Herring: [Laughs] Wow. I have no idea. Except that we laugh a lot. I just think if you laugh at each other and with each other. And we’ve been lucky to have common goals, both with the ranching and the way we raise our kids. These days it’s tricky, and I think it’s so hard, especially with the financial pressures. We went into it respecting and liking each other, and admiring each other’s professional abilities. But mostly we just laugh a lot. We have terrible things happen but somehow we look at each other and say, “Okay, we’ll get through this.”

The Lynn Herring Interview, Part Three

In Part Three of my interview with Lynn Herring, the actress discusses her latest role as Audrey on AS THE WORLD TURNS, reflects on changes behind the scenes at daytime, and explains how she came to ring the NYSE bell.

We Love Soaps: You're currently in New York and getting to portray Audrey on AS THE WORLD TURNS. What is your take on the character?
Lynn Herring: She’s way over the top. She’s definitely a grifter and out for herself. In some ways it’s close to Lucy [her character on GH] at the beginning. Audrey is older obviously, and a lot more seasoned and been around the block many more times and had to survive. She’s interesting because at some point she’s more of a sociopath. I don’t think she’s really capable of deep feelings for other people. I think toward the end of this Henry has grown on her. But she did abandon her family and that to me is a tricky character to play. She’s only likable to a point, so giving her some zaniness helps. But she’s a really self-serving woman.

We Love Soaps: And she sounds very different from Lucy. I don’t think Lucy was ever malicious.
Lynn Herring: No, and that’s exactly the difference. I think Lucy would do anything to survive but not at the cost of other people. Maybe initially when she started, but she grew. Audrey is already grown up and she has done a lot of hurt.
