Alec Baldwin Joins Cast of NBC's 'A Few Good Men'

Former daytime and primetime soap opera star Alec Baldwin, a two-time Emmy winner and Tony Award and Oscar nominee who has been on top of the cultural zeitgeist with his performance as President Donald Trump on "Saturday Night Live," has been cast as Col. Nathan Jessep in NBC's upcoming live "A Few Good Men," from esteemed playwright and Oscar and Emmy winner Aaron Sorkin, who will executive produce and adapt his own play for the broadcast.

Baldwin and Sorkin will join Craig Zadan and Neil Meron as executive producers of "A Few Good Men." Zadan and Meron's "Hairspray Live!" received seven Emmy nominations last week, including Outstanding Special Class Program.

"Alec Baldwin is the gift that keeps on giving at NBC, and we're excited to have him starring in Aaron Sorkin's towering work as we expand our live theater imprint beyond musicals," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. "No stranger to live television, Alec is the most multi-faceted actor in the world and his range is incomparable. He will put his own inimitable stamp on the role of Col. Jessep in a play that is still as surprising and relevant as ever, from one of the most gifted writers working today."

"Alec is one of our greatest actors. Having him play this role - live onstage for a television audience - is a dream come true. This will be a brand new take on Nathan Jessep and I expect that Alec is going to bust through TV screens and right into living rooms," Sorkin said.

NEWS: Lyndon Smith Joins PARENTHOOD; Alec Baldwin MSNBC Show?; REVENGE Season 3 Scoop

Lyndon Smith joins PARENTHOOD
[SPOILER ALERT] Smith will play Natalie, a college classmate to Drew and a potential love interest for the character, played by Miles Heizer. The character is described as attractive and outgoing with a strong sense of herself. She's a freshman, in Drew's class at Berkeley, whom Drew develops a huge crush on. Always in the driver's seat in their relationship, Natalie dictates the terms of their friendship and whether or not it has occasional benefits -- much to Drew's frustration and misunderstanding.

"We really wanted to focus on that first year of college and what that's like for Drew," Katims tells THR. "You think some people set foot on campus and they're just meant to be there, and then [with] some people, it takes a little bit longer to figure that out. And I think for Drew it's definitely the latter, that he struggles a little to try to figure out where he is. I like the idea of there being obstacles for him at college and [having it] not be simple."

Alec Baldwin In Talks For MSNBC Primetime Show
According to a Mediaite source, the so far untitled show will air Fridays at 10 p.m. ET and will feature a large dose of Baldwin’s outspoken liberal politics.

Bauer Media Under Fire Over Pro-Nazi Magazine After Wrap Investigation
Six months after a Wrap investigation exposed pro-Nazi publications by Bauer Media Group, one of the biggest publishing companies in the world, calls are growing to restrict the company's media activities in the United States and Europe.

This week, the Simon Wiesenthal Center called on Germany's interior and justice ministers to investigate the Bauer-owned Der Landser Magazine and called on Amazon and Apple's iTunes to stop selling it.

REVENGE Season 3 Scoop: Sibling Rivalries, New Love Triangles and Aiden Sleeping With [SPOILER ALERT]?!
REVENGE is known for their wicked web of love triangles, but according to Barry Sloane, we're going to know exactly how Emily feels about three three men in her life. "The three guys that she's with, they're going to be really clearly defined now. We're going to know exactly how she feels about Daniel (Josh Bowman), exactly how she feels about Jack and where she is with Aiden," he says.

One thing we know for sure is that Jack and Emily are going to be in terrible terms when we see them this fall. Nick Wechsler tells E!: "It's not good. He's not happy with her and there's a lot of tension as is natural for finding out you've been lied to for two years. If she hadn't lied to him he would've never fallen in love with the wrong girl, and he wouldn't have had a child with her."

THE JACK DONAGHY FILES: Ryan Adams Sings PASSIONS Theme Song

The crew behind 30 ROCK seem to have caught pigskin fever, because the current installment of their animated web series THE JACK DONAGHY FILES finds Alec Baldwin's penny-pinching NBC head honcho trying to find a new Super Bowl half-time performer after Madonna drops out.

Ryan Adams, Michael McDonald and Donald Glover all try out and give it their best shot, despite some hilarious budget-restrictions.

They can't afford to pay for any songs other than the theme for three (yes, only three) former NBC shows. One of them is the theme from PASSIONS ("Breathe") and Ryan Adams sings it after saying, "I always wanted to play a warlock on that show."

Alec Baldwin Responds To Being Thrown Off Flight With Lessons Learned

Former KNOTS LANDING and THE DOCTORS star Alec Baldwin was thrown off an American Airlines flight on Dec. 6 for for playing a Scrabble-like game on his cell phone as the plane was about to depart from Los Angeles. He wrote an apology of sorts for Huffington Post yesterday detailing lessons learned from the experience. Here's an excerpt:

Airlines in the US are struggling with fuel costs, labor costs, bankruptcies, you name it. It's no secret that the level of service on US carriers has deteriorated to a point that would make Howard Hughes red-faced. Filthy planes, barely edible meals, cuts in jet service to less-traveled locations. One of the big changes, in my time, is in the increase of the post-9/11, paramilitary bearing of much of the air travel business. September 11th was a horrific day in the airline industry, yet in the wake of that event, I believe carriers and airports have used that as an excuse to make the air travel experience as inelegant as possible.

NEWS ROUNDUP: Y&R's Michael Muhney On New Y&R Direction, Joan Collins Honored, Netflix/CW Deal

Michael Muhney on the Y&R's casting decisions that "cut the fat"
"There's been talk by journalists, my fellow actors, by fans and by the network that we (THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS) have a rather large cast. What if we streamline the cast and knock off, and this is just an arbitrary number, 10 folks and we really cut the fat off? I think that's happening."

"I want to tell people that I think there's going to be a stronger focus on core characters. I think it's going to take some time, after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas. It's already happening. I can sense that the show is telling stories about more core folks and getting rid of other characters.Yeah, it's losing viewers. It's hemorrhaging viewers at times, and you have to wonder, how do you plug that leak?"

WE LOVE SOAPS TV 3.01 Kim Zimmer Tells All In New Book "I'm Just Sayin'" (Season 3 Premiere)

When Kim Zimmer walked onto the set to tape an interview for the third season premiere of our web series, WE LOVE SOAPS TV, her first words were, "Plaxico!" Host Roger Newcomb and Jets fan Zimmer always start every conversation out with a little football trash talk. The interview itself was all about her career and new book, "I'm Just Sayin': Three Deaths, Seven Husbands, and a Clone! My Life as a Daytime Diva," which is earning rave reviews.

BOOK REVIEW: Alec Baldwin, Crystal Chappell, Oprah & More--Five Juicy Reasons Kim Zimmer's New Tell-all Is for Everyone

"I'm Just Sayin': Three Deaths, Seven Husbands, and a Clone! My Life as a Daytime Diva," by Kim Zimmer (with Laura Morton), goes on sale today. I was introduced to Kim long after GUIDING LIGHT, but although I had never seen Reva Shayne in all her glory, I ended up reading the whole book in one afternoon. Always witty and insightful, and frequently touching, this tell-all really tells all, and it's enjoyable even for non-soap fans. I certainly couldn't put “I'm Just Sayin'' down—here's why:
  1. Lots of tasty tidbits about dozens and dozens of TV and film stars. For example, while she was pregnant, Kim writes, she always knew who she could count on: “If I craved egg-salad sandwiches with dill pickles on white Wonder bread, Alec [Baldwin] would take off for the NBC commissary and return with egg salad in hand!” When she was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey show, after a bit of an, um... misunderstanding, Oprah came around. “In that moment, I realized why Oprah is who she is. She was honest, candid, and real. She apologized, and owned her mistake.”

INTERVIEW: Sam McMurray, Part 1 What's Better than Being a Serial Killer?

If you have watched television or movies in the past 35 years, you likely have seen Sam McMurray in numerous shows and films. Among his many film credits are Raising Arizona, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, L.A. Story, The Wizard, and C.H.U.D. On television he was a featured player on THE TRACEY ULLMAN SHOW, played a recurring role as Chandler's boss on FRIENDS, and appeared in THE KING OF QUEENS, Disney's RECESS, FREAKS AND GEEKS, and THE SOPRANOS. He's even had roles on the daytime soaps THE DOCTORS and RYAN'S HOPE. Now McMurray is bringing his talents to the web with a two-episode arc on hit comedy series THEN WE GOT HELP!

In this new multi-part interview, McMurray shares mememories from his career, and takes us backstage at Indie Soap Award winning THEN WE GOT HELP!

WE LOVE SOAPS TV: How did you end up on THEN WE GOT HELP!?
Sam McMurray: I did a movie last summer with Julie [Ann Emery] up in Nashua, New Hampshire. She played my daughter in it, and we struck it off. We actually have a number of things in common, and she told me about this series, and I thought, oh, okay, webisodes. But of course you know, I'm a dinosaur, and I come back to L.A. and I'm actually with a younger friend who was staying here, and he says, “this show is hysterical,” and so I sat down and watched it—the whole season! All 80 minutes of it. And I laughed my ass off!

Alec Baldwin Remembers James Pritchett

In a new column for the Huffington Post, former THE DOCTORS star Alec Baldwin remembers the late James Pritchett.

Said Baldwin: "Pritchett played my father-in-law on the show. Soap operas are tough to act and tougher to write. How do you come up with something fresh and worthy every day? From Jim, I learned that, whatever the material, just listen and remember your cue. Jim, who in his youth bore an uncanny resemblance to Burt Reynolds, was a true gentleman. In 1997, I cast him in a film I produced called The Confession, with Sir Ben Kingsley. You'd be lucky if someone like Jim was the judge in your courtroom. He was a lovely and talented man."
