Former 'General Hospital' Actress Emily Wilson to Co-Host 'The Hero Effect' on OWN

Emily Wilson and Donald Driver co-host The Hero Effect on OWN.
Daytime alum Emily Wilson has landed a new primetime gig. The actress, who memorably played Ellie Trout in ABC soap opera General Hospital in recent years, will be co-hosting The Hero Effect with former Greenbay Packers star receiver Donald Driver. The 10-part docuseries will premiere November 12, with two 30-minute episodes on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

Presented by United Way and produced by Dolphin Entertainment, The Hero Effect is an uplifting docu-series that brings to life the stories of ordinary individuals who are making extraordinary differences in their communities. Shot on location in ten different communities across the country, each episode will celebrate everyday heroes that facilitate beneficial, life-changing impact on the people around them. The heroes featured in the series were identified in part through nominations from the 1,200 local United Ways across the country. Each episode concludes with a call-to-action, encouraging viewers to visit www.HeroEffect.com and connect with their local United Way or other community-based organizations to create positive change.

"Instinctively, we all believe that there are quiet heroes out in the world, helping others in meaningful ways," said Bill O'Dowd, CEO, Dolphin Entertainment. "The Hero Effect hopes to create some noise around their efforts, in the hope of inspiring others to do the same. With the Oprah Winfrey Network and United Way, we have two strong partners who have built leading, recognizable brands on celebrating the power of the human spirit, and will help us to bang the drum for more heroes."

"Throughout my 35 years of working with communities at United Way, I've learned that the vast majority of people are eager to make the world a better place," said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide. "The men and women featured in The Hero Effect are our local heroes, stepping forward to make a difference in their communities. We're incredibly inspired by their work and excited to help share them and their efforts with the world."

In addition to GH, Wilson's credits include Entourage, Castle and The Newsroom.

The Hero Effect will air monthly on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. ET/PT.

NEWS:Jordanian Soap Star Dies While Filming Scene; Bradford Anderson & Emily Wilson To Visit 'GH'; IFC Rebranding; Series High for 'GoT'

Jordanian soap star Mahmoud al-Sawalqa dies filming deaths scene for 'Blood Brothers'
Mahmoud al-Sawalqa died on the set of the soap opera Blood Brothers, in front of actor Mundhir Rihane, who was playing his son, Egyptian daily al-Masry al-Youm reported on Tuesday.

Rihane was in a state of shock after the death on Saturday, the report said, quoting a statement from his office.

In a telephone interview with Egypt's CBC television, Rihane recounted the tragic event.

"He said, 'Son, I think I'm really going to die'. I said, 'You're joking'. He said, 'I think I'm really going to die'. I said, 'no, no, no, you're joking'," Rihane told the broadcaster. "And at the moment that we were filming the scene, he was dying... the angel of death was there with me."

Bradford Anderson and Emily Wilson to visit 'General Hospital'
A show rep had no comment, but it's likely that the return of Anderson (Spinelli) and Wilson (Ellie) will be a relatively brief one.

'24' ratings: Jack Bauer boosts Fox's Monday
Fox's 24: Live Another Day premiere delivered 8 million viewers and a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49. The two-hour telecast is down 29 percent from the debut of the final season of 24 back in 2010. For a show that’s been off the air for four years while broadcast ratings have plummeted, that’s not a bad drop at all. The premiere was the third-highest rated show Monday night, following The Voice (3.0) and The Blacklist (2.7).

NEWS: Adam Gregory, Kevin Zegers, Ashley Williams, Rob Corddry, Kerry Washington, Emily Wilson

Binge viewing is the new normal, per Netflix (in time for holiday shopping)
Netflix released data Dec. 12 confirming a bit of conventional wisdom: binge viewing is the new normal. Not coincidentally, the data supports the company’s stream-and-binge business model. It also proves you weren’t the only one who devoured HOUSE OF CARDS in a week, or “Orange is the New Black” in a few sittings.

The data suggests binge viewers have little guilt about embracing this new social norm.

The data found out of 1,500 adult TV streamers in the U.S (those that stream shows at least once a week), 61% binge-watch shows regularly. The average binge-watch clocked at 2.3 episodes per sitting.

Adam Gregory tweets response to speculation he was gone from THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL after being removed from the opening credits
"Retracted my last tweet cause I’m not gone, I’m actually back soon! I’m just not a regular and my career is taking a different direction ... Thank you to all my #BB fans for sticking by me through this whole time! You guys are all awesome! I do miss my #BB family."

Why Connie Britton Isn't Mourning the Nixed FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Movie
Britton said of Lights creator Peter Berg's recent announcement that a movie version isn't in the cards. "I think that the decision needed to be made, and there’s been so much going back and forth about it now for so long. And I feel like the only way that was ever going to work is if it just fell into place beautifully, and if everybody was on board, because we couldn’t do anything to risk what FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS has already been."

Rob Corddry Joins HBO Pilot BALLERS
Corddry is set to co-star opposite Dwayne Johnson in BALLER, HBO's half-hour dramedy pilot, which chronicles the lives of several Miami-based active and retired athletes. NEWS ROUNDUP: EASTENDERS Shona McGarty's Lesson Learned. Plus, Emily Wilson Joins GH, Why TV Pilots Crash & Burn

Why TV pilots crash and burn
"Network TV shows might be better off if they started with the second episode, or the third. The best TV shows (most of them on cable) launch themselves into what seems like the middle of a story. People have been watching TV nonstop for 60 years; surely we’ve learned how to figure our way around a basic premise and a set of characters by now. Why drag us through the unnecessary clumsiness of a beginning, an origin story?"

EASTENDERS actress Shona McGarty "really learned my lesson" after suspension
The actress, who plays Whitney Dean in the BBC soap, was suspended without pay in July for repeated lateness. McGarty said that her co-star Patsy Palmer helped her get through her time away from the soap.
