Former Star Kathleen Turner Says 'The Doctors' "No Longer Exists, For Which We Can All Be Thankful"

Oscar-nominated actress does not mince words about her days acting on NBC soap opera The Doctors in her new book, "Kathleen Turner on Acting: Conversations about Film, Television, and Theater," co-written with Dustin Morrow.

In a long exchange with Morrow about her time on the soap Turner explained, "I was a regular on The Doctors. Which no longer exists, for which we can all be thankful. It was just a very run-of-the-mill soap opera. My character was so incredibly dumb that at a certain point I just couldn’t figure out how to justify the words that came out of her mouth, so I just asked the writers to make her a drunk."

Turner revealed the last straw for her with the soap.

"I'll tell you the breaking point for me on The Doctors," she wrote. "I remember this like it was yesterday. I was doing a scene where I was giving birth, after a four-month pregnancy of course, and I had researched the process and learned lamaze breathing and everything. After the first take the director, who was a man of course, came up and said, 'You're doing great, I can really feel what you're going through. But can you just be a little more . . . ummm . . . attractive?' 'Attractive.' While giving birth. That was it for me."

Wife of Late 'Guiding Light' Star Tom O'Rourke Releases Book About Years of Cheating, Reconnecting After His Death

In April, Marcy O'Rourke, the longtime wife of former Guiding Light star Thomas O'Rourke released a book about his life, "Bedeviled: The Strange Life and Death of Actor Tom O'Rourke".

According to the book, O’Rourke led a double life, secretly cheating on his wife for 35 years. He was a wonderful husband and father, who told himself everybody cheats, but in fact, he had a sex problem that destroyed his career, his happiness, and finally took his life. When he passed away, he could not rest in peace, so he came back to confess his true story the only way he could: paranormally.

O'Rourke starred on Guiding Light from 1977 to 1983 as Dr. Justin Marler, the biological father of Phillip Spaulding and Ross Marler's brother. He died on September 13, 2009, during the final week Guiding Light was on the air.

"This is the true story of the lies, false hopes and suffering of a cheater that had to be told so Tom could rest in peace," Ms. O'Rourke writes in the prologue of the book. "It's so astonishing, it sounds like ficiton, but it's all absolutely true."

Check it out on Amazon here.

'The Young and the Restless' Star Eric Braeden Visits 'CBS This Morning' on April 17

The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden will appear on CBS This Morning to discuss his book, “I’ll Be Damned” on Monday, April 17. CBS This Morning airs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET/PT.

Here's how publisher HarperCollins describes Braeden's memoir:

In this startling candid and poignant memoir, the legendary Emmy Award-winning star of The Young and The Restless, America's #1 soap opera, chronicles his amazing life, from his birth in World War II Germany to his arrival in America to his rise to humanitarian and daytime superstar for the past thirty-five years.

For nearly four decades, fans have welcomed the star of television’s number-one daytime show, The Young and the Restless, into their living rooms. While they’ve come to know and love the suave Victor Newman, few truly know the man behind the character, the supremely talented Eric Braeden. I'll Be Damned is his story—a startling and uplifting true tale of war, deprivation, determination, fame, and social commitment that spans from Nazi Germany to modern Hollywood.

Braeden’s journey from a hospital basement in Kiel to the soundstages of Los Angeles has taught him more about joy, heartbreak, fear, dignity, loss, love, loneliness, exhilaration, courage, persecution, and profound responsibility to the global community than he could have hoped to learn in several lifetimes. Growing up in the years after Germany’s defeat, Braeden knew very little about the atrocities of his parents’ generation, until he arrived in America as a teenager—a discovery that horrified and transformed him. Trying to redress the wrongs of his homeland, he has dedicated his life to humanitarian work—even forming the German American Culture Society—working for decades to show the world that what we share as humans is far more important than what separates us from one another.

Told with openness, candor, humor, heart, and occasional raw vulnerability, I’ll Be Damned reveals a man committed to making the world a better, more loving place. Filled with sixteen pages of photos from his decorated life and career, I’ll Be Damned will be a treasured keepsake for Y&R fans, and is an inspiring testament to the goodness within us all.

Book Recommendation: Agnes Nixon's 'My Life to Live'

I normally wouldn't make a book recommendation only three chapters into a read, but there's a new release that will be the exception to that rule. "My Life to Live: How I Became the Queen of Soaps When Men Ruled the Airwaves" was released last week, and so far it's as fascinating as you might expect. Agnes Nixon's memoir takes readers on a journey through her trailblazing rise to the top of the television industry, including behind-the-scenes stories from some of the most beloved soaps of all time. Featuring a foreward to All My Children superfan Carol Burnett, "My Life to Life" starts with Nixon looking back on her family, absent father, and life in Nashville. I can't wait to read more, and highly recommend you read along with me. You can order on Amazon here.

Linda Gray Shares Her Story in "The Road to Happiness Is Always Under Construction" Out September 8

When Dallas icon Linda Gray was 20 years old, a magazine editor coldly rejected her as a model, writing that, perhaps one day, “you might shape into something.” Since then, Linda has been evolving and growing, and has shaped into a role model for women of every age in her grace, beauty, generosity, and wisdom. She’s been through more pain and tragedy than her longtime fans realize, having suffered paralyzing polio as a child, growing up with an alcoholic mother, landing in a emotionally abusive marriage at twenty-two and living by her husband’s rules for sixteen years before she openly rebelled against him to take an acting class. At thirty-eight, Linda got her big break, as Larry Hagman’s wife on Dallas. With fame came a bitter, public divorce, trouble at home with her two kids, and the loss of her beloved sister to breast cancer. Linda got through it all—the challenges of sexism in Hollywood and the pressures of being a single working mom—with a relentlessly positive attitude that kept her cruising, with a few speed bumps, to the place of serenity she thrives in now.

To celebrate her 75th birthday, Linda is opening up about her life for the first time. In her new book, "The Road to Happiness Is Always Under Construction," she tells deeply personal stories with wit, humor, and candor, and reveals how she’s learned to love every day as the blessing it is and to treat herself with the kindness she bestows on friends and strangers alike. Along with wisdom, Linda has accumulated a lot of practical tips about maintaining a healthy lifestyle—how to strengthen and detoxify your body, liberate your mind, and uplift your soul—and shares them as well. Her message to “give, love, and shine, baby, shine” will fill anyone with inspiration to live life to the fullest, and never stop pursuing honesty and joy.

Linda Gray is an award-winning actress, an accomplished director, a former United Nations Ambassador, and one of the world’s most recognized and admired stars. Her portrayal of Sue Ellen Ewing, in the original TV series Dallas, brought her international fame and critical acclaim. The role also earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Actress, numerous international awards, and she was voted ‘Woman of the Year’ by The Hollywood Radio & Television Society. After eleven years as the #1 show on television, Dallas returned on TNT and ran for three seasons. She has appeared in numerous TV movies and series such as Melrose Place and The Bold and the Beautiful, as well as starring in theater productions on Broadway and in London's West End. On Monday she guest-starred on CW's Significant Mother. Last week, she appeared in the premiere of web drama Winterthorne.

"The Road to Happiness Is Always Under Construction" will be released on September 8, 2015. Gray will be appearing on Hallmark Channel's Home & Family on Thursday, September 10 to discuss the book.

In case you missed it, watch the Winterthorne series premiere below feature Linda Gray's fabulous guest appearance.

'Days of our Lives' Executive Producer Ken Corday to Appear at BookCon in NYC on May 30

Days of our Lives executive producer Ken Corday will be signing his latest novel, "Ladies of the Lake," at BookCon in New York City this Saturday, May 30 from 12-1 p.m.

About "Ladies of the Lake":
Getting away with murder. Seems unlikely, but in the gated community of Avalon it’s what’s in style.

It all starts with Hudson’s accidental decapitation. It was a terrible accident. He was drunk and in the middle of a fight with his second wife. They both pressed the garage door button at the same time. The LAPD didn’t give it a second thought. Instead of grieving, his wife breathes free air again. She is a rich woman with freedom. The other wives secretly envy her.

From the outside, Avalon seems like the ideal place to live; full of rich men and beautiful women. Six couples form a close-knit friendship; the men all golf together, the women all shop together, and their six children all skip school together. But the wives begin to resent feeling like possessions and realize that the men become crueler every day.

When more husbands start dying, the so-called “Ladies of the Lake” find themselves under suspicion from the LAPD and their own children.

The six children try to uncover their parents’ secrets before the handsome Detective Daniels can discover what is truly going on behind closed gates.

The latest novel from Days of our Lives star Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) was released today. The Hyperion published "Scared Scriptless" tells the story of Maddy Carson, whose life is a mass of contradictions. She loves her job as Script Supervisor on a hit TV show, but hates "Hollywood."

Could Wolf County, her beloved hometown in the mountains, be saved from a financial crisis by creating a reality show featuring the eccentrics in the small ski village? Maddy is determined to try, even when she learns that Craig's agenda doesn't exactly line up with her altruistic goal.

Meanwhile, Maddy still has a full-time job to manage, her family to deal with, and a gorgeous new actor, Adam Devin, determined to wear down her resistance. Eventually Maddy must learn to break all her self-imposed rules and simply follow her heart.

Alison Sweeney: Sami Brady 'Won't Just Vanish Into The Night' on 'Days of our Lives'

Alison Sweeney talks about her upcoming exit from Days of our Lives as Sami Brady as well as her new book, "Scared Scriptless," in a new interview with TV Guide Magazine. Sweeney taped her final episode of Days on May 23rd and is happy the door is being left open for Sami's return.

"She won't just vanish into the night," Sweeney explains. "I had no say over what they wrote, so my only leverage with [executive producer] Ken Corday was to promise that I'll come back to the show if someone gets married or dies, or for Christmas or the 50th. I could not handle it if I was not there for the show's 50th anniversary next year. I very much wanted that door left open and Gary Tomlin wrote a great send-off story that allows that to happen. I will always be a Days champion. I hope Salem is still here in five years and that there's still a job for me. I want that town to be around forever."

"Scared Scriptless" will be released on June 3rd.

"Secret Storms: A Mother and Daughter, Lost then Found"

In a memoir titled "Secret Storms: A Mother and Daughter, Lost then Found," Julie Mannix von Zerneck (Wendy Porter, The Secret Storm; April Morrison, The Best of Everything; Heather Turner, General Hospital) and Kathy Hatfield recount the stories of their lives. Julie is the mother of actress Danielle von Zerneck, who starred on GH in the early 1980s as Lou Swenson. Hatfield was a fan of the soap and had no idea she was watching an actress that was actually her sister.

A pregnant, upper class nineteen-year-old Philadelphia Main Line debutante is confined, against her will, to a state mental hospital. She spends her pregnancy surrounded by the mentally challenged and the criminally insane. On April 19, 1964, she gives birth to a child, whom she is forced to give up for adoption.
A loving middle-class couple adopts a month-old little girl from Catholic Charities. She is adored and cherished from the very beginning. It is as though she is dropped into the first chapter of a fairy tale—but we all know how fairy tales go.

This is the story of a mother and daughter. Of what it is to give up a child and what it is to be given up. Of what it is to belong, what it is to be a family and what it is to yearn deeply, and to never lose hope--because anything is possible.

NEWS: REVENGE Graphic Novel, GAME OF THRONES Trailer, Why the Anthology Series is All the Rage

ABC's REVENGE soap opera spills into graphic novel
The graphic novel takes place years before Emily took the guise of a wealthy Hamptons socialite in the first Revenge episode, and the 19-year-old goes on her first mission in Switzerland after training under her Japanese sensei, Takeda.

"The parts of the history we're bursting to tell is the origin of the woman you see that shows up in the pilot, as differentiated from the girl who was thrown into (juvenile detention) when her dad was taken from her," says REVENGE executive producer Sunil Nayar.

Hardcover graphic novel "Revenge: The Secret Origin of Emily Thorne," is coming out Sept. 3 from Marvel Comics. The book is written by Erica Schultz and TV series scribe Ted Sullivan, with art by Vincenzo Balzano and Dustin Nguyen.

TRUE DETECTIVE, AMERICAN HORROR STORY and Why the Anthology Series is All the Rage
Anthologies tell shorter stories with set end points. Reality TV competitions may be able to crown a winner after a few months, but a narrative can't be as perfunctory with its arcs and twists. There's the hope among showrunners that the third act of a season can now be a more fully realized anchor of their vision than ever before. Shows canceled at the end of or middle of a season don't have this luxury, and we've all seen plot-heavy series that have had to keep their ultimate finale in sight but always at a distance. What if the end were to come quicker, and at a point everyone's aware of from the start?

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL And Pan MacMillian Strike Deal For Books Based On The Show

An Australian publisher has acquired the global rights to bring the lives and loves of the American daytime drama THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL from the small screen to the page. Two novellas, based on the long running soap, will be published in February by Pan Macmillan and its digital first imprint Momentum ("Forbidden Affair" and "Collision Course"). Another two will follow in April, and two more in June. This is the first time Pan and Momentum have collaborated.

Pan Macmillan is betting on a large cross over between romance readers and dedicated THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL fans. Established romance writers Amy Andrews, from Brisbane, and Shannon Curtis, of Sydney, have written the new love stories featuring the show's signature characters. All storylines are vetted by THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL showrunner Bradley Bell, who granted the franchise earlier this year.

“Love stories that have yet to be seen on television can now fully ignite between the covers of these novels,” said Bell. “This partnership with Pan Macmillan and Momentum expands the choices our fans have to be entertained by the signature characters of THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.”
