Brent Hartinger at AferElton writes: "A kiss is a just a kiss, or so says the classic song 'As Times Goes By.' But that’s never been true of a lip-lock between two men. On television at least, a simple gay kiss has typically been something far more than just a kiss — and has often been enough to cause huge media controversies and outraged calls for advertiser boycotts. But in 2006, after a smattering of notable gay TV kisses on television, AfterElton.com asked the question: Is a gay kiss finally just a kiss? Probably not just yet, we reluctantly concluded."
Emmy reaction from DAYS star Thaao Penghlis
Thaao Penghlis was so deep in meditation he almost missed the flood of congratulatory calls coming in for his Emmy nomination for work on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
After almost 30 years playing Tony DiMera, Sydney-born Penghlis has finally been recognised. Though usually nonplussed about Hollywood accolades and the other trappings of celebrity, the deeply spiritual Penghlis admits he's genuinely thrilled to be recognised for his work on the soap.
"I was not expecting anything, he says. "In fact, I was meditating and didn't hear the phone ringing with people calling to congratulate me. I've won awards before, but never an Emmy. The Emmy is one of those things, like the Oscar is to film -- it's the award for television. Even if I don't win, it will completely change the way that I'm described. In articles I'll now be Emmy-nominated or Emmy-winner Thaao Penghlis."
"I love my job, and I love my life here on the show. This place has become a second home and a second family. It would take something pretty astounding to get me to leave ALL MY CHILDREN. I do have a lot of energy; I've worked hard and come a long way. These opportunities (hosting the Emmys) come up, and I feel a little pressure to take advantage of them while I can."
Be-everywhere Mathison gets a 'Place' of his own
It may feel like Cameron Mathison is everywhere these days, but that's only because he is. The ALL MY CHILDREN star recently shook his groove thing on ABC's DANCING WITH THE STARS. He's guest-hosted THE VIEW, hosted SoapNet's I WANNA BE A SOAP STAR and Style's INSTANT BEAUTY PAGENT. He'll co-host the Daytime Emmys with Sherri Shepherd on June 20, and last, but certainly not least, he starts hosting TLC's new game show YOUR PLACE OR MINE? Sunday at 8.
With a soap opera, reality TV, game shows and awards shows all under his belt, the only thing left is his own talk show.
"That would be the ultimate goal," Mathison said. "A show, like a morning show or being part of a talk show team, would be the absolute. ... If I arrive there, then I'm chasing nothing else."
BLOG UPDATE: Tom Casiello
"Thursday (tomorrow) at 1 PM Eastern Standard Time, I'm pitching my prime-time show to Soapnet.
I wrote it with two partners I met at the ABC Writers' Development Program. And I kinda love it. It started as a Made-For-TV movie a few years ago, and at some point, morphed into a prime-time series. And I kinda think it's great. Any writer will tell you that sometimes, you write things you KNOW are mediocre. And other times, something takes over your body when you're typing, and you write something kinda monumental."
Albee, Ruehl and Bryggman Sculpt Nevelson in Occupant, Opening June 5
A portrait of the late, legendary artist Louise Nevelson is created by her longtime friend — Edward Albee — in the Signature Theatre Company's world premiere, Edward Albee's Occupant, starring former AS THE WORLD TURNS Emmy winner Larry Bryggman and Mercedes Ruehl, opening Off-Broadway June 5. EDITOR'S NOTE: I saw this show in previews last week and Reuhl and Bryggman were both outstanding.
DAYS and PASSIONS set designer prefers theater
Building sets for the Academy Awards, Van Halen tours and the Phantom of the Opera on stage is a really cool sounding job, right? For Dana Foreman of Sugar Pine, building graduation themes at their school is the coolest job of all. While he has worked on sets for TV shows, like DAYS OF OUR LIVES and PASSIONS, Foreman prefers theater. "I don't stay in TV too much ... Live theater is where it's at," Foreman said.

EASTENDERS actress calls for different roles
Cheryl Fergison, who plays Heather Trott in EASTENDERS, has reportedly called for writers and directors to pen more interesting roles for bigger women. In an interview with The Guardian, Cheryl said she owed her career to playing typical big women roles in period dramas but that she hoped new writing would allow bigger women to play more unusual roles.
"I hope people write other stuff for people like me," she said. "If directors have vision, then you can do anything. Hopefully new writing and new directors will not just see bigger women as 'the mother-in-law' or 'the friend'."
SPOILER PHOTOS: GUIDING LIGHT's Cassie and Cyrus
Cassie (Nicole Forester) saw something. And she would really, really, really like Cyrus (Murray Bartlett) to see it, too. What was it? Will he?
True to my SELF: I'm going to be on ALL MY CHILDREN!
"Yesterday I did something I've never done before, or at least not since high school: I acted! As an extra, on ALL MY CHILDREN. Okay, technically it shouldn't have been acting since I was playing myself, but I had lines, blocking and scenes with the principal actresses, at the beauty company they run, Fusion. It was a total blast, and different from morning TV or the live appearances I usually do.
Self's Entertainment director, Laura Brounstein, arranged for the SHOW'S actresses to test long-lasting lipsticks to determine which brands stand up best over the grueling 12 hour days in front of the camera, doing things like kissing and pouting, eating and sniping, bickering and dropping dramatic bombs to move the plot along. The winners, according to stars Alicia Minshew and Reecca Budig, are Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Just So ($6) and Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 in Air Kiss ($14). Minshew liked the first, Budig the second. While I met Budig and got photographed with her backstage, it was Minshew I did the scenes with ... And I am happy to report we are now besties."
BLOG UPDATE: Sara A. Bibel
"On daytime, summer is traditionally Teen Season. In an attempt to attract young viewers while school is out, teenage characters are given front-burner storylines. When I was young, they often featured green actors in some variation of a Romeo & Juliet story of forbidden love."
BLOG UPDATE: Lynn Liccardo
"In 1981, daytime soaps began a transformation that over the past twenty-five years has profoundly changed the genre. At first glance, the process was set in motion by the wedding of GENERAL HOSPITAL's Luke and Laura. But the real story began back in 1978 when GENERAL HOSPITAL was on the verge of cancellation."
