News Round-up: Jess Walton, Daniel Goddard, GLAAD

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Jess Walton (Jill)
“Our writers have remained fairly faithful to the characters that Bill Bell laid down, and they’re still around. I always think that soaps are popular because they are a family replacement. So many families are split up, and people move across the country.

“There’s a way of turning on a little box in your living room and checking on family members, and they almost become like family. It is inherent in every human being, this desire for family, and soaps are like a substitute family. Because our writers keep their characters on – it’s not like other soaps that get rid of theirs and change theirs – we have the same ones. We have the same core families and core characters that people grew up with and have grown with.”

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Daniel Goddard (Cane)
"I really enjoy where I’m at right now. I have a 3-year-old; I also have a 4-month-old son. I have two boys. It allows me to be based in LA. Like, 10 minutes ago I was laying in bed with my 3-year-old who woke up early, and I was just laying there telling him a story and then I came down here to talk to you. It allows me to do that. It allows me to be with my family, and I think at this stage in my life and in their life and in this economy especially it’s lovely to have stability."

NIGHT SHIFT's Chad Allen receives GLAAD Award
Chad Allen was honored with the Davidson/Valentini Award at the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony in San Francisco last night. Robert Gant presented the award.

Deep Soap: Soaps Best Moms
In honor of Mother’s Day, Sara Bibel takes a look at eight of soaps best moms.

INTERVIEW: Soap vet Mark Pinter, Part 5
"It was a great treat to be a part of the ANOTHER WORLD family for almost ten years. I was very, very lucky. I got to work with some extraordinary people. I made life-long friendships from that show. Two of my best friends are Charles Keating (Carl) and David Hedison (Spencer). Charles lives ten minutes from me, I see him two, three times a week. Hedison was really my mentor. When I met him, we clicked immediately. Again, it was a case of me moving towards an actor who’d been around longer than I have. I see him as much as I can. David is 82 years old now and he wouldn’t mind me saying he looks extraordinary. He’s in great shape, great health. I love him dearly. As I do Charles. Charles is a one of a kind actor. Extraordinarily passionate, a beautifully gifted actor. And not just an actor, a writer, a composer. And then Vicky Wyndham (Rachel) lives in my town up here. All of these people, I took away from my time at ANOTHER WORLD. It was a huge gift for me, more than just monetarily. It was a very important part of my career, and a very rich time in the history of ANOTHER WORLD. I took away great memories."

News Round-up: GLAAD, GL Staying in Peapack, KINGS

AFTERELTON: Why AS THE WORLD TURNS deserves the GLAAD award
"Yes, the show has a double standard in how it handles gay sex, but calling ATWT homophobic and condemning GLAAD for recognizing the Luke and Noah storyline as groundbreaking is just ludicrous. Not understanding that Procter & Gamble, the sponsor for ATWT, as well as everyone else involved with the show, faced criticism and potential financial losses for including a gay storyline in the first place, is simply being willfully ignorant."

GUIDING LIGHT crew not leaving Peapack-Gladstone just yet
Borough Mayor William Horton said he met with representatives of Guiding Light team Tuesday morning, and was told the show won't be canceling its 2009 lease with the borough to film at municipal locations all over town and to maintain a home base at a borough facility.

"My impression was that they're very hopeful another station will pick up the show," Horton said Tuesday afternoon.

Procter & Gamble, which owns the show, and production agency TeleNext Media Inc. are "actively trying to find other avenues for the show," Guiding Light production manager Kim Armstrong said after the meeting with Horton. She said the show shoots in the borough about once or twice a week.

George Lamb: 'My dad is not really evil'
The BIG BROTHER'S LITTLE BROTHER host claimed that he is enjoying his father's career "renaissance" playing Archie Mitchell in EASTENDERS.

"When I was a little boy, my dad was always successful and I was always used to having people stop him in the street."

Lohan-Ronson Breakup Sets Off Family Feud
Lindsay Lohan (ex-Alli, ANOTHER WORLD) and Samantha Ronson's breakup is turning into a family feud. Lindsay's dad, Michael Lohan, told TVGuide.com the Ronson family was "rude" to his daughter over the weekend — apparently referring to a weekend incident in which the Ronsons barred her from a family party in Los Angeles. Three days later, some of Ronson's relatives walked into a Beverly Hills police station, inquiring about a restraining order.

KINGS Moved to Saturdays
As a result of poor ratings, NBC has bumped the show from its Sunday time slot and is moving it to Saturdays at 8 pm/ET beginning April 18. An extra hour of DATELINE will take over KINGS' Sunday spot.
