Greg Rikaart Leaving 'The Young and the Restless' as Kevin Fisher

Greg Rikaart is leaving CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless as Kevin Fisher, according to TVLine, whose sources reveal the show opted not to renew the Emmy winning actor's contract.

Rikaart will tape his last scenes in June, ending a 14-year run on Y&R. Kevin will last air in August.

Rumor has it that executive producer Mal Young and head writer Sally Sussman are leaving the door open for Kevin to return down the line, adding the character will not be killed off.

UPDATE:
On Thursday, Rikaart posted the following message on Instagram.

Fourteen years ago, I booked a two-week long gig on The Young and the Restless. In my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined what it would turn into: a career-defining experience that has brought me so much happiness and fulfillment. Playing Kevin and watching him evolve over the years has mirrored my real life in so many ways. We both found love, both became dads and we both have more gray hair now than we did in 2003. I have such love and fondness for the cast and crew of Y&R that when I watch Kevin enjoying himself in scenes, it's hard to know where he ends and Greg begins.

At the moment it is unclear what lies ahead for Kevin and I, as we will be saying goodbye to Genoa City for a while. I am sad to leave a place I hold so dear but also really excited about what the future holds.

I cannot overstate how much gratitude I have to all of you who have been such loud cheerleaders for me. You've all enriched my life. So stick around. The journey is just beginning. :)

Days of our Lives star Kristian Alfonso on Bo and Hope: "There is no hope for Bo!"
"[Laughs] There is no hope for Bo! She feels so let down by him, so discarded. That’s why she filed for divorce. The last straw was his letter saying he was going undercover again—for a year! What about the wife who yearned for him? What about his daughter, who is growing up without a father? And then suddenly there’s Aiden, this handsome, debonair attorney, a guy Hope can lean on. They’re both single parents. They have similar struggles. He’s extremely feisty and a challenge—and Hope is always looking for a challenge."

General Hospital casting 9-11 year old girl
GH is seeking to fill a role described as "Caucasian, 9-11 years old. This is an ONGOING recurring Day Player. Very important role, looking for complex actress." It's possible this is a recast of Josslyn, whose current portrayer, Hannah Nordberg, has been unavailable to the show of late; she booked a role in NBC's upcoming Dolly Parton biopic, Coat of Many Colors.

Daniel James O'Connor leaves General Hospital writing team, remains at ABC
"Thank you to the amazing GH team & fans for a great 3yrs," O'Connor tweeted on Monday. "My last ep airs today. Hope it goes off without a hitch... Happy to still be part of ABC on a new project. Stay tuned."

Bradford Anderson set to make another return to General Hospital

Days of our Lives alum Krista Allen was thrilled Significant Mother cast Linda Gray as her mom
"First of all, when I found out that Linda Gray was going to play my Mom, I absolutely fangirled out so hard. I was so excited. I was also a huge fan of Dallas, a huge fan of Linda Gray. I’ve always thought she was fantastic and it was a real big deal. Linda Gray is playing my mother! It was amazing. When she first came to the set, I just gushed. I was so happy and welcomed her. We had such a great time shooting. She was wonderful. She was just wonderful. She’s such a great lady and so talented and so funny and so easy to work with and everyone loved her. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Linda Gray. She’s fantastic."

Gray guest stars on Monday night's episode of Significant Mother on The CW.

Stephen Nichols previews his return to Days of Our Lives
[SPOILER ALERT] "He’s not welcomed at all—by anyone, least of all by Kayla. He tells her right off the bat that he wants her back, and that he wants his family back. But she’s not having it. Patch goes and has a little talk with Hope and sees how pissed she is that Bo has abandoned his family. But Patch does not buy that for a minute. He and Bo were best friends since they were 16. He knows Bo would never just up and leave his loved ones without a serious reason, but he’s the only one who believes that. So Patch is determined to find him. "

On a possible return to General Hospital during "Fan February" and the 50th anniversary: "If they were ever truly serious about bringing me back for a long-term story, then they would have made a serious offer. And there was none of that. They brought back all those great actors for the 50th anniversary Nurses Ball and they did call me for that. I said, “Are you kidding me?” No, not for me. I felt slapped by that experience and I can’t believe that most of those actors went ahead with that plan. They are so talented and worth so much more than that."

The Young and the Restless star Greg Rikaart books "pivotal arc" on TNT's Major Crimes
Rikaart is joining the TNT drama for a multi-episode arc in the role of Bobby G. Monroe, a confident young lawyer and anti-death penalty activist who is currently defending Slider (Garrett Coffey), the young man awaiting trial for the murder of Alice Herrera.

Oz and law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni recalls his screen test, which was for a soap opera
“My first screen test was for a soap opera. A seduction scene. Fresh out of acting lessons, I was all method-y. I went sleazy. Grabbing the actress, I French-kissed her. Staring daggers at me, she said, ‘You mother f - - ker!’ ”

Unshaven, retired Daily Show host Jon Stewart moved from basic cable to pay-per-view to host SummerSlam, World Wrestling Entertainment's summer spectacular, reports CBS News correspondent Vladimir Duthiers.

"You know, I've spent the past 16 years talking about politics. It's nice to be back in reality," Stewart said in the ring.

SummerSlam needed to be a home run -- it wasn't
Opines Hollywood Chris Hall: "The WWE needed SummerSlam to be a home run. In the wake of declining product interest, which has been consistent in its decline for the past 15 years, the most high-profile SummerSlam event of all time needed to be a company gold mine that would be a turning point in the WWE's fortunes -- not that they're bad. After all, as evidenced by the recent jump in WWE stock -- investors see still see something in the WWE, whatever it may be, considering that, aside from production values and social media outreach, there's nothing that the WWE is exceptional at."

Terrence Howard divorce settlement overturned after judge finds “extortion” played a role
Howard had his 2012 divorce settlement with ex-wife Michelle Ghent overturned when a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge found the actor signed the agreement as a result of “extortion” and “duress.” Judge Thomas Trent Lewis agreed with Howard’s contention that out of fear he signed the divorce settlement, which allows Ghent a portion of his Empire earnings, because she threatened to publicly leak a video of him nude, as well as taped phone sex calls he had with different women.

Greg Rikaart on His 'The Young and the Restless' Character: "Kevin Is Not Gay But He's The Closest Thing We Have To A Gay Character"

Greg Rikaart on The Justin Root Show.
The Young and the Restless star Greg Rikaart is the guest on the latest episode of The Justin Root Show. Rikaart talks about everything from winning a Daytime Emmy Award and working on Y&R to his favorite '80s TV icon (Cybill Shepherd, mother of his former soap co-star, Clementine Ford) and wanting to guest judge RuPaul's Drag Race.

"I like to think I sort of proudly carry the flag of having the gay fans of our show," Rikaart says when asked about Y&R fans. "Kevin is not gay but he's the closest thing we have to a gay character. He's certainly not the Lothario on the show. He's had a lot of problems with women. He doesn't know how to treat a woman. He knows how to give them STDs and not be nice. I think fans of the show who know who I am in my personal life are rooting for Kevin to have a secret, which I think would be fun. It's something I've discussed with my bosses."

NEWS: Alex Stevens, Greg Rikaart, Stuart Damon, Mary Beth Evans, Matt Cedeño, Tyler Christopher

'Dark Shadows' stuntman Alex Stevens dead at 79
Born Alex Poulos in Connecticut in 1936, Stevens got his start at Wild West City, a western theme park in Netcong, N.J. He performed stunts for Broadway shows while tending bar before landing his most famous role as the werewolf on Dark Shadows. Despite appearing in just 23 episodes of the series, Stevens managed to create one of the show's most iconic characters. (Well, two of its most iconic characters, since he played the werewolf incarnations of both Chris Jennings and Quentin Collins.) It was a popular enough gig to earn him a spot — in full werewolf drag — on the television game show What's My Line in 1970.

Out actor Greg Rikaart wants his character, Kevin, on 'The Young and the Restless' to be revealed as gay
"I want him to come out," the actor told Gay Star News on the red carpet at the Daytime Emmys. "I think it would be a super interesting story to tell,' he says. 'I think it would be more socially responsible than just bringing on a gay character - to have someone on the canvas that the audience knows and thinks of as family and takes that (coming out) journey."

How a 'General Hospital' Star and Three Other Hollywood Veterans Began Swapping Stories (and Busting Balls) Every Morning
The ball-busting quartet sitting in the corner by the window in the dining commissary at the MPTF Country House's Fran and Ray Stark Villa started as a table for two: David Kramer, 81, began dining with Mickey Callan, 79, soon after the latter moved to the campus. "Then Bridget [Hanley Swackhamer] showed up and Mickey hit on her and then changed his mind, then I hit on her and I wasn't going to let her go," Kramer says. "We left our original table and took a place where the three of us could be together, and Stuart [Damon] asked one day, 'Could I join your table?' and we just stood up and we applauded and he sat down and that was it."

Mary Beth Evans Back on Contract with 'Days of our Lives'
"I am back on contract, working like crazy and loving the stories I am playing. It is crazy how it turned around."

Harding & Fisher: Making the Case for a 'Harder' Story on 'The Young and the Restless'

If you've seen the hashtag #Harder on Facebook and Twitter, you may already know about the social media response to the potential pairing of longtime The Young and the Restless character Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) with handsome newcomer Det. Mark Harding (Chris L. McKenna). Fans have noticed chemistry between the actors, especially during recent scenes where Kevin was was questioned by "Officer Yummy Pants."

The hashtag is filled with innuendo (Harder? Insert teenaged Beavis and Butthead laugh here) but it's rallied some fans around the idea of a romance. A social media campaign is one thing, but could a story like this become a reality? Would a romance between Kevin and Mark Harding be too big a leap?

In a Twitter discussion a few weeks ago, I heard from some users that it was too sharp of a turn for Kevin, a character who's been embroiled in several heterosexual romances (and marriages). It's too farfetched, they said, for a straight man to suddenly “turn” gay.

But I think there's something there to explore. I think there's a way to make this story happen that honors Kevin's history and yet opens new possibilities for him.

And for that, we need to get aboard the Big Purple Dream bus, and revisit the romance of Olivia and Natalia -- "Otalia" -- at the late and lamented Guiding Light.

Why is Twitter so awful on Sundays?
“I try to avoid Twitter on Sunday nights because of precisely what you describe,” Jacob Silverman, a journalist working on a book about social media, told me. “It gets a little suffocating. What you see a lot is people forming their own tribes or communities, and as the same people start talking to each other, there’s a lot of mirroring of speech, with the same jokes and tics.”

Greg Rikaart: No one is saying that Melissa Reeves doesn't have a right to free speech
"Dan Cathy, the president of Chick-fil-A, is also entitled to his opinions and beliefs but he's funding organizations that are hate groups, organizations that want to criminalize homosexuality in this country and throughout the world, and that's where Melissa Reeves' alignment is really disappointing to me. I am proud to stand up and be an advocate for LGBT rights. This is the last hurdle of the civil rights movement. I'm glad this is such a hot-button issue. I'm glad people are so impassioned about it, even the people who are against equality for all Americans because they are reacting out of fear, fear that the LGBT community is winning. And it is winning!

Greg Rikaart Calls Melissa Reeves & Chick-Fil-A's Don Cathy 'Grown Up Bullies'; Hopes For Better Understanding

FOX News host and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee organized a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" on Wednesday, August 1 after the company received heat for their support of anti-gay organizations as well as president Dan Cathy's remarks about marriage equality. Chick-fil-A today!!!! Loved every bite of it;)!! Land of the free and home of the brave. Love that we all appreciate free speech, right?"

Soap fans and non-soap fans alike tweeted immediate and strong reactions ranging from unconditional support for Reeves to being completely dumbfounded and even disgusted. 10th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks: Soap Stars Remember On Twitter

From across America and around the world, Twitter posts are just one of the many ways soap personalities are marking the decade since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In contemplating the many new ways we have to relate and interact as a community (Twitter, as well as Youtube and Facebook, did not exist in 2001), we discover how long it's really been. But for many of us, sometimes, it still feels like just yesterday.
