VIDEO: Entire GUIDING LIGHT Emmy Tribute

Michael Fairman has published the entire original four-minute GUIDING LIGHT tribute video that was created for the Daytime Emmy Awards. The clip that aired was a shortened version to save time in the show.

  1. Lord knows we had to make time for Vanessa to sing and dance...a second time! And lord knows I loved Sesame Street as a child but when that guy was talking about being on the air for 40 years I kept thinking big woop just be glad you arent on CBS or they'd cancel you to!

  2. The actual tribute was wonderful I really loved and and shame shame shame on them for not airing it, it was kinda like a final slap in the face to the cast of GL who most of them flew all the way to LA and to their fans.

  3. I could have done without the Red Carpet show and lengthened the actual Emmy broadcast by an hour. That way we could have seen the longer version of the GL tribute AND Bradley Bell's speech.

  4. The Vanessa thing was surely contractual...she has a new album coming out, and they probably got her for cheap by letting her do the second song.

The truth is...painfully...more people have watched Sesame than GL in their lives...

ATI did a fine job with the show...and while there were some problems with run time, I'm happier with the show than I have been in years. It may have been our last Emmy broadcast, and I think it was a more dignified (potential) end than it would have been after last year's ABC debacle.

  8. I think that at least they did the tribute, even though it was short and didn't have more classic clips, but at least they did have a tribute to GL. But the 40th tribute on youtube is so better than this and I feel that this is what we going to get.

  9. Thanks for posting that. Glad to see it in its entirity.

The one that aired was good, albeit short. This one would is much more of a fitting tribute, capturing so many iconic images of the show.

Wish it had aired. And it would have been so very easy to make up the tiem for all 4 minutes of this video to air instead of the 2 minute version we saw.

While Vanessa's second song may have been contractually required, the fashion show could have been cut, the Seasame Street tribute could have been shortened (imagine that!), the Feed the Children tribute could have been shortened.

And the winners could have been instructed to take the stage immediately. Christian J. Le Blanc going over to hug Lee Bell before taking the stage ate up at least 15 seconds. 15 seconds may not seem like a big deal, but that's 15 seconds Brad Bell could have used for this acceptance speech.

And I would have rather seen the end credits roll over Brad Bell's speech than not hear anything of his speech at all.
