News Brief

Phyllis writes off Sharon on Y&R
Phyllis and Nick hit the skids next week on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, thanks to his ex-wife, Sharon.

"Phyllis calls while they are dealing with Noah and just wants to talk to Nick," says Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis. "But Sharon refuses to let her."

Nick and Sharon's teen son, Noah, gets caught partying on today's episode, so they drag him home and ground him.

"Phyllis doesn't mind that Nick is in the middle of something and can't talk. She minds that Sharon gets bitchy: 'What part of no don't you understand?' She instigates a fight, which is easy. Phyllis basically tells her to kiss her a-."

Nick eventually calls Phyllis to tell her he isn't coming home because he and Sharon need to talk. His wife is not pleased. Phyllis' resentment of Sharon leads her to rewrite the Editor's Letter at the magazine where they all used to work, Restless Style. And it grows worse on Monday when Nick returns home angry at her for stirring up trouble in Sharon's marriage to Jack. "She says, 'Why are you so upset? Big deal.' It's vintage Phyllis. She justifies everything she does."

INTERVIEW: AMC's Eden Riegel
"I personally love the Internet. It’s a great way to get in touch with the young, hip viewers who are our target audience and at the same time we’ve got the interactive feature where people can actually tell us their circumstances like what kind of girl they are trying to impress and we can come up with a menu and some quick tips that will wow whomever they are trying to impress. We take it on a case-by- case basis and fans of the show can actually be involved and ask for suggestions from us."

A conversation with Rick Springfield
"I did an opening set for the Daytime Emmy Awards last year, and everyone really liked it. It was the first time I think that they had a real band on there. Before it had been, you know, soap-opera singers getting up and doing a solo. The head of daytime for ABC said, 'I want to get THAT guy on GENERAL HOSPITAL.' Because the character I play, Noah Drake, is completely different, he’s very reserved and I never wanted to sing as Noah Drake. Of course, they asked me to back in the ’80s, but I didn’t do that because it crossed the line too much for me. So recently they came to me and said, 'We want to bring on a second character who is a rock star.' I initially balked and said, 'Oh no that sounds a bit hokey.' But then I thought about the bands who are banging on these guy’s doors to get their new singles played on a daytime soap, and here I am given an opportunity to do it."

INTERVIEW: CORONATION STREET's William Roache
Tomorrow he will be meeting fans of the soap at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl where he will be revealing colourful tales of his time as Ken Barlow – and his own life off the Weatherfield cobbles. The actor, who looks remarkably younger than his 76 years, enjoys touring with "An Audience With William Roache."

"During the first half I talk about my life, because I’ve had a life before and alongside CORONATION STEET. The second half is all questions. I’ve done about 30 now and it’s really enjoyable. What you don’t have when you’re working in television is an audience’s reaction. You can say a funny line but there’s silence in the studio. You do a dramatic piece and get no reaction. So it’s wonderful to have the feel of the audience again."
