Writers Guild of America West: Had Been Close To A "Fair Deal"

Before today's suspension of efforts to move ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE to the web, Prospect Park had sought a deal with the Writers Guild of America West that would let them hire writers without being obliged to pay the union's minimum salaries for a year. The union had resisted this provision according to a Wall Street Journal story.

"We were disappointed to learn that Prospect Park's financing fell through. Prior to the end of last week, we were close to a fair deal for the writers," a spokesman for the WGA West said in a statement.

The creator of both shows, Agnes Nixon, said on Wednesday she has still has plenty of stories to tell—“if there’s anyone around with money to help.”
