Christel Khalil Not Renewing Her 'Young and the Restless' Contract, Will Recur

Actress Christel Khalil announced on social media that she is going off contract with The Young and the Restless. She has played Lily Winters since 2002.

"Hello Lovelies!" she wrote. "I wanted you to be the first to know that if you see less of me on @youngandrestlesscbs Opens a New Window. , it’s because I have decided to switch from Y&R full time to recurring status. That means I’m not leaving, just ready (after 16 amazing years playing Lily) to explore new things! I will continue to be a proud member of the Y&R family and look forward to further adventures playing Lily. Thank you for all the love and support over the years!"

Head writer and executive producer Mal Young assured fans the character would still be around.

"We fully support Christel's decision," he posted. "We're pleased to say that both she and Lily will remain a much-loved part of Y&R."

When Will A Black Woman Win in the Lead Actress Category at the Daytime Emmys?

Vinessa Antoine, Karla Mosley, Reign Edwards, Sal Stowers, Mishael Morgan and Brytni Sarpy.
Viola Davis made history on Sunday, becoming the first African-American actress to take home a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role on How to Get Away with Murder. It took 67 years. When it comes to afternoon programming, we're still waiting.

Below is the list of the lead actress winners over the past 42 years at the Daytime Emmys. Sadly, there haven't been that many women of color even nominated, and none that won. All My Children's brilliant Debbi Morgan was nominated three times for her portrayal of Dr. Angie Hubbard. She won in the supporting actress category in 1989, tied with Santa Barbara's Nancy Lee Grahn. Grahn faced a social media backlash last night and today after insensitive comments during Davis' historic Emmys win.

Christel Khalil, Anna Maria Horsbord, Sonya Eddy and Aloma Wright.
The actress with the best show to break through in daytime at the 2016 Daytime Emmys is probably Karla Mosley, who has given one outstanding performance after another this year as Maya Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Viola Davis gave a moving acceptance speech that captured her historic win well:

"'In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me, over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.'

"That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity.

"You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.

"And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union: Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you to the Television Academy. Thank you."

Christel Khalil Settles Lawsuit With Talent Agency

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Emmy winner Christel Khalil filed a lawsuit in August against her own talent agency for allegedly being so neglectful that they sent her on an audition for the very show on which she was already working. Mavrick Artists Agency responded that the accusations were ridiculous and without merit.

Khalil had also accused her now-former agency of withholding her money beyond their standard 10 percent agreement. Mavrick said she just didn’t want to pay her fees.

The case has now been settled.

“The Parties are pleased to confirm that they have resolved all of their claims against each other, they wish each other success in their future endeavors, and the action has been dismissed with prejudice,” attorneys for Khalil told TheWrap.

The defense concurred, though no details of the settlement were released.

Both sides are reportedly "a combination of happy and not happy by the nature of the settlement."

Christel Khalil Lawsuit: Talent Agency Fires Back
The talent agency representing THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS star Christel Khalil (Lily) has countered her breach of contract suit with allegations of its own. Responding to TheWrap, Mavrick Artists Agency's attorney, Max Sprecher, said that the actress's complaint is "all blue smoke and mirrors" and suggested that she does not want to pay the agency monies owed.

Sprecher estimated that the actress owes the agency "in the ballpark of $20,000 in additional commission," and said she "doesn't want to pay it."

He also refuted her allegation about being sent to a Y&" audition.

Christel Khalil Sues Agency Over Contract; Embarrassed They Submitted Her For Y&R Role Where She Has Worked Since 2002

Actress Christel Khalil, who plays Lily Winters Ashby in THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, sued Mavrick Artists Agency Inc. in California court Tuesday, claiming the talent agency refused to let her terminate her contract after it violated their agreement and withheld money.

According to Law360, the Emmy Award-winning actress alleges in the complaint that Mavrick unlawfully converted her earnings and income to their personal use without permission, co-mingled funds from one of her projects to another and demanded payment of commissions higher than 10 percent, among other contractual violations.

“Christel Khalil, over growing and repeated concerns that the defendants had failed in their obligations under the contract … damaging her career and causing her substantial economic losses and damages, served notice of termination, thereby rendering the contract void,” the complaint said.

Nowadays there are many ways that kids are getting bullied — through the Internet, school, work. We need to step up and start making a change, and one way the entertainment business and media is helping is by bringing it into everyone's home with great storylines on TV shows and movies."
