Sheila Spills the Beans to Eric on 'The Bold and the Beautiful'

Monday's episode of The Bold and the Beautiful featured a powerful final scene in which Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) revealed to Eric (John McCook) that she believed Quinn was having an affair with Ridge.

"I think your wife is having an affair with your own son," Sheila told her ex-husband.

Needless to say, Eric did not take it well. He threw a glass across the room, smashing it into bits.

Watch the revelation in the clip below.

The Bold and the Beautiful, the world’s most-watched soap opera, turns 30 this month, and People is helping Forrester fans celebrate with a a family album of shocking plot twists, runway catfights and lots and lots and lots of weddings.

“I think we've created a true sense of extended family for our viewers,” executive producer Brad Bell tells People in an interview about the show his parents started in 1987. “It's hard to find things in life you can count on.”

The 96-page special collector's edition issue The Bold and the Beautiful: Three Decades of Love, Lust & Drama! features behind-the-scenes photos, scenic destination shoots and interviews with cast members including series-long veterans Kelly Katherine Lang and John McCook.

“How long can you be a troublemaker?” Lang says of her character Brooke Logan's 12 walks down the aisle. “She's learned from her past. She’s made a lot of mistakes and become a different person because of them. People still loved Brooke during those havoc-wreaking years, but I like the fact that she’s become the heroine.”

McCook also looks back on his first day on set: “I thought, 'Great! This is going to be on for 5 or 10 years!'”

John McCook Returning to 'The Young and the Restless' as Eric Forrester (Not Lance Prentiss)

Tracey Bregman and John McCook reunited on Y&R later this month.
It's hard to top Victor and Nikki when it comes to couples in The Young and the Restless lore, but for me the one that comes closest is Lance and Lorie, played in the late 1970s by John McCook (1976-1980) and the divine Jaime Lyn Bauer (original cast in 1973-1982, with a guest spot in 1984, and a brief run in 2002). If you've read my Twitter feed over the years, you've probably seen numerous tweets in which I explain express my adoration for Ms. Bauer, and my longing for Lorie's return, as well as the arrival of Brooks Prentiss, the son Lance fathered with Lorie's sister, Leslie (long story!). The return of Lance is a bit trickier, since McCook left Y&R in 1980 and was replaced by the late Dennis Cole. Cole did an admirable job, but the romance was never quite the same for me. McCook went on to join the original cast of sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful as Eric Forrester in 1987, a role he plays to this day. When McCook returned to Y&R in 1993, 1995, 1996, 2005, 2008 and 2013, he played Eric, not Lance. For many fans, his crossover appearances are a big treat. But for me personally, I find myself wishing he was playing Lance and, even after all these decades, probably always will.

McCook is terrific on B&B, and Lorie hasn't even been a thought in the Y&R stratosphere in ages, other than the wonderful 1984 classic episode that aired at the end of the year, featuring her 1984 return. So when McCook makes his next crossover visit, on Friday, January 27, I will do my best to believe he's Eric Forrester, and not Lance Prentiss, no matter how hard that may be for this Lance and Lorie fan. To be clear, I adore McCook on B&B and have always thought he was underrated as an actor. And this isn't a complaint about the crossover. It's a cool treat for fans. I just loved him as Lance so much on Y&R when I was a kid that I can't stop wishing for one more Lance and Lorie storyline. I guess some moments and characters in our soap viewing lives are forever etched in our memory banks, making it difficult for newer stories to ever top them. And those moments probably correlate, for many, to the early years of viewing, when your lifelong dedication was formed.

It also bugs me (just a little) that some actors who star in B&B and Y&R appear as the same character on both soaps, and sometimes they are playing different roles.  It's the same universe, supposedly.  Of course, in daytime, much stranger things have always happened, and always win.

Anyway, in Y&R's January 27th episode, Eric will visit Genoa City to meet up with his old flame, Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman). As longtime fans should remember, Lauren and Eric had a brief fling when she temporarily relocated to Los Angeles (Bregman had joined the B&B cast) in the late 1990s.

Now Lauren will reconnect with Eric, who is the founder of the Forrester Creations fashion house, just as her own company is considering an investment from Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

Even when many years have gone by, I tend to have a hard time accepting an actor that returns to his or her soap in a totally different role than they were known for, at least when the role was as significant as Lance. The prime example of this is Josh Taylor as Roman on Days of our Lives, a part he has now played or 20 years. Why can't I see him as anything but his original character, Chris Kositchek?

Do any of our readers that are lifelong fans ever have this issue when actors play a new role on their old soap? Or even with a recast of a favorite character? Are there actors you just can't accept in certain roles? If so, share your thoughts below in our Comments section.

Watch 'The Bold and the Beautiful' Cast Read The Show's First Script at Paley Center Event

Katherine Kelly Lang, John McCook and current cast members read the
very first B&B script at a Paley Center event on November 3.
As part of the CBS Daytime "#1 for 30 Years" celebration, The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles is currently running an interactive exhibit of one-of-a kind memorabilia and original set pieces from the network's daytime series. The exhibit honors the five current shows, as well as beloved classic soap operas As the World Turns and Guiding Light. Special programming has also been added to help pay homage to the CBS lineup. On November 3, the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful gathered for a reading of the show's very first script, which was broadcast on March 23, 1987. Like sister soap The Young and the Restless, B&B was co-created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell.

B&B's two remaining original cast members, John McCook (Eric Forrester) and Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan), repeated their lines from the premiere episode, while some of the current cast read the other roles. Karla Mosley (Maya Avant Forrester) narrated the script. Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer) and Darin Brooks (Wyatt Spencer) played Ridge and Thorne Forrester, originally played by Ronn Moss and Clayton Norcross. Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester Spencer) read for the original Caroline Spencer (then Joanna Johnson), Alley Mills (Pam) filled in as Margo Lynley (Lauren Koslow) plus a few other bit parts, Don Diamont (Bill Spencer) was Bill Spencer Sr. (Jim Storm), Jacob Young (Rick Forrester) played Officer Dave Reed (Stephen Shortridge). Heather Tom, who plays Katie Logan Spencer today, read the role of Katie (Nancy Sloan in the pilot).

The reading was quite interesting to watch, and hearing the narration spoken out loud made me appreciate this script a lot more than I did 29 years ago. Bill Bell's words were so descriptive and full of depth, and his vision for B&B so clear, it's no wonder CBS was so excited about the show back then (canceling Capitol to make room). I believe the late Mr. Bell would be proud of where the show is today, and of the producing and writing job his son, Brad, is doing to stay true to the original vision.

You can watch the reading for yourself in the video below.

NEWS: John McCook, Juan Pablo di Pace, Kelli Giddish, Sanaa Lathan, Julianna Margulies, 'Nancy Drew'

John McCook
The Bold and the Beautiful star John McCook visits WFMY News 2
On Wednesday, McCook joined Tracey McCain and Eric Chilton on the Good Morning Show. For 28 years, he's starred as The Bold and the Beautiful's "Eric Forrester" but his real names is John McCook. He talked about being in Winston-Salem to visit family and shared a couple things he likes about the Triad.

"It's the best job an actor can have," said McCook, of working on soaps. "The only better job in L.A. would be a sitcom."

McCook said all-time favorite episode is always the one he just did.

"I've had big drama with my sons," McCook explained. "I love those scenes, father-son stuff. That's the most effective stuff I get to do. When Susan Flannery was on the show, she played Stephanie. We had conflict every day because these two people were [going at it] all the time. I miss that with her. My favorite was when Eric was having an affair and he got stuck out on a window hiding, he was naked out there. They hired some Hollywood pigeons to walk on my feet."

McCook said there was one big similarity between him and Eric.

"We wear the same underwear," he joked.

Watch McCook's interview at the bottom of this post.

Does Watching Good TV Make You a Better Person?
In the findings of a study published last week in Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts, the authors claim that watching high-quality television dramas — things like Mad Men or The West Wing — can increase your emotional intelligence. That is, watching good TV makes you more empathetic.

Nancy Drew series in the works from Grey Anatomy's producers
CBS is developing a new take on the character from Grey's writers and executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, along with Dan Jinks, extending a recent frenzy of familiar titles put into network development.

The pitch: “A contemporary take on the character from the iconic book series. Now in her 30s, Nancy is a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world."

Peter Sarsgaard joins Twin Peaks
Sarsgaard will recur in a mysterious role on the Showtime reboot.

Fuller House casts Dallas alum Juan Pablo di Pace to play Kimmy Gibbler's ex-husband
di Pace, who played Nicolás Treviño on TNT's Dallas, will recur on the Netflix series.

FOX developing a racially-charged police shooting event series
In an event series ripped from the headlines, Sanaa Lathan is set to play an expert investigator who delves into a controversial police shooting in which a black Tennessee police officer kills a white teenager.

Twitter Plans to Go Beyond Its 140-Character Limit
Twitter is building a new product that will allow users to share tweets that are longer than the company’s 140-character limit, according to re/code.

The 140-character limit has been one of Twitter’s trademark features since day one. It has long been scrutinized by those outside the company, and many have argued over the years that Twitter should expand it. It has also been a topic of discussion internally at Twitter for years, according to multiple sources, and has resurfaced in recent months under interim CEO Jack Dorsey as the company has been exploring new ways to grow its user base.

Why The Flash is TV’s best superhero since Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Like Buffy, The Flash, says David Sims, "mixed small-change bad guys with a battle against a much bigger threat (resolved in a dramatic season finale). Even more importantly, it was about how heroes are defined by the support systems they build up around them. For all of its throwback charm, Barry’s blended family in The Flash—something Buffy had as well—was a quietly radical element in a genre that is usually anything but.”

Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis could have been the stars of Gossip Girl
They were originally considered to play Blair and Serena, CW casting director David Rapaport tells Buzzfeed in a profile on how he helped build the CW network.

The Good Wife is better than ever in Season 7
"The Good Wife dropped a plate or two last season,” writes Kevin Fallon, "which may be expected when a drama is six seasons in and still brimming with ambition. But with Sunday night’s Season 7 premiere, it becomes clear that maybe some of those plates could've used replacing anyway. Now that the shiny new ones are here and spinning, the circus act is all the better for it.”

Julianna Margulies insists there was no Good Wife feud but Archie Panjabi disagrees
Margulies cried sexism when asked about her differences with Panjabi. But Panjabi let it be known, via Twitter, that she was ready to film their scene together: "I was in New York ready to film the scene!"

All My Children alum Kelli Giddish welcomes her first child
Her SVU co-star Ice-T, who was at the hospital, was the first to announce the news of baby Ludo's birth.

The X-Files revival keeping the original opening credits
The first episode of the FOX revival was screened this week at the Mipcom television trade fair. The opening credits were the same as those that opened the 1993 pilot. “Those credits were on 202 episodes,” said series creator Chris Carter. "They belong on these next six.”

Ryan Murphy wants Lady Gaga for another American Horror Story season
Murphy tweeted the request: "Lady Gaga is so brilliant in AHS Season 5 that yesterday I officially asked her to join Season 6. Say yes @ladygaga!"

27 Bill Cosby Accusers Come Together for NBC Interview
Dateline will air the first joint interview with 27 women who accuse Bill Cosby of rape and sexual assault this Friday evening. NBC News National Correspondent Kate Snow will sit down with the women and discuss their "personal recollections of assault, betrayal, and emotional distress," the network said in a statement.

Why The Affair Featured Full-Frontal Male Nudity
“That moment of male nudity (featuring Josh Stamberg's Max) in the premiere is very much about Helen looking at a new penis and it depressing her because it’s not her husband’s,” said creator Sarah Treem. “That whole first scene is about the experience of having sex with someone who isn’t her husband and how depressing it actually is. We felt the nudity was appropriate for where she was in that scene and that it would be an important thing about having sex with somebody new; there’s new genitalia you have to contend with and it can sometimes throw you.”

'The Bold and the Beautiful' Pop Up Fan Event Recap; Plus, John McCook and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood Interview

B&B's NYC Pop Up Fan Event also served as the
wedding reception for Ridge & Caroline.  Guests were
treated to a delicious lunch and, later, wedding cake.
The Bold and the Beautiful came to New York City on Monday, September 14 for a Pop Up Fan Event that doubled as the wedding reception for the just married Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey).

Fans were served a delicious meal before four cast members--John McCook (Eric), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy), Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy) and Pierson Fode (Thomas)--were introduced the a packed ballroom at the Marriott Marquis. The stars answered questions from the festive crowd then everyone settled in to watch Monday's episode of B&B, a special treat for the fans in attendance who also got to watch the cast react, sometimes hilariously to what they were seeing on screen. No one was more pleased with himself than Fode, who stood up and egged on the crowd when Thomas leaned in to kiss Nicole (Reign Edwards).

After the episode finished, supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk joked that Ridge and Caroline had boarded the Forrester jet and were headed to New York. He then introduced Kaye and Godfrey, who walked in wearing the same clothes their characters were married minutes earlier. This was a very realistic wedding reception, with many familiar touches. Toasts were made, the scrumptious wedding cake was cut, the happy couple shared a first dance, and the bouquet was tossed (just over the outstretched arms of "Ivy" who was part of a large crowd vying to make the good luck catch).

At one point, Wood jokingly called Godfrey her new mommy, indicative of the lighthearted atmosphere of the event as well as the camaraderie among the cast.

After fans finished off their cake, the six B&B cast members began an autograph and photo session with the enthusiastic attendees.

At the end of the day, I grabbed a microphone for Serial Scoop Now and spoke with the cast, who fittingly visited NYC during Fashion Week.

In the first of three group interviews, McCook and Wood talk about working at The Bold and the Beautiful, I try to convince McCook to revive the old CBS Daytime variety shows, Wood talks about her recent projects including South Beach, and both actors share their thoughts on doing New York theater. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Star Winsor Harmon to Attend Premiere of 'Cathedral Canyon'

A new film starring THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL's Winsor Harmon, Cathedral Canyon, is making it's debut on Thursday, October 24 in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Harmon will be on hand at the premiere/benefit.

Set in 2005, Cathedral Canyon is the story of a Phoenix area criminal/businessman, Ryan McBride, (played by Harmon) who has spent the last few years tiring of his main occupation as the go-between and facilitator for criminals and the City establishment. He desires to do something more with his life and like so many others at the time, sees the booming real estate market as his ticket out. To that end, even though people around him are threatened by his desire to move on, he leverages all he has and becomes a principal in the sort of crooked real estate deal that he normally merely brokers for the big-shots.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Classic Photo Of The Day (Singin', Swingin' and All That Jazz)

In honor of the upcoming 40th anniversary of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS (YR40), We Love Soaps will be posting a "Classic Photo of the Day" for the rest of the month. Today's photo is from the CBS Daytime special "After Hours."

Back in 1977, CBS aired a series of "After Hours" specials in the afternoon to showcase its daytime talent. On December 6, "Singin', Swingin' and All That Jazz" aired, and featured three stars from Y&R along with two actors from AS THE WORLD TURNS. Y&R's Victoria Mallory (Leslie), John McCook (Lance) and Beau Kazer (Brock) were joined by ATWT's Don Hastings and Keith Charles.

McCook is returning to Y&R next week but will be playing his longtime B&B character, Eric Forrester.

NEWS ROUNDUP: Beth Maitland Visits Y&R, John McCook Crossover, DALLAS Memes

Beth Maitland's next appearance in THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS will air in late April
The Emmy-winning fan favorite posted the news on her Facebook page.

B&B's John McCook on visiting Y&R and why no one in Genoa City recognizes him as Lance Prentiss
"That was so long ago. [Laughs] Memories don't go back that far. Eileen Davidson [Ashley] was at the wedding, too. The whole schedule had been thrown off because Mel was sick. We wound up shooting the wedding in one day instead of two, which meant Eileen came at the end of a work day at DAYS OF OUR LIVES. She showed up really breathless and then pretty much sat there and wasn't given much to do. But we're all basically extras at these things. Soap weddings are all about the pageantry and the exchanging of the vows. I didn't see Peter Bergman there at all. I guess Jack wasn't invited."

On Eric Forrester's relationship with Taylor: "I was trying to keep a little dignity. I didn't want Eric jumping into bed with just any available set of boobs, but he's a horndog and he's been alone for 12 weeks. That's eons in soap time! Hey, he wasn't getting any from Stephanie. He's probably gone five years without sex. Her death freed him up to sniff around the neighborhood."

Heather Tom's son will play her son on B&B, too
THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL star Heather Tom (Katie) announced that her 4-month-old son, Zane Achor, will now be playing her TV son, Will, starting Wednesday, April 17! "He just had his first shot - my son smiled on cue!" she tweeted, adding that co-star Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy) got to hold the tot. "He's a flirt just like his TV dad!"

Why NBC shouldn't yank SMASH yet
Though the knee-jerk reaction by most network execs is that there’s always something better out there to program, replacing a low-rated show with a new one doesn’t always work.

At least SMASH won’t have to tread water for long: Beginning March 25, THE VOICE will return to help buoy the network on Mondays and Tuesdays. That development, alone, may prompt NBC to hold its breath a little longer on SMASH, which is a passion project for network topper Robert Greenblatt.

Stephanie's Goodbye on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Has Been Heartbreaking

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL has pulled out all the stops to tell one final story for Stephanie Forrester. Well, most of them since Ridge (Ronn Moss) never returned, but even that was explained in Wednesday's episode.

With one moving performance by Susan Flannery after another, and the cast shining at every opportunity, the return of Stephanie's cancer and Stephanie dying has been thoughtful, poignant and, at times, even comical. Even Celtic Woman was part of the action.

The end was near on Wednesday as Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) took care of Stephanie while Eric (John McCook) went to a Forrester Creations meeting with the family.

NEWS ROUNDUP: John McCook On Stephanie's B&B Exit; POLITICAL ANIMALS Canceled; 90210-Old

Photo: Kevin Mulcahy Jr./We Love Soaps
THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL's John McCook on the Death of Stephanie and Exit of Susan Flannery
"It's a wild, crazy Irish celebration of her life. Eric goes out and hires the group Celtic Woman to entertain and we have these sweet Irish dancers who get us all up on our feet doing the Riverdance thing. It's fantastic! I don't think soaps, as a rule, do the death of characters well enough, or even when a big character is taken off the canvas, like with Ridge. There's a tendency to sweep it under the rug and talk about it later. But, in Stephanie's case, we are doing it right! The audience mourns for the loss of their characters and, unless the show mourns too, it's a lost opportunity. This show has always had a matriarch and patriarch and now our matriarch will be gone. I hope we'll handle that realistically and be mourning the loss for years."

Darnell Williams recurring on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
"Just spoke 2 Darnell. He informed me that Y&R decided to keep him on re-curing status, which means off contract.  He'll be staying on, but re-curing status. They took him off contract..."

SHOW: THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
RANK: 35
PLAYED BY:
Lance: John McCook, Dennis Cole
Lorie: Jaime Lyn Bauer
YEARS: 1976-1982

STORY:
Lance originally was interested in Leslie Brooks (Janice Lynde, later Victoria Mallory) but soon became involved with her sister, Lorie.  Lance was the debonair owner or Prentiss Industries who was able to romance Lorie in grand style.  When she visited his home, there was mystery in the air as some parts were off limits.  It was later revealed that Lance's mother, Vanessa, lived there with him.  If we were ranking soap opera "Mothers From Hell" Vanessa would be near the top.  She was spooky, wore a veil, and did not want Lorie with her son.  She spent years trying to keep them apart eventually jumping to her death leaving Lorie to stand trial for her "murder".  Lance and Lorie were married in 1978.  Soon after, Lance's brother, Lucas, came to town and began to stir up trouble.  Lance and Lorie were married again after both characters had left town (Lorie revealed this at Victor and Nikki's 1984 wedding).
