8 Ways to Improve your Alexa Ranking

Just how essential is Alexa Ranking for your blog? How a better Alexa ranking will earn you more money? Well it depends who you ask. Personally I never cared for Alexa as I am not a fan of tool bars and the less programs runs in the background in my computer the better. If you run ads in blog or website, a high Alexa ranking will attract more advertisers and the better the ranking the more advertisers will be interested in advertising on your site and you will make money.

Here are 8 ways to improve your Alexa ranking based on tips from friend blogs and some were gathered around the internet. Right now my ranking is 16,966,271 and this blog is just about a week old. I am following these 8 tips and I will give an update to see if these tips works or not. My target is to get under the 1 million mark in 30 days.

Don’t forget that good content will bring audience and visitors regularly that will eventually help your ranking with Alexa but for the meantime try these 8 tips and see for yourself.

1. Install the Alexa toolbar so you help your blog ranking every time you visit your own blog. Do this to all of your computers (home, office, laptop, etc) This is the easiest and most basic step.
2. Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails.
3. Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This is what I’m doing right now.
4. Parade your URL in webmaster/blog and other forums. Webmasters usually have the toolbar installed. You’ll get webmasters to visit your website and offer useful feedback. It’s also a good way to give back to the community if you have useful articles to share with others.
5. Write an article that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domain and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. Promote your content on social networking websites and webmaster forums.
6. Install Alexa widget. Some bloggers say this help them with Alexa ranking but some people say it doesn’t matter whether you have an Alexa widget or not. I guess I have to try it to see if it does work or not.
7. Use Social Networking/Bookmarking sites. This usually brings good numbers of visitors to your website and it will have a positive impact on your Alexa Rank. Naturally, you’ll need to develop a link worthy material. Try Digg, Reddit and Stumble Upon.
8. Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. This acts as an easily accessible resource for webmasters or casual search visitors while helping you rank in the search engines.
