'Looks Like Christmas' Premieres December 4 on Hallmark Channel, Stars Anne Heche

Anne Heche, who won a Daytime Emmy Award for her portrayal of twins Vicky and Marley on NBC soap opera Another World in 1991, leads the cast of Looks Like Christmas, a Hallmark Channel Original Movie premiering Sunday, December 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

In the holiday film, Carol (Heche) is an over-involved mother, but nothing compares to the holiday season when Carol goes over the top spearheading her kid's school’s Christmas Spectacular each year. She has earned the nickname Christmas Carol among the parents and faculty. All that changes the day Terry (Dylan Neal) moves to town with his teenage daughter. Also single, Terry is also very fond of the holiday himself—having volunteered to mount the Christmas play each year at his daughter's former school. Carol tries to politely tell the single dad his help won’t be necessary but he has no intention of stepping aside.

The tug-of-war turns into something of a rumble, and it becomes clear neither of these parents are willing to work together. With the competition clearly drawn in the sand, the dueling parents set out to outdo one another in creating the most memorable Christmas spectacular ever. The pressure is on to make this the best Christmas ever as it’s anybody’s guess if “Christmas Carol” will live up to her moniker or if newly titled “Terry Christmas” will become the new holiday hero. Carol and Terry will ultimately learn the error of their ways and put aside their differences and learn they have a lot more in common as an unexpected romance begins to bloom.

WATCH: Anne Heche On THE TALK

ANOTHER WORLD alum Anne Heche visited THE TALK on Thursday and talked about her home life and new movie That's What She Said, directed by Carrie Preston, out today.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: TRUE BLOOD's Carrie Preston On Being a Hyphenate and Directing-Producing 'That's What She Said'

TRUE BLOOD and THE GOOD WIFE star Carrie Preston
directed and produced the film That's What She Said,
out October 19 - Photo: Josh Williams
Georgia native Carrie Preston is a familiar face to television, film and theater audiences.  The multi-talented actress-director-producer stars in TRUE BLOOD, is returning to THE GOOD WIFE this season, and guesting on PERSON OF INTEREST.  She also has multiple films in the works where she will lend her acting talents.  Her latest project, the new film That's What She Said, finds her working behind the scenes serving as a producer and director.

That's What She Said tells the story of Bebe (LIPSTICK JUNGLE's Marcia DeBonis) and DeeDee (Daytime Emmy winner Anne Heche), best friends with different relationship problems, who embark on a New York City misadventure with their new acquaintance, Clementine (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT's Alia Shawkat).  We Love Soaps caught up with Preston this week to talk about the film, which hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles and on demand platforms on October 19.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Our mutual friend, Julie Ann Emery, let me know about the film and introduced us.  That woman can do it all!
CARRIE PRESTON:  I feel like I've found my kindred spirit.  We were sort of assigned as friends by Marcia DeBonis, who plays one of the leads in the film.  Marcia has been saying to me, "you have to be friends with Julie Ann."  And saying the same thing to Julie Ann.  Finally, Marcia started this group, we call ourselves "The Hyphenates," seven women who wear different hats like writer-director or actor-casting director.  It's like we were cast by Marcia to be women supporting women in the industry.  We are all rallying behind each other's projects.  It has turned out to be an extraordinary group of women.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: The trailer for That's What She Said looks great! I've been a fan of Anne Heche since she started on ANOTHER WORLD when I was 17 years old. The part where she's brushing her teeth while smoking was hysterical. That scenario never even occurred to me before.

FLASHBACK: Anne Heche 1998

ANNE HECHE'S CAREER HASN'T BEEN HURT BY HER LIFE WITH ELLEN

By Mal Vincent
Chicago Tribune
February 12, 1998

"People kept saying that I was going to lose my career. Not one person, with the exception of Ellen and her mother, said to me, `Don't worry about that. You're in love.' We have been taught to live a lie in order to stay out of trouble. Between a career and the love of my life, the choice is not a difficult one. I didn't even have to think twice."

This is Anne Heche talking about, (what else?), her now-famous love affair with TV actress Ellen DeGeneres. In New York for the premiere of her current hit Wag the Dog, Heche vowed that she wasn't pursuing the subject, but she also is not shy about it. "Ellen and I `came out' on the Oprah Winfrey show in front of 15 million people. I didn't want any rumors. I didn't want to hide. I'm in a much happier relationship, more fun, more meaningful, than ever in my life. Now we've made it public. Now leave us alone."

COMMENTS FROM THE PANEL:
Nelson Aspen: Discovered by EP John Whitesell and plucked from midwestern obscurity, Annie came to the Brooklyn studios of AW a chubby teenager and they worked her like a Trojan! (Soaps will do that with cheap, new talent...especially when they have to pay them two salaries for playing twins!) No one ever played more convincingly different dual roles than Anne...Marley and Vicky were absolutely two different characters and at their best when they weren't trying to impersonate one another. Anne worked more days and longer hours than anyone else on that show, with more dialogue and hair/makeup/wardrobe changes and, as wildly as she could party after hours, was the most disciplined young actor Ive ever known. Her tireless efforts off-camera absolutely paid off on screen. I still contend, even though her film career was eclipsed by the Ellen Degeneres affair, that she is one of entertainment's most talented leading ladies. I hope she'll eventually become the major star she deserves to be!
