DEADLY AFFAIRS Renewed For Second Season, Susan Lucci Returning As Host

On the high heels of its successful first season, Investigation Discovery has greenlit real-life soap opera DEADLY AFFAIRS for season two. Hosted by daytime TV queen, Susan Lucci, DEADLY AFFAIRS became the 30th ID series to break the 1.0 benchmark in primetime, with the premiere episode on September 8 garnering a 1.22 household rating and 3.5 million P2+, making it the second highest series debut in network history. The series will continue to deliver stories of passionate love affairs turned crimes of passion when it premieres as a summer anchor series in 2013.

EMMERDALE's 40th anniversary live episodes nets big ratings
The heady promise of a live, double-length episode, featuring two births, the aftermath of a double wedding and the murder of a key character, was enough to secure EMMERDALE its biggest viewing figures since January 2010.

An average of 9.2 million (with a peak of 10.2 million), a 42% audience share, tuned in to the rural soap across ITV1, +1 and HD between 7pm and 8pm last night to see Carl King meet his maker, courtesy of Chas, Cameron and a polystyrene brick.

On paper, DEADLY AFFAIRS sounds like a variation of NBC's DATELINE or 48 HOURS MYSTERY on CBS. In reality the show is a sexually-charged soaped-up version with Lucci hosting, not as herself, but as a character, perhaps Erica Kane, or a SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE parody version of Erica sitting by the pool surrounded by hunky men. In narrating the opening story, Lucci mentions her second, or is that third, husband. The beloved actress has been married once, to Helmet Huber, since 1969 so hosting "in character" is the first big difference from the shows mentioned above. Lucci is not trying to imitate Keith Morrison, that's for sure.
