Alison Sweeney Returning to 'Days of our Lives' as Sami Brady

Alison Sweeney is returning to NBC soap opera Days of our Lives as Sami Brady, according to the new issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Sweeney played Sami for 21 years, starting in 1993. She is returning to the show next month for an extended visit.

Since leaving Days, Sweeney has been busy with her Murder, She Baked movie series and other projects.

“From my end, it takes a little bit of logistics with projects I’m working on,” she tells Digest. “And unfortunately, this year’s been hard for me because of my knee injury, so I had to push some stuff back. So, I figured out a schedule, blocked out some time that I had available and we figured it out! I’ll be shooting in Salem in May and June.”

'Murder, She Baked: Just Desserts' Set to Premiere March 26

Crime-solving baker Hannah Swensen's first-ever televised bake-off competition is heating up, but when the judges start dropping like fallen soufflés - and one is found dead of very unnatural causes - Hannah discovers two things; this is no cookie-cutter murder, and as the lead judge she might very well be the next victim, in Murder, She Baked: Just Desserts. The new, original movie stars Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami, Days of our Lives) and Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan, All My Children), and premieres Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

Lake Eden, Minnesota's baking queen and The Cookie Jar owner Hannah Swensen (Sweeney) is up to her elbows in a lot more than cookie dough when one of the judges of her first-ever televised bake-off is found dead the night of the semi-finals. And with indications that other judges might be targeted as well, Hannah's knack for crime-solving comes in handy, especially since she is one of the judges and could be the next victim. Together with detective Mike Kingston (Mathison), who she is finally dating after several "strictly sleuthing" adventures, Hannah pulls out all the stops to uncover who killed grumpy high school coach Leonard Bishop (Kurt Evans).

Executive Producers include Brad Krevoy, Stephanie Germain, Jonathan Axelrod, Alan Ett, Susie Belzberg, Eric Jarboe, Amanda Phillips Atkins, Jimmy Townsend, Alison Sweeney and Nancey Silvers. Supervising Producers include Michael Shepard, Doran S. Chandler, K.T. Donaldson, Darcy Wild, Dawn Knight, Nathaniel Lyman, Cameron Mathison and Lorraine Yawney. Murder She Baked: Just Dessserts is produced by Jonathan Schwartz. Kristoffer Tabori directs from a script by Melissa Samuels, based on the Hannah Swensen mysteries series of books by Joanne Fluke. The film is A Shortcake Production, In Association with Brad Krevoy Television & Stephanie Germain Productions.

Murder She Baked: 'A Deadly Recipe' Premieres June 19 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries

Photo Credit: Copyright 2016 Crown Media United States, LLC/Photographer: Katie Yu
Murder, She Baked: A DEADLY RECIPE premieres Sunday,June 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. The film stars Alison Sweeney (Days of our Lives, The Biggest Loser), and Cameron Mathison (All My Children, Entertainment Tonight).

Bakery owner Hannah Swensen (Sweeney) just can't keep her hands out of the batter when murder stirs things up in Lake Eden, Minnesota, leaving the sheriff dead, a deputy accused, and a killer on the loose.

For Hannah, life seems to be lacking a certain flavor lately. Maybe it's the local sheriff's election that's got her down. For years, Sheriff Grant's been the iron hand in town. But now, Hannah's brother-in-law Bill is giving the old blowhard the fight of his long, dubious career - and Grant's not taking it well, especially once the polls show Bill pulling ahead.

But before anyone can taste victory, things go sour. While Hannah's emptying the trash, she makes a very unappetizing discovery: Sheriff Grant's body in the Dumpster behind the high school where she's teaching her cooking class.

And as if that weren't bad enough, the poor man still has fudge frosting on his shirt from one of her cupcakes. The number one - and only - suspect is Bill, but Hannah's not swallowing it.

Plenty of people had reason to hate Sheriff Grant. Soon, Hannah's dishing up scandalous secrets, steaming hot betrayals, and enough intrigue to keep the gossip mill at The Cookie Jar going through several pots of decaf. And the closer Hannah gets to the truth, the closer she gets to finding the murderer with a calorie-laden, nasty recipe for silencing people.

'ET' Sends Cameron Mathison to Interview Soap Opera Stars at the Soap Opera Digest 40th Anniversary Party (Video)

"I had the most preposterous, early '90s hair," Alison Sweeney told
ET's Cameron Mathison.
Earlier this week, ET reporter Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery, All My Children) chatted with daytime stars at Soap Opera Digest's 40th anniversary celebration at the Argyle Hollywood on Wednesday. A few of the actors reminisced about their first time being featured on the cover of the magazine.

Mathison was able to catch up with some of his on-screen hookups at the party.

"We were married, like, twice," Melissa Claire Egan told Mathison, about Ryan and her All My Children character, Annie Lavery.

"I think we were married twice," Rebecca Budig, who played Greenlee Smythe on AMC, said.

"Engaged 18 times," Mathison quipped.

NEWS: Tristan Wilds, Kristen Alderson, Agnes Bruckner, Tony Roberts, Alison Sweeney, Mario Lopez

90210's Tristan Wilds stars in the new Adele music video for "Hello."
"Do You Know Me?": Tony Roberts memoir includes Edge of Night/Larry Hagman stories
Tony Roberts reveals the story of his legendary five-decade career on stage and screen in the new memoir "Do You Know Me?" It became available as a hardcover book through Amazon.Com and an audio book from Audible.com, read by the author himself, on October 6.

A vivid and charming raconteur, Roberts describes his love of acting, the transformative power of theater, and how both were inspired by his ruthlessly innovative teacher Alvina Krause ("The purpose of acting," she said, "is to illuminate and enlighten. The theater is the last, best chance to save the world.") He shares stories of his first major role in the soap opera The Edge of Night with Larry Hagman and his busy days as an in-demand Hollywood actor ("I crack under leisure," Roberts once notably quipped).

Alison Sweeney looks back on Days of our Lives as the soap celebrates 50 years
"I’ve always felt so lucky to have been a part of the Days of our Lives story and the legacy. 50 years is pretty amazing for any broadcast, so to be part of that story and to have been in Salem for so long has always meant a lot to me. I’m very proud to be a part of the 50th celebration."

"I’m on for a couple days this month and a couple days in November. They didn’t want to do just one event, they wanted to make an ongoing spectacle and make it a bigger deal for the 50th."

Indie film thriller House of Last Things to screen at West Slope Library
House of Last Things stars Portland actor Randy Schulman as a music critic with a dark secret who takes a recuperative trip to Italy with his wife. Lindsey Haun (True Blood), RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad), and Blake Berris (Days of our Lives) star as the young house-sitters who soon find themselves drawn into a web of disturbing revelations that cause them to second-guess what is real as they lose themselves to the house. Eschewing gore and cheap scares for mood and surreal imagery, Bartlett's film will linger in the minds of viewers long the credits roll.

ABC trimbs Blood & Oil episode order from 13 to 10
The series will continue to air through the end of the calendar year in its current Sundays at 10 p.m. slot, at least for the time being. Sources say creator Josh Pate's (Moonlight) vision post-pilot never was fully embraced by the network, which was looking for more "OMG" moments a la Scandal. That didn't work with the emotional soap that showrunner Cynthia Cidre (Dallas) and her team had written, which led to Jon Harmon Feldman (Dirty Sexy Money) being brought in to try and create what the network wants. The series — which also underwent numerous recastings — now is said to have two writers rooms, one led by Feldman and the other, featuring Cidre, given little to do.

General Hospital alum Kristen Alderson tweets goodbye to the West Coast
Alderson (ex-Kiki, GH; ex-Star on both GH and One Life to Live) announced she was leaving Los Angeles and moving back to the East Coast: "Goodbye LA & to a beautiful chapter in my life. I'll always love you @duelly87 thank you for being my best friend.💛"

Former The Bold and the Beautiful actress Agnes Bruckner expecting first child
Brucker (ex-Bridget, B&B) is expecting her first child with boyfriend Alefaio Brewer.

Mario Lopez joins Grease: Live
The actor, Dr. Christian Ramirez on Bold and the Beautiful, will play Vince Fontaine on the live musical event.

Shondaland developing Romeo & Juliet sequel series for ABC
A series adaptation of Still Star-Crossed, based on the 2013 book of the same name that picks up after Romeo and Juliet’s tragic ending, has landed at ABC from Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and scribe Heather Mitchell.

Empire Season 2's Latino Factor
With five episodes in, it has become clear that producers and executives have harnessed celebrity cameos and a heavy influence of Latino actors and Latino-themed story lines.

Why Latinos? It makes sense all-around. Apart from the power of the demographic as a whole, most young Hispanics tend to be very in touch with the urban scene of pop culture, both in the mainstream market or the insular Spanish-language landscape. The influences of African-Americans on Latino youth are too clear to question. From music (reggaeton) to movies (watch any Franc. Reyes film), many of young Hispanics identify themselves with what Empire has to offer.

Tyra Banks and Chrissy Teigen's FABLife a ratings disaster
Sources tell Page Six the Disney/ABC daytime talk show won't make it to a second season unless things get more fabulous quickly.

The Wire and 90210 alum Tristan Wilds plays Adele’s lover in her new music video
The director of the "Hello" music video, Xavier Dolan, says of casting Wilds: “This is not about an interracial relationship, but the fact that it is mattered to us. We were excited about that because it feels just normal to say: ‘This is society, this is how we live.’”

Alison Sweeney: "Don’t Worry… Sami’s Coming" on 'Days of our Lives'

Alison Sweeney
Alison Sweeney opened up about her return to Days of our Lives as Sami Brady in new interview with toofab.

"It was heartbreaking," Sweeney reveals. "It was really really an emotional roller coaster. I was so happy to be there and see all of my friends and the crew that I’ve worked with since I was 16 years old, but it was all out on the surface playing out Will’s death… that was really hard for me."

Sweeney admits she truly missed her Days family.

"I missed my friends," she says. "I've known these people that work on the show since I was a kid. It was hard to be away because once you have a different plan, you have different schedules, but it was really fun to be together again."

Sweeney teased that the feisty side her fans know and love will pop up soon.

"Don’t worry… Sami’s coming," she says. "I saw that someone had on twitter ‘#HurricaneSami,’ and that is not an understatement."

Sweeney has enjoyed the new opportunities that have come along since leaving Days.

"I'm really enjoying this process and getting to be home with my kids more and challenging myself in new directions with making these movies and writing my novel which will be out next May," she gushes. "It's been really fun for me to explore these new things."

Ilsa is pretty, but her passion for the nerdy cyber life/work has left her a tad socially awkward and a little quirky. However, Ilsa will blossom."

Is it time to kill "Fall TV"?
Writes Willa Paskin: "We're now four weeks into the network’s fall TV season. By current standards it was not a catastrophe. By real standards, it was hardly a success. Fall TV, in which dozens of shows are introduced to audiences in a matter of weeks, was once an effective and fun way to serve audiences new television shows. It is now ineffective and no fun. For reasons of structure and inertia, having to do with the development process and the selling of advertisements, it probably won’t change anytime soon."

Netflix exec: "There’s no such thing as too much TV"
Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos fired back at FX CEO John Landgraf’s assertion that we’ve reached peak TV. “There’s no such thing as too much TV,” Sarandos said today at an industry luncheon. “Unless we’re all spending more and not watching more. That’s not the case. The number of television [hours] we’re watching is growing dramatically.”

FOX gives a script with penalty commitment to Summer People
Summer People is an hourlong drama from Twisted creator Adam Milch, The Firm and Sony Pictures TV. Written and executive produced by Milch, Summer People is described as provocative drama exploring class and sexuality on a fictional version of Martha’s Vineyard, an island known for the movie stars, politicians and Wall Street power brokers who descend there every summer, disrupting the lives of the blue collar locals. FOX wants $10M Empire lawsuit from "gangsta pimp" tossed
Calling Empire “a modern take on Shakespeare’s King Lear,” lawyers for the network on Thursday filed a motion to dismiss the copyright infringement lawsuit Ron Newt started in April – and the network is going for the jugular.

“Plaintiff claims that the hit Fox network television series Empire is substantially similar to his Works, and asserts claims for copyright infringement and breach of implied contract,” says the October 15 motion, which calls Newt a “self-described ‘gangsta pimp’ ” whose work “include detailed descriptions of cold-blooded killings, dismemberments, and crude descriptions of Plaintiff’s sexual escapades in graphic detail that would never be shown on network television.” Newt calls his tale that of a black man rising with “his three sons from the ghetto and a life of crime into the world of the music industry.”

All My Children alum Melissa Leo to star in Showtime’s I'm Dying Up Here
The Jim Carrey-produced comedy will have Leo play a brassy comedy club owner. She’ll be joined by Sebastian Stan and Clark Duke.

The streaming service has picked up reruns of the scripted drama.

Scandal took on Alessandra Stanley’s “Angry Black Woman” piece, and beautifully dismantled it
In the final few minutes of this week's episode, civil rights activist Marcus Walker, who has now joined the Olivia Pope Associates team as their PR spokesperson, is fed up with all of the coded language that has swirled around Olivia. After a reporter calls her “well-spoken”—a term often applied to “exceptional” black people that carries the implication that most of us speak in fractured Ebonics—he goes all in:

She’s usually so ‘well-spoken’ for a black woman, isn’t that what you meant? I say that because I’ve been looking at the last 72 hours of your station’s news coverage, and when you’re not suggesting Olivia Pope is an angry black woman, you’re implying she’s a homewrecker who slept her way to the top.

Alison Sweeney: Why Nujeen Mustafa inspires us all
Sweeney wrote about her experience with Nujeen for CNN.

"Nujeen wanted to squeal about Sami and EJ, she wanted to tell me about her favorite scenes and how devastated she was when EJ died. She brushed aside the idea that she learned to read and write on her own because she wasn't allowed to go to school. She told me that I taught her to speak English. I apologized for all the curse words."

"I found out later she's been using her language skills to help others from her country communicate in the refugee camps. This incredibly bright girl, who had never been allowed a formal education in Syria, conquered the Internet in a matter of days upon arriving in Germany. She joined Twitter and posted a YouTube video in which she shared her reaction to our conversation and she used it as an opportunity to wish strength, courage and inspiration to others."

"We are trying to make an impact and anything we can do to support it, would be great. Having Caitlyn Jenner or any other transgender model could help to enlighten people. When I started reading about transgender issues, the statistics were something like, three out of five transgender people commit suicide. I think the educational portion is so important. I’m so glad they [the writers] had the stones – as we call it daytime TV so often – to write something like this."
