'All My Children' Star Debbi Morgan Shares Her History with Domestic Violence on the next 'Oprah: Where Are They Now?'

Debbi Morgan
All My Children Emmy winning actress Debbi Morgan will be featured on the next episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, airing Saturday, October 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.

For many years, Oprah Winfrey says she was obsessed with All My Children, which featured one of the first African-American super couples in daytime, Angie and Jesse. In 1989, Debbi Morgan, the actress who portrayed Angie, became the first black actress to win a Daytime Emmy Award, tying Santa Barbara's Nancy Lee Grahn in the supporting actress category.

From the outside, Morgan seemed to have a life worth emulating, but most people never knew the dark family secret she was keeping. In her memoir, "The Monkey on My Back," she writes candidly about the violent cycle of domestic abuse that existed in her family for generations. Debbi says her grandmother, mother and aunts all married men who abused them.

“Not only that, there were nine siblings, four of the five sisters married abusive men,” she says. “And all of the brothers turned out to be abusive husbands, except for one.”

"He’s the ultimate confidence man. He can do anything. And he wants revenge. He’s been slapped or punched by pretty much everybody in Genoa City. He can’t move on with his life because he still has scores to settle. He and Adam will really have the whole town in turmoil. It will be major…monumental! The viewers are going to be quite surprised by the scope of the havoc Ian and Adam will raise."

Stacy Haiduk excited to be returning to The Young and the Restless as Patty Williams
“I was with my daughter in New York and I got the email from my agent,” she recalls of getting news that the show wanted her to return. "I responded right away with ‘Yay?, followed by 20 exclamation points. I was thrilled. I knew that playing Patty is going to be fun. It always is.” Haiduk has already started taping and is excited to see what will happen with her character. “There are really no limits on what you can do with Patty. It really depends on the mood. Is she in a good place or a bad mood? She’s very unpredictable, but she never intends to hurt anyone. In the past, she’s been manipulated by the wrong people. It will be interesting to see if that happens again.”

Whether I’m involved with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS while doing a play or working with Project Angel Food when I’m shooting in Los Angeles, it’s always been about where I can do the most good."

NEWS: Guy Wilson, Morgan Fairchild, Debbi Morgan, Ashleigh Brewer, Ryan Paevey, Kelly Rutherford

Is Guy Wilson leaving Days of our Lives?
Is Will Horton going to be one of the victim's in Days' upcoming murder mystery story?

Daniel Morgan's new memoir "Last Stage Manager Standing" recounts 50 years in TV, including Search for Tomorrow
In his half-century working as a stage manager for CBS, ABC and NBC, Daniel Morgan had his share of unusual tasks. While working on the soap opera Search for Tomorrow in the 1970s, a producer told Morgan his job for the day was to make sure the show's star, Morgan Fairchild (who played Jennifer Pace), was wearing a bra.

"I guess the day or week before, she hadn't been wearing one and there were problems with Standards and Practices," Morgan wrote. He then went into her dressing room and started talking to her about cats "as a pretext to look down her blouse.

"She was wearing a sheer something," he wrote. "But she was wearing something."

The Bold and the Beautiful's Ashleigh Brewer on Ivy's failed romance with Liam
"It definitely got to the point where I'd read the script and my heart would break for her a little bit," says the actress of her alter ego's rough go of things with Liam, who, in the eyes of many fans, disrespected the brunette by tossing her aside in favor of her overtly sexy cousin.

General Hospital star Ryan Paevey on the road to recovery
After seriously injuring his hand in a motorcycle accident, Ryan Paevey (Nathan) tells Soaps In Depth that he's well on his way to a full recovery. "My doc is impressed with how quickly my tissue has mended," the actor reports. "All the 'road rash' is gone. The bones have fused, and my body's not fighting the metal. The surgical side is fine."

However, there are still a few obstacles to overcome. "My range of motion is still really limited," he confides. "It'll probably be a while before I'm on the bike or in the gym again."

Generations alum Kelly Rutherford refuses to hand children back to father
The Gossip Girl star spent the summer with her two children - Hermes and Helena - in New York, and was due to fly them back to Monaco on Thursday, but she declared on Friday in a statement that she is refusing.

"These past three years waiting for my children to come home have been very difficult. My children were forced to leave the United states in 2012 when they were only 2 and 5 years old," Rutherford says in a statement. "In May, a judge in California gave me sole custody and brought them home. I am immensely grateful and overjoyed to have them back. Since May, however, the court proceedings have been confusing."

All My Children star Debbi Morgan shines in one-woman show
In her one-woman show, “The Monkey on My Back,” Morgan opens up about her own life’s journey, from fear and abuse to empowerment and self-love.

The proverbial “monkey on my back” refers to the cycle of physical and emotional abuse that her grandmother and her mother went through. That cycle continued in Morgan’s own relationships, starting with the drug-dealing boyfriend of her youth and continuing through four marriages, with her fourth marriage to Jeffrey Winston being the charm.

NEWS: Billy Miller Leaving Y&R?; Sean Carrigan on Contract; New Role For Debbi Morgan; Diversity at FOX; The Richest and Poorest Shows on Network TV

Is Billy Miller leaving THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS?
With contract negotiations with Billy Miller not going well, Daytime Confidential is reporting that Y&R is preparing for the worst by looking for a replacement, and that the recent casting call for Josh (Paul's relative) is really about finding potential candidates for the next Billy. Sources say that the show is testing actors opposite Amelia Heinle (Victoria) today. Miller's current deal will reportedly expire next month.

EDITOR'S NOTE: In 2011, GENERAL HOSPITAL told a similar story of one child dying in a hit and run accident and his organs (kidneys in that case) were used to save another child. NEWS ROUNDUP: Marlene McPherson To Write ALL MY CHILDREN, VAMPIRE DIARIES Spinoff, GENERAL HOSPITAL

GENERAL HOSPITAL wants to keep its ONE LIFE TO
LIVE characters Todd and Starr (and John).  Prospect
Park licensed the rights to the characters, while ABC
has the actors under contract.
Soap Stars Weigh In on the Prospect of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Revival
"This is such a historical thing," says Debbi Morgan, "like when soaps made the move from radio to television. I guess there are all sorts of positives and negatives to being in on the ground floor, but I'm game! Will [these reboots] succeed? With soaps, it's all about the story and the characters."

And that's where things could get ugly. In licensing the two soaps from ABC, Prospect Park has the rights to all characters, including the three from OLTL that are currently enjoying huge success on ABC's General Hospital: Starr (Kristen Alderson), John (Michael Easton) and Todd (Roger Howarth). Prospect wants those characters back, and that has the GH brass in a tizzy. Complicating matters: The actors are under contract to ABC, so theoretically Starr, John and Todd could go away, but the people playing them would stay with the network.
