The CW Renews 7 Series for Next Season

Jane The Virgin was one of seven shows renewed by The CW.
The CW Network has given early renewals to seven of its primetime series for the 2017-2018 season. The announcement was made during the network's session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena by president Mark Pedowitz.

"Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas," said Pedowitz. "Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long."

The series being ordered for the 2017-2018 season include Arrow (Season 6), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Season 3), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (Season 3), The Flash (Season 4), Jane The Virgin (Season 4), Supergirl (Season 3), and Supernatural (Season 13). Specific premiere dates for each series will be announced at a later time.

'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Premieres Tonight on The CW

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premieres October 12 on The CW.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Rebecca Bunch has always been wound a little tightly. It’s something that served her well as she has raced up the ladder at her corporate law firm in New York. It may also be why she has no life. So when Rebecca bumps into Josh Chan – her handsome, long-ago summer camp-sweetheart – she knows that it’s a sign. A sign for her to quit her job, drop everything, and move across the country to West Covina, California – where, in a huge, definitely-unrelated coincidence, Josh just happens to live.

With her impressive résumé, Rebecca quickly lands a new job at a local law firm, where her boss, Darryl, is more of a star-struck admirer than an authority figure. Not everyone is immediately enamored with the new hire, as the firm’s head paralegal, Paula, is at first suspicious of Rebecca’s reasons for relocation. However, in dealing with some secret personal troubles of her own, Paula becomes empathic to Rebecca’s unrequited crush, and the two form a unique bond.

Settling into her new Southern California surroundings, Rebecca eventually tears herself away from lurking on Josh’s Facebook page long enough to agree to a date with Josh’s friend, Greg, who works at the local sports bar. But Rebecca discovers her social media stalking has failed to uncover one important detail – Josh’s girlfriend, Valencia.

Rebecca’s contagious, sometimes-delusional enthusiasm begins to stir the citizens of West Covina, including her cynical neighbor, Heather, shaking them up and giving them a new soundtrack to their lives.

The CW Announces 2015-2016 Lineup: 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Joins 'Jane The Virgin' on Monday Nights

Wrapping up its most watched season in seven years, The CW Network presented its 2015-16 broadcast schedule today to advertisers, affiliates and national media at New York City Center in New York City. The indie-pop band Of Monsters and Men kicked off the presentation with a live performance of their latest single “Crystals,” and their international hit song “Little Talks.”

“This has been a terrific season for The CW, and is a result of a strategy we set in motion a few years ago to broaden out and grow our audience,” said Pedowitz. “We had our most watched season, and our highest-rated season among men, in seven years. We launched The CW’s most watched series ever with THE FLASH, and with THE FLASH and JANE THE VIRGIN, we received more critical acclaim than ever before.

“The CW is heading into next season with incredible stability and strength, and continuing its strategy of adding more original programming all year long. Our new fall series CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND is original and hilarious, and will work as a perfect companion for JANE on Monday nights, while at midseason we have the much-anticipated DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, and the tense action of CONTAINMENT. These three new series are a terrific complement to our already strong schedule, and allow us to keep building on our momentum in 2015-16.”

The CW will launch its 2015-16 broadcast season in October, with premiere dates to be announced later.
