"A Tomato Can't Grow in the Bronx" will star Broadway, film and television actress Brooke Shields as Eleanor Abrams, the neurotic, only daughter of Harry, a domineering old school (and fading) Bronx big shot, with dreams of breaking free of her own fears and moving into a home of her own on Long Island, along with her teenage son Elliot and husband Sammy. Joining Ms. Shields and Ms. Strasser (who will play Shield's character's mother Gladys), will be Larry Pine as Harry & Elana Safar as Madeline. Aaron Simon Gross as her son Elliot & Sam Seder as her husband Sammy were cast last week.
Larry Pine is well-known to TV audiences for his roles on OZ, LAW & ORDER, GILMORE GIRLS & most recently, PERSON OF INTEREST, as well as his stint as Roger Gordon on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. He also memorably played Tad Channing on AS THE WORLD TURNS. He can be seen in the films Maid in Manhattan, The Royal Tenenbaums, Dead Man Walking, Woody Allen’s Small Time Crooks & the soon-to-be-released Arbitrage with Richard Gere. Elana Safar has performed at Papermill Playhouse in "Life on Earth," with Laura Benanti & Anne Hathaway, in a workshop of "Hanky Panky" with Tovah Feldshuh, in "Soul Searching: A Rock Musical" as part of NYMF & in the film Chanel Bleu, directed by Martin Scorsese.
Executive Producer Grant stated, "I'm so excited that Robin has agreed to join our cast. This entire reading is filled with people I've always wanted to work with."
