Seeing is Believing: Women Direct. Photo: Sue Coflin/Max Photos
In the latest episode of Serial Scoop Now (2.20), we traveled to Soho International Film Festival for the East Coast Premiere of Cady McClain's Seeing is Believing: Women Direct. Emmy winning actress turned executive producer/director/writer/editor, Cady McClain (All My Children, As the World Turns) talks about her new documentary, the women profiled, how she met producing partner, Kate Super, and much more!

Seeing is Believing: Women Direct is a documentary series directed, executive produced, written and edited by Cady McClain about women directors who are on the front lines of the field: from major award winners and those in the vanguard of television and feature films, to graduate students and frustrated auteurs. The first episode recently made its World Premiere at Newport Beach Film Festival, where it won an Honorable Mention for Best Documentary Short. McClain debuted a feature-length version at Soho International Film Festival.

McClain has spent the past year traveling the globe, speaking to female directors of film and television and documenting their stories. The outcome is a feature film and a serialized documentary, providing insider access to the skills and tools needed to succeed as a woman in the directing field.

The crowd--which included familiar daytime names such as Julia Barr, Jill Larson and Carole Shure--roared with applause as the film's credits rolled. McClain brilliantly edited together the stories of dozens of interviewees, with the most screen time given to fascinating insights from Sarah Gavron (Director, Suffragette, Brick Lane), Lesli Linka Glatter (EP/Director, Homeland), Li Lu (Director, There Is a New World Somewhere) and Naima Ramos-Chapman (Director/Writer, And Nothing Happened).

McClain is still exploring potential release and distributions for the project. No matter what form it takes when it becomes available publicly, it is sure to entertain and educate. Kudos to everyone involved!

Check out what McClain and Super had to say about Seeing is Believing: Women Direct in our new interview below.

'Seeing is Believing: Women Direct' Makes East Coast Premiere on June 19

Emmy winning actress-turned-director Cady McClain's Seeing is Believing: Women Direct will make its East Coast Premiere and is an Official Selection of the 2017 SOHO International Film Festival, screening Monday, June 19 at Village East Cinemas.

Now, McClain will debut a feature-length version at SOHO International Film Festival.

McClain has spent the past year traveling the globe, speaking to female directors of film and television and documenting their stories. The outcome is a feature film and a serialized documentary, providing insider access to the skills and tools needed to succeed as a woman in the directing field.

When only 1.9% of the top 100 films are directed by women, it is a symptom of a larger problem: an ingrained cultural bias against women’s ability to lead. McClain believes the best way to create change is to show proof that the bias is based on outdated and false ideas. Considering all aspects of the directing experience, the series will show how these women drive through obstacles creative, cultural and professional. The series is also intended to serve as peer-to-peer mentorship for anyone of any gender looking for guidance and real world experience as they pursue their dreams of becoming a visual storyteller.

NEWS: Frank Albanese, Alison Sweeney, Jacob Young, Robert Forster, Cady McClain, Kate Linder

Frank Albanese
Frank Albanese, Tony’s Uncle on The Sopranos, Dies at 84
Albanese, who played Tony Soprano’s uncle, retired mobster Pat Blundetto, in three episodes of The Sopranos, died Monday in a Staten Island, N.Y. hospice. He was 84.

Albanese, who performed on stage, in films and on television, was a longshoreman and then a successful boxer before becoming an actor. He got a tiny speaking part in Martin Ritt’s 1968 Mafia film The Brotherhood, which enabled him to join the Screen Actors Guild.

Albanese’s other credits included playing Paul Castellano in a reenactment on America’s Most Wanted as well as appearances in two “Godfather” films and in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas.

He also guested on the soaps As the World Turns and Loving and appeared in the 1969 film Goodbye, Columbus, based on the Philip Roth novel.

Alison Sweeney: Why Nujeen Mustafa inspires us all
Sweeney wrote about her experience with Nujeen for CNN.

"Nujeen wanted to squeal about Sami and EJ, she wanted to tell me about her favorite scenes and how devastated she was when EJ died. She brushed aside the idea that she learned to read and write on her own because she wasn't allowed to go to school. She told me that I taught her to speak English. I apologized for all the curse words."

"I found out later she's been using her language skills to help others from her country communicate in the refugee camps. This incredibly bright girl, who had never been allowed a formal education in Syria, conquered the Internet in a matter of days upon arriving in Germany. She joined Twitter and posted a YouTube video in which she shared her reaction to our conversation and she used it as an opportunity to wish strength, courage and inspiration to others."

All My Children alum Cady McClain makes special birthday plans
McClain will spend her upcoming birthday in a meaningful way. "On October 13th at 9 a.m., I'm introducing the Los Angeles Mayor at City Hall in downtown LA for Domestic Violence Awareness Day, with a focus on elder abuse," she reports. "The police chief will also be present, as well as members of the Domestic Violence Task Force. The idea of the event is to honor those who work in the field and bring more awareness to the issue."

The Young and the Restless actress Kate Linder works on Garry Marshall's upcoming film, Mother's Day
Tweeted Linder: "So enjoyed working with #scottmarshall #garrymarshall #mothersdaymovie #atlanta #juliaroberts… https://instagram.com/p/8i4mEIHBW8/"

Jacob Young on trying to make an impact with the transgender story on The Bold and the Beautiful
"We are trying to make an impact and anything we can do to support it, would be great. Having Caitlyn Jenner or any other transgender model could help to enlighten people. When I started reading about transgender issues, the statistics were something like, three out of five transgender people commit suicide. I think the educational portion is so important. I’m so glad they [the writers] had the stones – as we call it daytime TV so often – to write something like this."

Robert Forster will play Twin Peaks sheriff, replacing Michael Ontkean
Ontkean opted not to reprise his role as Sheriff Harry S. Truman on the Showtime reboot, according to TV Line. Replacing him as the town’s top lawman will be Forster. But it’s unclear if Forster will be playing Sheriff Truman, or a brand-new sheriff character.

John Stamos to be charged with driving under the influence of GHB
According to TMZ, the General Hospital alum and Grandfathered star, was using the so-called date rape drug as a fitness supplement when he was arrested while driving erratically in Beverly Hills in June.

FX renews Tyrant for Season 3
The 10-episode third season will run in 2016.

AMC on why the network renewed Halt and Catch Fire for Season 3, despite its low ratings
"We decided to stick with it primarily because we love the story, and we think it's a show that has a lot of life left in it,” says Joel Stillerman, AMC’s president of original programming and development. "These things are always complicated, and the ratings play a part, but they're far from the entire story. If we see something that we truly love, and we see the talent and the momentum behind it that give us the confidence to move forward, we're all in.”

Empire in a Winery? 5 Hot Trends of TV's Development Season
"Think Empire …" That is how dozens of pitches for new TV shows have begun this development season. "You name it, we've probably heard it," jokes one network exec, who rattles off examples including a "Latina Empire" and "Empire set at a winery." But the deluge of Empire offshoots isn't the only theme to emerge this season, which is off to another late start as networks still are vying for several projects well into the fall.

NEWS: Eric Braeden, Bryan Dattilo, Sean Kanan, Cady McClain, Melissa Archer, Andrew Trischitta

Eric Braeden
The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden attends Carolina Panthers game, shares opinions on storytelling, getting older, egotistical actors
Below are a few quotes from Braeden's (Victor Newman on Y&R) interview with the Charlotte Observer:

“Our show was more successful than others over the last 29 years because we have tried to make it as real as possible. I hate this phantasmagoric bull----. Life is so interesting. Real-life is so interesting. My God. Just ask a person about their lives, and you say, ‘Whoa.’ So why come up with all these bull---- storylines?”

“I don’t give a s--- about getting older. I really don’t. I feel (great). And that’s why working out is so important. That’s why this is still important: boom-boom-boom. (Braeden throws three quick jabs as he talks). ... I’m 74, I’m proud of it – very proud of it – and will compete along a lot of lines with a lot of people. The only pain in the a-- about getting older is your hips. I have one resurfaced hip.”

“I have met so many actors over the years who’ve said, ‘Without me, this show would be nothing.’ ... And where are they now? Don’t ever assume that without you, the show will go down the drain. Bull----. It doesn’t. Are you kidding? ‘Oh, this can’t be done without so-and-so playing the part. Then they leave and we say, ‘Well, not quite the same, but oh well.’ ”

FOX and Lee Daniels Are Working on Making an Empire Spinoff a Reality
FOX TV Group co-chief Dana Walden tells Vulture that discussions have begun about exactly how to make it happen, explaining that the seeds for the new show could be planted by early next year via one or more episodes of Empire. “If there’s a character … that feels original enough, has enough momentum and enough of a storytelling engine, we will definitely look to spin Empire off for next season,” she said. Said character, Walden added, “would, in all likelihood, appear in the second half of this season.”

NEWS: Cady McClain, Kim Zimmer, Robert Newman, Billy Flynn, Renée Elise Goldsberry, June Brown, Maitland Ward, Teddy Sears

Cady McClain meets with Queens of Drama about joining Season 2 cast
Said McClain, who most recently played Kelly Andrews on The Young and the Restless: "So I just had a meeting with the folks from @QueensofDrama. I thought they were really cool people, and I enjoyed talking about their show and what I might have to offer. No matter what happens, I really hope that the women are successful in making their created show a hit. I think that would be so great for them and for all of daytime. I guess I always root for the underdog and I probably always will."

Days of our Lives star Billy Flynn is engaged
Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera on Days of our Lives) reveals that he popped the question to actress Gina Comparetto on his birthday on May 29 — and she said yes! “I haven’t talked about it on social media,” the actor tells Digest. "Our families and friends have known.” Flynn began dating Comparetto in early 2014; a wedding date has not yet been set. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Review: Former Guiding Light co-stars Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman shine in Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera's 'Gypsy'
"It's not just a gimmick to stoke box-office interest. Their long history of working together allows Newman and Zimmer to play well off each other. Newman's Herbie is Rose's laid-back aider and abettor. He's good humored and warm until pushed past endurance. Zimmer is dynamic and energized throughout this three-hour musical, never letting go of her objective from her opening number 'Some People' to the emotional 'Rose's Turn' that is the show's true finale."

Actresses in ‘Hamilton’ Take a Trip to a Family Home for a History Lesson
The visitors were the three actresses who play the Schuyler sisters in “Hamilton,” the musical that opens in previews on Broadway on Monday. It tells the story of the nation’s founding with a particular emphasis on Alexander Hamilton, who was, among other things, the nation’s first treasury secretary.

“This is like a soap opera,” said former One Life to Live actress Renée Elise Goldsberry, who plays Angelica Schuyler Church. “Believe me. I was on one.”

So was the day's guide, Patricia Sanftner Sanftner, behind the scenes.

It was One Life to Live, and Sanftner worked in the wardrobe department in the 1990s.

Former One Life to Live actor Teddy Sears joins The Flash
Sears has been cast as Jay Garrick, who is well known to comic book fans as the first DC Comics character to take on the mantle of The Flash. In the TV show, Jay is a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.

Former The Bold and the Beautiful actress Maitland Ward wears nothing but green body paint as she strips naked for Star Trek costume at Comic-Con
On her Instagram page she describes herself as a 'Cosplay Queen' - the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book or video game, particularly one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.

EastEnders' June Brown refuses to go part time insisting "I'll play Dot till I’m in my 90s!"
"The producers are very conscious of the demands of the schedule, and quietly suggested they could limit the amount of time she needs to spend on set. June has just come back from a break after the very demanding murder trial storyline which saw her take center stage for hours of television, but she's as raring to go as ever."

Coronation Street's Deirdre Barlow will be laid to rest tonight as viewers get ready for another tear-jerker
The funeral of one of Coronation Street's longest-running characters, Deirdre Barlow, will be shown on the soap tonight.

Hollyoaks to host its first ever gay pride festival to mark 20th anniversary
Hollyoaks residents will celebrate 20 years of the show in October with a birthday week featuring the show's first ever gay pride festival, a white-water Indiana Jones style pursuit – and the revelation of the gloved-hand killer.

Cady McClain Updates Fans on Her Status at 'The Young and the Restless'

Cady McClain
Cady McClain posted a Facebook update on her status with The Young and the Restless. McClain revealed things are "about to get really, really intense on the air shows." She added

I'll tell you what. I'm going to level with you. It's been a very hard few weeks. A LOT has been going on. When the time comes to talk more about it, I will. I promise.

Right now all I can say is it's about to get really, really intense on the air shows. And it's worth watching. It's like nothing I've ever acted or been involved with story-wise before.

I totally understand that the character of "Kelly" drives some people crazy. But please remember, I am just the actress.
I'm glad to occasionally be given the opportunity to entertain you, whether it's on Y&R or elsewhere. And if you love the character or hate her, it's all good. Maybe just don't tag me when you hate on her, please, because my work means something to me. I hold the characters I get to create close to my heart. Maybe that's "over-sensitive" of me but I don't know how else to be without turning into a hard woman. And I'm already tougher than I want to be.
