'Anacostia' Creator Anthony Anderson on Adding Elizabeth Hubbard to the Cast: "It's Going to Knock People's Socks Off"

Anacostia's Anthony Anderson, Marion Akpan and Melan Perez.
I spent Friday and Saturday at the inaugural Brooklyn Web Fest that was held at the Made in NY Media Center by IFP in DUMBO. Co-founders Noah Ash, Amanda D'Aquila and Kit Williamson created a fantastic event for content creators which included screenings, classes and panels. I was honored to be on the board for the event, and to appear on the "Building Social Communities" and "Be your own damn publicist!" panels. BKWF ended on Saturday evening with an awards ceremony and cocktail reception. Anacostia, a multiple Indie Series Award winner and now a Daytime Emmy winner, was named Best Ensemble. I was able to speak with creator and star Anthony Anderson, along with cast members Marion Akpan and Melan Perez about the show, and what's ahead.

The Anacostia team was especially excited about the upcoming addition of Emmy winner Elizabeth Hubbard (Lucinda on As the World Turns, Althea on The Doctors) to the cast. Her former As the World Turns daughter, Martha Byrne (who played Lily Walsh Snyder), made her directorial debut in Hubbard's scenes, which will air later this fall.

"When the fans and viewers see the show, they are going to be so surprised at the character she is doing," Anderson said.

Anderson raved about working with the daytime legend.

"It was amazing," he said. "It was a dream come true. When I pulled up, she was outside blocking herself, a true sign of a legend. To hear her speak those lines that Martha and I created was amazing. It's going to knock people's sock's off."

"I loved her as Lucinda," Akpan added. "She's dynamic, and she's going to do new things in Anacostia. We're coming back with a vengeance!"

Watch our interview below, which was shot outside Brooklyn Web Fest, just in front of the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge.

'The Doctors' and 'As the World Turns' Star Elizabeth Hubbard Joins 'Anacostia'; Martha Byrne Working on Hubbard DocuStory

Elizabeth Hubbard
Daytime legend Elizabeth Hubbard, who created the iconic characters of Dr. Althea Davis on The Doctors and Lucinda Walsh on As the World Turns, has joined the cast of Indie Series Award-winning drama Anacostia. Hubbard will debut this fall as Eva Montgomery.

“We are incredibly excited to have the amazing Elizabeth Hubbard join us for Anacostia this year," says creator and star Anthony Anderson. It was so hard keeping such a huge secret from the loyal viewers of the series. Ms. Hubbard is a legend and is one of the true architects of Daytime Drama. This is a dream come true. The episodes are gripping and compelling and I am sure will be a treat for all of Ms. Hubbard’s fans to see her again doing what she loves.

NEWS: Elizabeth Dennehy to Y&R; John Brother Joins Fast & Furious 7; Emily VanCamp; Amell Wednesdays; Andy Mientus; ANACOSTIA is DC's Soap Opera

Elizabeth Dennehy coming to THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Dennehy is coming to Y&R to play the role of Laura Flannery on October 18 and share scenes with Ignacio Serricchio (Alex). She previously starred in GUIDING LIGHT joining the cast in 1988 as the first grown up Chrissy, who went by the name Blake. She left the show a year later when Sherry Stringfield took over the role.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE alum John Brotherton joins cast of Fast & Furious 7
Brotherton and Kurt Russell join a cast that includes Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Lucas Black and franchise rookies including Jason Statham and Djimon Hounsou.

Revenge's Emily VanCamp on Emily Thorne and Season 3
"I think one of the things that we need to figure out is how the Graysons get their power back. Because one of the things about Season 1 that people really loved was that Emily’s taking down the 1%. And now that the Graysons are broke, it’s very hard to sympathize with her. So hopefully we get that back on track, and also really define these relationships with her men. It’s very complicated, and very twisted, but that’s sort of what I love about it.

NEWS: NFL GAME OF THRONES Logos; Alicia Minshew; SCANDAL Impacting Fashion; Cynthia Nixon; ANACOSTIA on NPR

See every NFL team reimagined as a GAME OF THRONES house
The NFL season kicked off on Thursday on continues with a full slate of games on Sunday. Reddit user Tim Proby created GAME OF THRONES-style sigils for all 32 teams. "The NFL and GAME OF THRONES both have drama and fan reaction that you don't see anywhere else in entertainment," Proby, who plans to continue tweaking the images, tells Co.Create. "The passion of both fanbases is equal."

Alicia Minshew approached to " tape a few episodes" of ALL MY CHILDREN for season finale but it didn't happen
"I was approached by Ginger to tape a few episodes at the end, a fun little thing that would be part of the season finale. I said, 'Sure, I’ll do it.' But that taped a long time ago, so I guess I’m not a part of the finale [laughs]. I get it, things happen."

Today in Soap Opera History (March 26)

On this date in...

1967: On ANOTHER WORLD, Ada mentioned having been married to “Lou”, which was probably the original name for the character of Gerald Davis, Rachel's father.

1968: The first episode of DARK SHADOWS that was directed by Dan Curtis aired. Nathan told Naomi that Barnabas was the Strangler.

1973: THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, premiered as a 30-minute soap joining the CBS Daytime lineup. Happy 40th Anniversary, Y&R!

In the episode, Brad Eliot rode back into Genoa City with a trucker, following his accident; in their apartment, Snapper Foster and Sally McGuire talked about their relationship and the fact that Snapper had been dating Chris Brooks; Chris told her sister Leslie that she may be in love with Snapper; at Pierre's restaurant, Snapper waited for Chris' father to meet him for lunch; Brad entered the restaurant and was seated by the waitress, Sally; Chris' father, Stuart, questioned Snapper about his past and his intentions concerning Chris; and Stuart paid Brad's check when Brad admitted to Sally that he had no money. Meanwhile, at a police station, Brad's wife, Barbara, was informed that her husband was dead.

WATCH: ANACOSTIA's Latest Episode "The Power of GoodBye"

ANACOSTIA creator and star Anthony Anderson won the Indie Soap Award for Best Lead Actor for his work in 2010. At this year's ceremony, he was nominated for two awards: Best Lead Actor (Drama) and Best Guest Appearance (Comedy). Based on the events of ANACOSTIA's latest episode, we think he may be trying to convince us to create a Best Stunt Man category. Anderson's Sean, has a fistfight in a creek, and then goes home only to get pulled down a flight of stairs and tossed out of his boyfriend's house. Does this mean the wedding is off?

Watch all the drama unfold below including more than one shocking turn of events.
