Funeral Parlor Sex on 'EastEnders' is the New Crypt Sex!

Ben Mitchell and Paul Coker stripped down to their boxers near a dead body.
When General Hospital characters Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Ava Jerome (Maura West) had sex in the Quartermaine crypt in 2014, it was one of the most talked about moments of the year in American soaps. British soap EastEnders may have topped that "crypt sex" with the show's recent "funeral parlor sex" between Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) and Paul Coker (Johnny Labey).

Nearly 50 viewers complained to Ofcom after the episode aired last Friday, with the TV regulator clarifying that the main cause of concern was the setting rather than the sexuality of the characters.

“We had 48 complaints about the scene where a couple had sex in a funeral parlor, when there was an open casket in the room,” a spokesperson said. "We'll assess these complaints before deciding whether to investigate or not."

After a number of EastEnders fans took to social media to voice their disapproval at scenes that "made them feel ill," the long-running BBC soap opera released a statement arguing that sex was “implied and not explicit."

NEWS: Jonny Labey, Parker Posey, Autumn Reeser, 'Unauthorized Melrose Place' Movie

EastEnders' Jonny Labey: "Paul's romance with Ben blossoms, but it needs to be a slow burner"
“The romance with Ben blossoms over the summer, but I think it needs to be a slow burner. Their relationship needs to work on different levels as opposed to just Ben’s desperation and him feeling fed up. They need to learn to trust each other and Paul should allow Ben to feel he’s making the right decision and that he’s comfortable with who he’s having a romance with with. Ben needs to feel safe that Paul’s going to be there for him, so I think this all can’t happen at once.”

"Drawing from true stories and anecdotes from interviews with the original cast and crew, The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story will highlight the remarkable behind-the-scenes moments that shaped the series — from early casting drama and Heather Locklear arriving to 'save' Melrose Place to the actors begging its writers for even wilder storylines to make them fan favorites," a representative for Lifetime told TODAY.com.

Autumn Reeser will appear in The O.C. musical as Julie Cooper, not as Taylor Townsend
Autumn Reeser, who played overachiever Taylor Townsend on the beloved teen soap opera, will reportedly appear in The O.C. Musical, premiering in Los Angeles in August. But according to Us Weekly, Autumn will not reprise her role as Taylor and will instead take on the beast that is Julie Cooper, otherwise known as Marissa's mom (played by Melinda Clarke on the show).

New York Times profiles As the World Turns' alum Parker Posey's "Offbeat Glamour"
Posey enrolled in the drama school at the State University of New York at Purchase. “I was on probation for the three years I was there,” she said. “I was almost cut my first year.”

But she stuck it out and started freelancing with an agent, who had seen her in college plays. Her senior year, she landed a part on the soap opera As the World Turns.

She was offered a three-year contract (playing Tess Shelby, a conniving Kentucky teenager who fakes a pregnancy), but signed on for only a year and a half, not wanting to get tied down. It was a wise decision.

BBC to cut more than 1,000 jobs
BBC director general Tony Hall announced today that the public broadcaster will be cutting more than 1,000 jobs as part of a restructure caused by a $234 million gap in license-fee income for 2016-2017. The shortfall in revenues has been blamed on more people using iPlayer, mobiles and online catch-up, leading to an unexpected fall in the the number of households owning televisions. Most of the cuts are expected to come from professional and support areas with management costs also being streamlined.

TV Land pulls Dukes of Hazzard reruns
The decision Monday comes as companies have begun distancing themselves from the Confederate flag following the racially motivated murder last month of nine members of a black Charleston, S.C., church.

While TV Land yanked The Dukes of Hazzard because of the flag, it hasn't decided whether or not the move is permanent, according to a source. The show was a new addition to the network; TV Land began airing reruns twice a day on June 10.

NEWS: Linsey Godfrey, Ray Liotta, Katherine Heigl, Jonny Labey

'The Bold and The Beautiful' actress Linsey Godfrey: "I'm so grateful to be alive" after being hit by a car
Both ankles were dislocated and the bones in one leg pierced through her skin. Yet she was lucky. Had she frozen rather than run, Linsey says, she "wouldn’t be here today".

Despite the pain, her first thoughts were of Aleda. "I remember thinking that I had to breastfeed my baby," she recalls. "I’d only just dashed out and was planning to go straight back to feed her."

'EastEnders' newcomer Jonny Labey: "Paul is excited by Ben"
New EastEnders regular Paul Coker arrives in Walford with a bang next week, surprising his grandparents Les and Pam by turning up on Albert Square unexpectedly. Paul's early scenes on the Square see him catch the eye of Ben Mitchell, as well as uncovering a family secret when he realizes that something is going on between Les and Claudette Hubbard.

"He's a bit of a troublemaker," says Labey. "He's come back from his travels as he's been in Turkey, so in the first episodes I'm ridiculously tanned! Paul also stirs up a few touchy subjects. He causes a bit of mischief."

'Orange Is the New Black' Season 3 Will Be About Faith and Motherhood, Lighter Than Season 2
The new season will be lighter than previous ones but will still combine drama and comedy. (“Orange” competed as a comedy in last year’s Emmys, but the TV Academy ruled that it would be considered in the drama category.)

“It’s very important to me to play in both worlds because I don’t think anything is all serious or all humorous,” creator Jenji Kohan said. “I remember watching dramas and thinking when there was no humor or no comic relief that they didn’t reflect any sort of reality because there’s no such thing as life without humor. (But) you need a dramatic spine to hold it together.”

Ray Liotta on Cowboys, Texas Rising, and His Problem with Hollywood: The star of the new historical miniseries opens up about his latest role (not as a mobster)
"I've only done two mob movies, so it's not so much that I'm getting typecast as those things. Just like I've never been in a fight my whole life. I starred on a soap opera [Another World] and played the nicest guy in the world, a really principled, really religious type. I've been lucky, I have done different things, but Westerns weren't one of them. I've been out there, but you've got to show them. It's a catch-22, not just for me but for the majority of actors out there. They do a lot of different roles, but they get pigeonholed in certain things. Playing pretend is a great way to make a living, but this business sucks."

It's Time for Katherine Heigl to Return to 'Grey's Anatomy,' and Here's Why
She wouldn’t even have to return full-time, either. She could suture any old wounds with just a short stint — a scenario to Katherine Heigl Grey's Anatomywhich she was open as recently as 2012. “If they want me to return for an arc, I would love to know where Izzie is now,” she told TVLine at that time. “It’s been a couple of years. I really hope she’s succeeding somewhere.”
