Layoffs scheduled to hit local entertainment industry - DAYS OF OUR LIVES possibly impacted
NBCUniversal issued 50 layoff notices effective Dec. 31, according to the state.

The employees — who primarily fill technical and operations positions — are represented by the National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians - Communications Workers of America, Local 53.

Union president Steve Ross said NBCUniversal officials are saying the workers aren’t needed because the company no longer owns the studio lot in Burbank, which it sold in 2007.

Some of the air-conditioning and building-services workers have been hired by the lot’s new owner, Ross said. However, production staffers who work on DAYS OF OUR LIVES are still in limbo, he added.

NEWS ROUNDUP: Randolph Mantooth Reflects on Soap Career; Plus, J.R. Martinez Marathon, Ne-Yo on 90210, Linda Dano

Soap alum Randolph Mantooth: "I never had more fun in my life"
"I hear a lot of people say, 'You did a soap opera?' Yeah, I did. And I loved every moment of it. I had the time of my life. But then I was offered a soap opera out in California (GENERAL HOSPITAL), and I hated it. Hated it. I did everything in my power—and I was making a lot of money—I did everything in my power to get out of it. I told my agent, 'You’ve got to get me out of this. I don’t want to do this. I hate it.' And they said, 'Now, now.' And I said, 'Look, if you don’t get me out, I’ll get me out, and I don’t think you’re going to like the way I’m going to get me out.'"

"I did LOVING, which was a little half-hour show that nobody watched. And I never had more fun in my life. … I would literally swing my feet out of bed every morning and go, They’re paying me! … You’re in New York City, being paid a lot of money to be around very beautiful women, doing a role that you absolutely love, and you get to theater at night. That doesn’t happen in L.A."

Jon Lindstrom and The High Lonesome Release New CD

Jon Lindstrom, best known for his work in daytime television, (as Craig Montgomery on AS THE WORLD TURNS, for which he received a 2010 Emmy Lead Actor nomination, and as Kevin Collins/Ryan Chamberlain in GENERAL HOSPITAL), returns to the music scene with his band The High Lonesome and their new CD release, “Collector’s Album 1995-2010.”

In a nod to years past, the album offers a mix of new and newly re-mastered tunes from The High Lonesome’s first album “Feel Free to Do So” which was described by Billboard Magazine’s Larry Flick as a "blend of alterna-country/blues and rootsy pop/rock" and called the single “True Believer” a “Bouncy, roots-rockin’ ditty [that] seems custom-made for cranking at peak volume while cruisin’ down the highway with your best buddies.”
