DIRTY SOAP Not Returning For Second Season

On Wednesday DIRTY SOAP cast member Jenna Gering tweeted that the show would not be back for a second season.

"So the word is that Dirty Soap is NOT being picked up for another season," she wrote. "Thanks to all of u who watched. You all have been so supportive!!!"

She explained that the ratings were not satisfactory for the E! network.

"Apparently E! Needed a million viewers for that Sunday time slot. It averaged .8"

Though this news was expected, we will miss live-tweeting the show. At times the stories felt manufactured and forced (even moreso than the typical reality show or docu-series). Perhaps some cast changes could have made it more of a ratings success.

Kirsten Storms: 'Fingers crossed you'll see more of me after the New Year!'

Kirsten Storms only has two tweets since late August. On Oct. 21 she retweeted a quote from @TheGodLight: "You must move through pain if you wish to be happy, for he who stands still, feels the full force of misery."

On Monday, she actually wrote something of her own for the first time in 106 days giving fans hope she would be returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL as Maxie in 2012.

PRIME TIME: Fall 2011's 3 Most Fascinating New Series

3. THE PLAYBOY CLUB
We were heartbroken when we first heard rumors that THE PLAYBOY CLUB wasn't picked up. When NBC officially confirmed cancellation, and then decided, effective immediately, to stop airing the visually rich, morally complicated period drama, we were flummoxed.

We Love Soaps refuses to believe that such a competent execution of the "MAD MEN meets THE SOPRANOS" formula would not have eventually paid off. Unable to bait each episode with cable TV style graphic sexuality and violence, THE PLAYBOY CLUB had to build its audience the old fashioned way: it had to leverage good writing into effective word-of-mouth. That takes time. The silver lining: there are several un-aired episodes sitting on a shelf somewhere, and one day, we'll get to see them.

OPINION: DIRTY SOAP Loses Some Steam This Week!

Family and the role they sometimes play in relationships is where this week's episode of DIRTY SOAP found its focus. I have to admit that I found this week's episode disappointing after last week's stellar but sad hour. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with it but I wasn't all that riveted while watching. I even thought to myself...am I watching this out of some sort of obligation? I'm not saying that they should capitalize on Kirsten's illness but there have got to be more interesting things happening in the lives of the other cast members.

OPINION: DIRTY SOAP's Farah and Jenna Show New And Wonderful Sides To Themselves

DIRTY SOAP didn't have that overt theme jumping out that it had over the past couple of weeks but I picked up on my own theme.

We have come to know these soap stars in very specific roles on this show but things aren't always so cut and dried. Given that I tend to have very strong feelings for both Jenna Gering and Farah Fath, it is obvious that these are the two people I'm starting to re-evaluate in light of events on last night's episode. I didn't realize that I was going to have some shifts in my opinion at the beginning of this episode.

Kelly Monaco: It's "Sink Or Swim" Time For GENERAL HOSPITAL; Wants To See Kirsten & Farah "Be Real About What Happened"

Kelly Monaco gave a revealing interview to TheInsider.com about the state of daytime soap operas, DIRTY SOAP, and DANCING WITH THE STARS.

On the current situation with GENERAL HOSPITAL, she said, "We're very aware that we could be pulled at any time, it's the reality of the times. But we're hoping to make daytime cool for a generation that may not know we exist."

EVENT: Guzzles and Table Flips and Tweets, Oh My! Five Reasons We Can't Wait for DIRTY SOAP Sunday

DIRTY SOAP has been building momentum, and We Love Soaps is getting swept away.  What are the five very best reasons to watch this Sunday?  We all had to duke it out over numbers five through two (as it turns out, your WLS contributors love DS in many different ways) but at least we all did agree on reason number one.

Why do you watch DIRTY SOAP?  Please tell us in the Comments section, below--but first, let the countdown begin!

Reason #5: We can feel it: we must be getting close to the must-see moment when Kelly has had enough Farah-and-Kirsten drama--and she ends up putting the both of them in GENERAL HOSPITAL!
