NEWS: Stephen Schnetzer, Justin Hartley, BethAnn Bonner, Andy Cohen, Jason Priestley, Aiden Turner

Would The Young and the Restless star Justin Hartley make a good new MacGyver?
Alan Carter thinks he would. "Not only does Hartley look a little like Richard Dean Anderson but he’s got the soap opera hunk thing down pat," he writes. CBS is reportedly re-booting the popular '80s series.

Stephen Schnetzer
Another World alum Stephen Schnetzer set for "Broken Glass" in Westport
Schnetzer will soon appear at the Westport Country Playhouse in Arthur Miller's play, "Broken Glass."

In between work on television and in the theatre, Schnetzer does voiceover work. "It's a good income stream so I could do develop my craft," he says. He even did commercials in French, including one for Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. "I enjoy that anonymity especially because some people know me from soap operas...I didn't want that facial recognition. It's the most competitive challenging part for performers because there are so many good voices and material out there. It's highly competitive. Sometimes I get lucky. I roll the dice. I get an income stream. It pays residuals. And its gets me out of the house."

Andy Cohen on his Real Housewives franchise: "I think the show has replaced the soap opera"
"You never know what’s going to happen, as unreal as it seems," Cohen says. "It’s sometimes fun to laugh at, other times to laugh with. Even though these women don’t behave like you or I might, there’s something weirdly relatable, about friendship and marriage and motherhood, that connects with people."

All My Children alum Aiden Turner welcomes first child with girlfriend Jessica Miller

Andy Cohen: 'The Housewives Have Replaced the Modern Soap Opera in a Way for a Lot of People'

Watch What Happens: Live host and Real Housewives executive producer Andy Cohen appeared on CBS This Morning yesterday to promote his latest book, "The Andy Cohen Diaries."

Working as a programming executive at Bravo, Cohen became the brainchild behind one of the most talked-about reality shows on television, The Real Housewives franchise. Inspired by scripted soap operas of yesteryear, the Housewives series has become the modern-day serial broadcast drama.

"I think the Housewives have replaced the modern soap opera in a way for a lot of people," Cohen said. "Scripted soap operas, there's only a couple on the air now, and truth is stranger than fiction, which is part of the reason that I love my book, actually."

There's a grain of truth in what he says but "a couple" of soaps left? Eileen Davidson and Wally Kurth star in a couple of daytime soaps, each.

Daytime dramas have become too reliant on cliched stories from the past, like "Who's the Daddy?" tales that can also be found on trashy talk shows like Maury Povich or Bill Cunningham. There is a unique and fascinating level of depth that can be achieved with five dramatic hours a week but daytime writers mostly just scratch the surface of stories these days, taking away what makes the genre unique, and it's most powerful tool to draw in viewers.

Speaking of Davidson, she finally makes her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills debut tonight. Will there be more drama in this hour than Ashley Abbott has seen on The Young and the Restless since her full-time return in September? Sadly for Y&R fans, that's possible.

Check out a RHOBH sneak peek below of Davidson's lunch with former Days of our Lives co-star Lisa Rinna. There's a Peter Barton reference (without mentioning his name) and a brief but great 1994 Days flashback.

Susan Lucci On ALL MY CHILDREN Lesbian Storyline: 'I Was Thrilled To Be Part Of It'

Appearing on Bravo's WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE on July 18, Susan Lucci was asked how she felt about Bianca's (Eden Riegel) coming out storyline on ALL MY CHILDREN.

“The storyline was presented to me by our executive producer at that time. She called me into her office and we both just sat there with tears because it sounded like it was going to be such a great storyline, and it was,” Lucci said. “She told me that a lot of gay kids, and even gays in their 20s, they would rather commit suicide than come out to their parents. And I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, if I can be part of a storyline here that would help one person feel good about themselves, and be who they really are, and know that their parents can love them anyway – they just have to be themselves. I was thrilled to be part of it.”

“That storyline really had a lot of impact, I'm very proud and happy to say,” she added.

Wanda Sykes was Andy Cohen's other guest that night.
