Gail O'Grady & Jeff Kober Join CMT's 'His Wives & Daughters'

Gail O'Grady
Emmy Award-nominee Gail O'Grady (NYPD Blue, Revenge, American Dreams) and Jeff Kober (The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy) have joined the cast for the upcoming CMT pilot His Wives & Daughters. The two join previously-announced cast member Jane Seymour in the one-hour comedic series centering on the eclectic and cunning wives and daughters of larger-than-life country music legend and infamous womanizer, Eddie Ray Banks. The pilot kicks-off when Eddie's estranged family is brought together unexpectedly, causing tempers to flare and old rivalries to resurface, setting the stage for startling secrets to emerge as an unforgettable mystery begins to unfold.

O'Grady plays Donna Banks, Eddie's vain and materialistic second wife who worked with him on his 1970s variety show and then stole him away from first wife, Lorna (Seymour). She has a codependent relationship with her daughter Carolyn.

Kober portrays Eddie Banks, the charismatic country music legend who became a crossover sensation in the 70s with a No. 1 album and hit movie, in addition to his television variety show. His tabloid-worthy personal life and relationships contributed to his fame just as much as his work achievements. In a career spanning almost 50 years Eddie always had a big heart, but his good intentions were ruined by hard-living.

Production on His Wives & Daughters is scheduled to begin this January and additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Now one of the most famous women in country music, Lorna has her own successful theater in Branson and is slightly out of touch with reality as a result of being in the public eye for so long. She and Eddie have one daughter together, April, but Lorna hasn't spoken to her since April published a salacious tell-all memoir.

'Nashville' Getting Picked Up By CMT?

Nashville made find a new home on CMT.
Last month, ABC announced that it was not renewing primetime soap opera Nashville for a fifth season, and began promoting the Season 4 finale as the "series finale." But producer Lionsgate TV had a different idea, and continued shopping the show to other networks. Based on new reports in local newspaper The Tennessean and entertainment outlets like Variety, it looks like the production company is about to strike a deal with cable network CMT for a new season, and possibly more.

If finalized Wednesday, a deal could be announced during the CMT Music Awards, which broadcast live that night.

Most of the Nashville characters received happy ending during the finale in May. Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten) reunited with their emancipated daughter, Maddie (Lennon Stella). Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and Scarlett (Clare Bowen) shared a passionate reunion kiss on stage. Will (Chris Carmack) was headed toward a possible reunion with Kevin, and had come to terms with being the face of a cause and using his celebrity to make a difference. It looked like Avery (Jonathan Jackson) was also about to reunite with Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) but he learned, in the final scene, that her plane possible went down 90 miles west of Nashville.

Last month on a call with press, Lionsgate’s head of TV, Kevin Beggs, said they have “long-term deals with the cast,” though as the CMT renewal is not yet official, returning cast members have not been announced. Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are on board as showrunners for Season 5, as the duo was attached before the show was cancelled at ABC.

Cynthia Cidre on Potential Networks to Air 'Dallas': "There Are A Lot of Possibilities"

Cynthia Cidre, the showrunner of TNT's Dallas, revealed new information in a Yahoo TV interview regarding the potential future of the series, recently canceled by TNT after three seasons. Netflix or other streaming services were thought by some to be the perfect place for Dallas to continue but foreign deals in place for the show take them out of the equation.

"A streaming service is not compatible with our foreign deals, unfortunately, because those deals are all very profitable, and the rest of the world loves Dallas," Cidre explained. "So I think we're looking at cable. There's CMT, there's Reelz, there's WGN, there are a lot of possibilities."

Viewership numbers for Dallas decreased for TNT over three seasons but the audience that still watches is very loyal, and that makes a difference.

"We may only get 3.3 million [viewers] or something, but those are people you can count on and who will find it if it moves to a different network," said Cidre. "You don't even have to do this massive advertising. It's not like a casual fan who drops in and enjoys the show for three weeks and then decides they're going to go watch something else."

A "Save Dallas" petition created by fans currently has over 76,000 signatures. Sign it here.
